Posted October 6th, 2008 By: 4 Comments »

MEDIABISTRO.COM has reported that Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie) will receive the New Hollywood Award. The winners will be celebrated at the Beverly Hilton on October 27th. They summarize his achievements and roles.

About Robert Pattinson: Robert Pattinson plays the role of Edward Cullen in Catherine Hardwicke’s film “Twilight,” due November 21 from Summit Entertainment and based on the international bestseller by Stephenie Meyer. Prior to “Twilight,” Pattinson joined the Harry Potter cast as Cedric Diggory, and appears in both “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” At 19, Pattinson began his professional career with a role in Uli Edel’s film “Sword of Xanten,” in which he starred alongside Sam West and Benno Furmann. Robert Pattinson got his start as a member of the Barnes Theatre Group, taking on the lead role in Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” as George Gibbs. He also played Lord Evelyn Oakleigh in Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes,” played Alec in “Tess of the D’Urbevilles” and starred as Malcom in “Macbeth” at the OSO Arts Centre.

I think Rob is a perfect choice for a young Hollywood award. He’s part of the next generation of actors coming out. What do you think? Is Rob right for this award?

I like Rob, really I do. I think he is a promising actor. But this award feels like a piece of fluff being thrown at him because of all the media attention he’s been getting. If he’s to be recognized and awarded for his work, I’d rather it was legitimate (i.e., the award he received not to long ago for–I think–”How To Be”). They are even reciting a list of old roles he’s done in theater, plus HP, Twilight and an older film he’s done. Where are his newest film roles?

Like I said, I like Rob. But I don’t understand this at all. It looks like a popularity contest award. I’d rather see him get something with some substance to it.
