STEPHENIE MEYER ANSWERS BURNING QUESTIONS ON OPRAH.COM

Posted November 13th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 8 Comments »

As you know, Stephenie Meyer was on the Oprah Winfrey show this afternoon to talk about the phenomenon that is Twilight. Well after her interview, Stephenie stopped to answer some burning questions for Oprah.com. Some of the questions Stephenie addresses are whether or not she thinks there will be a fifth Twilight Saga book, how things are going on the movie for her book The Host, how filming went for Eclipse, and much more. She even talks about Midnight Sun, so it’s definitely an interview to watch!

And if you missed her TV interview, you can read about it online at Oprah.com:

Before the night of the dream, Stephenie says she had lost herself a little in the work of motherhood. “I was really burned out. I really had gotten into that zombie mom way of doing things where I wasn’t Stephenie anymore,” she says. “[Writing Twilight] was a release. That was the dam bursting. I’d been bottling up who I was for so long, I needed an expression.”

Though she’d been married for 15 years, Stephenie says she didn’t tell her husband at first about her new passion. “My husband though I’d gone crazy. I’d barely spoken to him because I had all these things going on in my head, and I wasn’t telling him about this weird vampire obsession because I knew he’d freak out and think I’d lost my mind,” she says.

At first, Stephenie was documenting her dream only to make sure she would remember it, she says. “The dream was just something I was so interested in, and it was so different from what my everyday was at the time,” she says. “I just wanted to remember it so badly. That’s why I started writing it down—not because I thought this would be a great story for a novel.”

Wow, such a great interview! Stephenie looks amazing and the interview was so great to watch. I laughed out loud at the fact that her mom is on her about finishing Midnight Sun. Maybe someday *crosses fingers*! What did you think of this interview?

This interview was awesome. yea. However, the interview on oprah’s tv show was awful. I was very upset that oprah was given the honor(in my opinion) of having the only interview this year with Stephanie and only giving it less then half the show. She went on about what a big deal twilight is, and then spent a total of 20 minutes on it. We, as fans, lost out on hearing from our favorite author about new things, instead of spending the time on things we already know. What a waste of a great opportunity to talk to Stephanie. Big disappointment Oprah. boo.

I feel the same way, Lizzie! Most of us fans already knew 95% of what was talked about. She did not use her time wisely and should have devoted a whole show. So sad.

Lizzie: I completely agree. Almost everything Oprah mentioned as an introduction, and that she covered in the in person interview was old hat, very old hat for Twilight fans. To say Stephenie answered burning questions was a complete misnomer. I came away with the impression that because Oprah didn’t know, she thought we did not either. Except for Stephenie revealing she was in a zombie/burned out stage as a mother, I had heard everything multiple times. I don’t recall Oprah saying if she read more than the first book. I’m not sure if she even liked the book. Without question, Oprah has come a bit late to this game.

And for the build-up given to the phenomenon aka Twilight, yes, the entire show should have been given over to Stephenie. The segments with Robin Givens and the karaoke singers were nice, but could have been broad cast another day.

It was good to see Stephenie. I can understand that she needed to pull back a bit from the public craziness that has engulfed her life since this all began. I was glad to hear (in the interview above) a direct question concerning Midnight Sun. She continues to delay that committment and again that is understandable. I was happy to learn her mother supplies never-ending pressure on her to finish it. More than anything that gives me hope she will do just that. Yeah mom! More big hope here, once she does finish MS, hopefully mom will be instrumental in convincing Stephenie to write all the books from Edward’s POV. No question in my mind that project would be well received.

Never could stand Oprah. She’s a big pain in the a**, so self-rightious.

Let me say that even though I thought Oprah missed the boat on her opportunity with Stephenie, I still like her. I think as much as any public figure she puts her money where her mouth is.

I do see that she seems to be a bit…bored with her show. Understandably. She’s been doing it, twenty-five years? And, as she isn’t a true Twilight devotee, I understand she doesn’t see all matters Twilight as we do. Still, Oprah doesn’t live under a rock and with her opening statements, she knows this is not just another author.

Also, on her website, there is a Twilight quiz with twenty questions. I believe #10 has the wrong answer. Bella was forever biting her lip. Edward even worried about her hurting herself. Oprah’s site says Bella’s nervous habit was biting her fingernails. When?

I haven’t had the chance the watch the entire interview, but from what I have watched, however, I agree with you all. I can’t say I’m an Oprah fan, but I don’t dislike her either. I know she does great work and she’s one of the more intelligent people in the industry, but from the half of the interview that I managed to watch so far, I found the interview a bit stoic. When I saw that there were other guests on this episode, I was shockedly confused, I had no doubts that the entire show would be dedicated to Stephenie. And yes, I did not get the impression that Oprah thought Twilight was something extraordinarily special. I saw no excitement from her. Her questions were for beginners. I know it said that this interview would cater not just to Twilight fans, but she could have had a better mix of questions.

On a positive note, Stephenie was always graciously beautiful, and still crossing fingers for a mothers’ nagging influence :) .

That interview is what we should have seen on oprah!
Love The Host, so glad to hear about sequels and of course the movie!
    Go Stepanie!

I just finish watching the Oprah episode with SM and I was truly upset with that interview. I know everyone has heard SM tell this story so many times about how all this came about. Oprah’s staff should have been on their A game and that interview should have been for the entire show to ask more questions about SM and her future projects. Oprah really knows how to hype up her shows as a must see interview. What I don’t understand is why did they ask her the better questions after the show. That would have been muct more interesting to watch since these were actually the burning questions we all want to know.
