STEPHENIE SATURDAY: ‘BREAKING DAWN’ – WHAT’S WITH ‘SHAPESHIFTERS’?

Posted July 25th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 1 Comment »

Hello and welcome to another edition of Stephenie Saturday! For this week’s Q&A highlight, we explore a topic that had many Twilight fans scratching their heads over after they finished Breaking Dawn. Even now, people still wonder: “what’s with the Quileutes? Are they werewolves? Shapeshifters? What’s the difference, anyway?” Well, there’s no better person to turn to than the author herself, Stephenie Meyer.

So for this week’s edition of Stephenie Saturday, TA Staffer Valerie brings us the answer to the following question: What’s the deal with “shapeshifters”?

Well, I think they are shapeshifters since Stephenie said so :) If “real” werewolves exist in the Twilight universe, then the Quileutes can not be werewolves. Like SM’s answer says, there is reference to werewolves in Eclipse when Edward is talking about set to Victoria. It is also explained in Breaking Dawn near the end that it just happened to be a wolf when the first transformation occurred and that it could have just as easily been another animal.
