ROB PATTINSON DALLAS CBS 11 INTERVIEW

Posted November 11th, 2008 By: 20 Comments »

I’m not sure if I understand this correctly but it looks like Hot Topic deliberately told fans the event was canceled so they would go away.
It was a diversion and Rob Pattinson later showed up for the appearance. I could be wrong, but that’s what I’m getting out of the video.

If (as it seems) they went ahead with the San Francisco appearance, Hot Topic should be ashamed of themselves for letting this happen.
Fans traveled from as far as Hawaii for this event and they got screwed over. Fans got hurt. They underestimated the popularity and draw of Twilight and look what happened. At the very least they owe fans a huge butt kissing apology.

How dare you herd them off like cattle so later you could make money off the fans you deem worthy to be there when Rob shows up?!?!

Shame on you!

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame Rob at all. I blame the short sighted boobs who planned this.

Not only did the event occur after being ‘canceled’, but this news crew is completely unprofessional about the entire situation and clearly has no idea what Twilight is. I believe, if I was hearing correctly, they even pronounce his name as Pattison a couple of times. Talk about not researching your stories! I found the entire situation to be infuriating. “I really shouldn’t be saying this.”
“We won’t put that part in.”

Whew! That was a close one. They almost let the cat out of the bag!

  • Rachael

OMG!!! Did Rob cut his hair??????

I am so glad I didn’t go to that appearence. I was going to miss school to go because my dad was going to take me. If my teacher hadnt planned a quiz, I would have gone. That was close. I’m really REALLY glad I didn’t go.

  • Tippy

Ok, if that’s true, that completely sucks. I know that everytime I go into a Hot Topic I am treated like crap. I’ve even had an employee insult Twilight to my face, while I was spending money on Twilight products. It’s really disheartening. I love the T-shirts they have at HT, bu if they’re going to treat fans so poorly, I don’t think ANY of us should go there any more. You can find awesome Twilight shirts on the web (TA has a couple!) and I know Borders carries some, as well. And Borders seems to actually appreciate us fans. I’ve never been treated with disdain at a Borders, the way I have at Hot Topic.
If this story gets around, Hot Topic could find themselves in a world of hurt. You don’t hack off the Twilighters and you don’t treat us like worthless chattle, either.

Let me just tell you that today was a HORRIBLE day. Hot topic held the most un-organized, unfair event in history…okay that’s me being dramatic, but I cannot believe what happened today. My friend and I arrived at the Galleria for the Dallas appearance at midnight to line up to get a wrist band for Rob’s appearance. We thought that surely five and a half hours was enough time to be there to ensure we got in.

Not only did I stand in the cold freezing rain for 5 1/2 hours, but I did not get a bracelet b/c we were not allowed on the property, the police were threatining everyone that we would be arrested if we ran. When I showed up only 30 people were there and I knew I would get a chance. Not only did they not let us form an informal line, but the people who ran the event caused more caous than needed. To make a long long long story short, this event was unprofessional, unorganized and extremly disappointing. They let the first 250 ppl buy two wrist bands, which hardly seems fair when it could’ve been 500.

What a horrible horrible day. I can’t believe that people who arrived at 5 am got in before fans that had been waiting in the rain. In the future I hope they will organize this a little better. Whatever lives not fair, but this puts an extremly bad taste in my mouth. What a shame!

I was at the San Francisco event. When they said it was cancelled, my friends and I left, and we were in the position to be in the 500. But because they lied, we weren’t.

Poor Rob looks really tired in this interview. I can’t believe that he, and Kristen too for that matter, are still being asked the same questions that were being asked months ago. He must be absolutely sick to the back teeth of still having to answer questions like “did he read the book before he made the movie” and about his onscreen chemistry with Kristen. People need to be a little more original with their questions by now.

  • Gabby

That is EXACTLY what happened. The police along with a SPOKESPERSON from Hot Topic announced that the event with Rob was canceled so that people would go away. I went PERSONALLY and talked to the HT rep and she said there was not possible way in hell that it was going to happen and that “for the love of all things twilight” everyone should just go home. So I did (I live an hour away in Concord.) Then after hearing ROB announce on TV several hours later that it was still happening, my mom and I jumped in the car and went back only to find a line of 500 people with wristbands that entitled them to meet Rob and get his autograph. I confronted the rep and she said that I should have stayed like everyone else and that she couldn’t get me in. In the end, I only got a small glimpse of him as he left. I am furious with Hot Topic and I will NEVER shop there again. They are deceitful and greedy. The worst part is that I would have met Rob if things had gone the way they were supposed to…I was 20th in line.

I was at the San Fransisco one and showed up at around 4 and there was already a good amount of people there and 1 security guard. Everyone was in a line and all of a sudden everyone clumped together to try to hear what he was saying. Then like 15 min later everyone started running towards the mall doors and ended up all being squished up in the part by the doors. It was poorly planned out AND organized. ALL the blame is on hot topic for not anticipating a bigger crowd i mean come on judging by how many calls they probably got AND how much twilight merchandise they were selling they should know that twilight is a huge deal. There was NO hot topic workers there to even organize the crowd or have people line up and that why it go so crazy. Also to lie to everyone to crush everyone and tell them he wasn’t going to come JUST to get everyone to leave is so LOW! They had to lie because it was their dumb faults for not planning ahead yeah that seems fair to me NOT! I think it is totally ridiculous the way they handled things and then to go ahead and have it anyways and allow lucky people that just so happened to be there the chance to meet him is totally unfair i think HOT TOPIC is seriously the worst store ever and has made the twilight image worse.

I do feel bad for the folks that traveled there, waited in line and were turned away. That is seriously a bad move on Hot Topic – it’s strange how they commited to host these celebrity appearance events, but they had no idea had to handle it. Like, what rock are they living under? They didn’t realize that 1000 screaming girls weren’t going to flood the room in anticipation for Rob’s arrival? C’mon Hot Topic!?

exactly. I think i might have been near you. I got there at 3:15am and stood in the freezing pouring rain as well. When i arrived there were not many people there so naturally i thought i would get in. I also heard the police threaten to arrest people that ran. I assumed that they were going to take 10 people from each line (alternating lines) across the street and into the holding area (or safe zone maybe?}, or that that would be the common sense thing to do. But no all hell broke loose and i didn’t run because i was following the rules and i was expecting the officers to at least pull the people that were running to the back of the line. It was truly mishandled. I did however call Hot Topic’s corporate office and talk to the person in charge of operations and we had a nice long talk. I called her after the Q&A also because you couldn’t hear anything because the microphones were turned down too low. I felt so bad for Rob, i really did. The dumb blonde girl on stage just keep asking him questions like people were really going to hear his answers. It was utterly ridiculous. Had i known it was going to be handled so unprofessionally i wouldn’t have drove from Houston to go there.
    once more with feeling…..RIDICULOUS!@

  • Midori

I feel bad for all the people who were there & didn’t a chance to meet Rob. Of course, it was totally unorganized. Rob was on a SF news station in a interview and told them, it isn’t cancelled, it’s till going on. Hot Topic should of known what to expect with al the hype with Twilight. He must have some endurance to be all over the place with all the interviews. He’s doing an amazing job. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie at least twice…maybe more.

  • sara

Yes, i too was there. i was from san jose and spent the night in a hotel there JUST so i could get there at 3AM. i was 97th in line, it was “canceled” and we went home. I HAVE NEVER CRIED SO HARD IN MY LIFE when i heard the news that i wasn’t canceled. WE WERE AL SO CLOSE! i cant believe they didnt have it organized better. The spokesperson from Hot Topic deliberately said it was canceled only so we would all leave! i agree that it was very low.
*** WHOEVER tried SO HARD to get in and got their early AKA THE DIE HARD FANS, WRITE TO HOT TOPIC and tell them how upset you are with them.**
i did :( most disappointing day of my life

  • MOAR Edward

I thought the whole incident at SF was unfortunate, esp for those who tried to be civil and orderly. Poor Rob must have been scared out of his wits…the 3000+ mob scene surely would’ve deterred any other celeb from even attending the event, but as a testament to Rob’s character, he made his appearance. I really give Rob SO much credit. I wish Twilighters would recognize that behaving in such a frenzied state and screaming at the top of their lungs is not what Rob or organizers want. No wonder Rob said he gets a panic attack before every event. :( I also agree that the CBS evening news was VERY unprofessional…the African-Am woman DID mispronounce Rob’s last name as PATTISON. I also didn’t appreciate how they dismissed Rob repeatedly saying, “Who is Rob Pattinson? Who is this guy? Who would’ve known? I had to call my daughter to find out.” Then to top it all off, the woman did her valley girl voice of, “Oh my gaaaaawd!” Errrr yeah, W.T.F.

  • Kytanna

The people at HT are a bunch of trolls. They think they are perfect b/c of the cool things they wear. (reminds me of high school) I’ve never gone to one before and I seriously dont believe I will go to one again. Im too old to have a teenager talk to me like im worthless b/c im not skinny and not young, lol.
Keep your chins up…I know this sucked for 99.9% of us Twilight fans, but good will come for us all. =)

    Kyt
ps: Amazon.com has t-shirts, jewelry, and other Twilight items available

  • Allie

They never told us it was canceled, but they may have announced that to everyone AFTER the bracelets were gone as there were lots of people that came right when the mall opened and of course the bracelets were sold out then.

We got there at 11pm the day before and camped out under a bridge in the rain to get bracelets. We were one of the first 500 out of 5000 people to get there…but it was rediculous and unorganized and one of the cops there (trying not to start a riot) started one by moving fans that had just gotten there in front of fans that had been waiting and then telling everyone they had equal oppertunity and letting the people staying at the hotel across the street go first.

    It was madness…

  • Alex:-)

I feel everyone’s pain and dissipointment. My friend is going to go to see Rob,Kristen and Rachelle at some place in Tornoto(i can’t go because im busy that day,but she is going to TRY to get me any autograph)and me and her are diehard fans, and if the cacel that, she is going to get soo pissed off!!

  • Kayla

I left at 4:30 am yesterday to go to the galleria with two friends. I was the only one that got in but I was able to get two tickets. One of my friends didn’t get to go in the end, which sucked. But the 5 hours of waiting was kind of worth it. :)

  • Yvonne

I feel for everyone that had a bad experience with the Hot Topic Tour. I had bad experience as well with other events. I took my daughter and her friend to the Houston event and I have to say they heeded all the warnings and rand a very organized smooth event. I took a vacation day and showed up at the Houston Galleria at 5:00 am and was greeted by Hot topic staff given a run down of the rules everyone was helpful and nice even security was friendly. Fans were allowed to spend the night in the parking garage with plenty of security. I was # 196 in line. At about 6:15 they opended the store and started taking in ten at a time to purchase the shirt and wrist bands. When we went back to the mall a few wrist bands were still being sold at around 3:30 pm (750 total for the Houston event) but by 5:00pm all were sold out. While my daughter and her friend were in line I went to the other side of the mall to get a spot for the Q&A. The event turned out pretty good with no major problems. I’m just sorry the other events didn’t go as well.

  • Laura

Well I couldn’t see the video b/c it says it’s no longer available. I’m guessing the ppl for HT got some bad feedback.

ITA w/everyone, though. The event at San Fran was really unorganized and it’s a shame that it had to take something like that for them to realize they need more security and have a better flow of things.

I’m sorry for those who couldn’t make it to see Rob. That day was just insane. Chicago sucked, too, b/c it wasn’t fair that they told people to come at 5am, and for those who actually LISTENED TO THE RULES, they got nothing. So unfair.

  • Simone

i went to this event, and stayed after they said it was canceled. So for all of you who were there, and left and showed up when it was too late, my only advise is this…. Stay! You never know what might happen in the end. I got to meet Rob P and get my signed poster. i don’t care that i had to stand for 18 hours, it was well worth it!
