The “Twilight Over Portland” fan convention planned for this upcoming weekend has been canceled. The event was scheduled for August 28-30 and was set to feature several actors from the hit movie Twilight, which was filmed in the Portland area last year. However, organizers from the fan site TalkingTwilight.com have canceled the event at the last minute.
Actor Gil Birmingham was among the cast members set to appear at the event. He posted on his Twitter account, “It was cancelled due to the investor backing out. Money issue.” He also called the cancellation a “bummer.”
In a statement to the Examiner, Elissa Cotton, founder of TalkingTwilight.com, said, “Due to circumstances beyond our control the event has been rescheduled to March.”
However, fans of Twilight still have an opportunity to meet with one of the movie’s stars this weekend. Actor Peter Facinelli, who plays vampire Carlisle Cullen in the Twilight Saga movies, will appear at the Jantzen Beach SuperCenter on Saturday, August 29 at noon. He will hold an autograph and photo session with fans, with sales benefiting Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. The canceled “Twilight Over Portland” convention would have also benefited Doernbecher.
