Stephenie Meyer Updates on ‘Down A Dark Hall’

Posted April 19th, 2012 By: Evie 3 Comments »

Stephenie Meyer has once again taken to her website to update us the latest project that has come her way. Variety spilled the beans on the project a tad early, but Stephenie has gone ahead and announced that she’s going to be producing Down A Dark Hall into a movie. Read more from Stephenie below:

April 18, 2012

Hi all,

Just wanting to comment on the story Variety ran today. We weren’t going to announce this until more of the project had come together, but here goes! My production company, Fickle Fish, acquired the option to Lois Duncan’s novel Down a Dark Hall a while back. We’re developing this project with our good pals at Temple Hill Entertainment, who we are so excited to be working with again. Not too much information to share as yet, but even in this early stage, it is still very exciting. I grew up reading and loving Lois Duncan novels, and I can’t believe my good luck that I get to be involved with this project. Down a Dark Hall was my favorite of her novels (though it’s a very close race with Summer of Fear and Stranger with My Face) and it gave me some serious nightmares when I was nine. I will have more information on my Fickle Fish site for those interested when there is more to share. These things are very slow moving, though, so it will probably be a while.

In the meantime, shooting on The Host is going awesomely–and quickly. I can’t believe we’re almost done. Things are looking fairly extraordinary and I cannot wait to see what Andrew Niccol will do with all this amazing footage. However, I am not ready to be done because I am not ready to give up Saoirse, who I would happily adopt by force if I didn’t like her parents so much, and if she wasn’t legally an adult. (By the way, for those who have asked about pronunciation, Saoirse rhymes with “inertia.”)

More soonish,
Steph

Check out everything from Stephenie on her blog here.

Thanks Noor!

EW Visits the Set of “The Host’

Posted April 19th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

EW.com was one of the news outlets lucky enough to visit the set of The Host. Here they give us a little sneak peek of the experience they had, and promise that there is much more to come. Read more below:

An hour outside of Albuquerque, N.M., on the rocky edge of a small, picturesque canyon, Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) is squinting into the sun. She’s flanked by two sleek, silver sports cars, and her eyes are ringed with an eerie, iridescent circle. They’re both signs that Kruger is playing The Seeker — a dogged member of the police force of an alien species called Souls, who have successfully invaded our planet by literally invading our bodies. She’s looking for Wanderer (Hanna‘s Saoirse Ronan, pictured with costar Max Irons), a member of her race who, aptly, has wandered off into the desert after the consciousness of her human host, Melanie, cajoled Wanderer into finding what’s left of Melanie’s human family. The Seeker is also keenly set on finding this rag-tag cluster of the remains of humanity, but for very different reasons. “We find her,” Kruger (as The Seeker) mutters to herself, “we find the threat.”

Fans of Stephenie Meyer’s 600-plus-page novel have likely already gathered from the description above that film interpretation of The Seeker is almost the exact opposite of how she’s described in the book. Instead of small, dark-haired, and clad mostly in black, the very blonde Kruger stands regally on some serious wedge heels, dressed in a futuristic cream-colored pant suit. It’s a change designed by writer-director Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, In Time) to reflect the “purity” of the egalitarian Souls, and Meyer told me on the set that she happily embraced it. Gattaca is her favorite sci-fi film of all time.

Five Things to Know About Stephenie Meyer’s ‘The Host’ Film

Posted April 17th, 2012 By: Evie 2 Comments »

E! Online has put together a nice short little list of the top five things you need to know right now about the movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s The Host. Check them out below:

4. The Book’s as Big as Twilight: True, The Host has hardly garnered as much buzz as the Twilight juggernaut, but the novel itself is churning out equally impressive Twi-esque stats. It spent 26 weeks as No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list and also spent more than 36 weeks on the Los Angeles Times best-seller list. Forget Fifty Shades of Grey! Apparently The Host is the book to read. And lucky for you loyal S.M. fans, Ms. Meyer said she wants to turn the story into a trilogy. Shocker.

5. The Film’s Following in Twilight’s Footsteps: Turns out Baton Rouge has gotten a double dose of Stephenie Meyer—much of The Host’s filming took place where Breaking Dawn was first filmed. A few other on-set deets? Stephen Rider (who plays Seeker Reed in the flick) recently tweeted they have “all” read the book and said he sees Stephenie on set “almost every day.” Rider also dished that the “cast is stellar” and it’s “truly an amazing experience.” What? No Twilight-style drama? Oh well, at least there’s one more Breaking Dawn film to keep that goss coming.

Thanks Noor!

It’s almost like the early days of Twilight when MTV was the only outlet that was always on the set, talking to the actors. It makes me all nostalgic for the early days of the Twilight Saga movies!

First Trailer for Stephenie Meyer’s ‘The Host’ Debuts

Posted March 22nd, 2012 By: Evie 4 Comments »

The day has finally arrived for the brand new, first trailer for The Host. The Host of course is currently in production right now and we occasionally get updates from Stephenie Meyer herself. You’ll notice that the last segment of this trailer includes the winners of The Host trailer contest. Enjoy the trailer below!

Well I’ve been kind of anxious to see this trailer, I’m so curious as to how they’ll be handling all of the internal dialogue that takes place in the book between Melanie and Wanda. One thing is for sure, I’m loving what appears to be Saoirse Ronan’s voice for Melanie. It’s also absolutely brilliant how they incorporated the book cover with the first trailer.

What did you think of the first trailer for The Host? Did you like the incorporation with the book cover?
