People.com: Melissa speaks - on Vanessa Hudgens, Chris Weitz, Leah Clearwater, and more.
“I’m not sure about [final] casting but I had heard Vanessa Hudgens was going up for the part of Leah [Clearwater, a werewolf],” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who wrote both films, explained to PEOPLE at the 61st Annual Directors Guild of America Awards in Los Angeles Saturday night. “But at the moment, the part of Leah doesn’t happen until the third movie.”Rosenberg also offered a few other insider tidbits about the progress of New Moon. “Well, you know Taylor Lautner will be back as Jacob Black. I can tell you the original cast will all be coming back. They’re on set right now, in Vancouver! They’re all up there prepping the movie to start shooting very soon.”
As for other changes in the next installment, Rosenberg said she expected new director Chris Weitz – who replaced the first film’s director, Catherine Hardwicke – to put his expertise and imprint on the second film.
“Chris Weitz directed The Golden Compass, which was a beautiful-looking film,” Rosenberg said. “And I think it’s wonderful we have someone who has worked with CGI animals … that will be a big part of New Moon. I’m delighted we have someone who’s so expert at that.”

Alright, I’m calm now. It sounds like the crew is preparing for shooting. I am glad to know Chris has CGI experience, it will be much needed in New Moon. What do you think of the tidbits Melissa shared?

I think we are all going to be surprised on the result of New Moon. Cahterine was awesome into putting together Twilight, but Chris is an expert in CGI. I hope each sequel will be better than the one before.
As for the cast being in Vancouver, I thought they were suppose to be start shotting in March…another month away.
Well Ashley and Kellan did say that they read the script and that it’s amazing and that they think we(the fans) will be happy with it. Ashley said that the movie is alot like the book which is good. The entire cast hasnt seen the script yet..only the ones who’s scripts are finished.

Everyone keeps saying Leah will not be in NEW MOON ?! BUT HER DAD DIES ??? DO YOU THINK THEY WILL HAVE THAT IN THE MOVIE OR NOT WERE CHARILE GO TO THE FUNERAL?
They are gonna keep the script hush hush all for the suprises at the end: I think its better that way I would rather see it come to life rather then read the script or know about it: as far as Vanessa playin Leah I really can picture it she’s a HSM teeny bopper that sings and dances I cant picture her as a wolf with a nasty attitude if they go as far as making BD can you see Vanessa as Leah yelling at Bella while pregnant about Jacob cause I sure cant see it at all: I tried to see it all different ways with the way Leah reacts with things and using Vanessa for that role would be a mistake why use her just to replace her its a waste of production funds!
I hope that Vanessa Hudgens is not in any of the movies.ALL HSM PEOPLE NEED TO STAY OUT OF ANY OF THE TWILIGHT MOVIES! I don’t need to deal with flipping 8yr. olds in the movie theater also. I think casting Freida Pinto (from Slumdog Millionaire) would be good,but not sure if she would look to old for the part. And I think it is important of who they are casting as characters because it influences how the book is portrayed in the movie and received by the audience.
aactually ally, im pretty sure its the cast. she just mentioned the cast before she said that. it was a subject. and i THINK shes the screenwriter, not you.
Vanessa who….egads not to mention Leah’s role is latter on unless they take artistic license.

Oh great….. I thought we all got over the stupid Vannessa Hudgens rumour that had us all panicing. Why do they have to do this to us??? I’m already P.O’d about the Dakota Fanning thing and that started straight after the stupid Vannessa Hudgens thing. And now it’s back….. Whoop-dee-do.
…I DON’T CARE ABOUT VANESSA!!!! Gah, I thought we had established that 1) Leah wasn’t going to be in New Moon, so why cast her?? and 2) Vanessa said she wasn’t trying out…
