It’s time for another edition of Stephenie Saturday and this week we’re back with the “Stephenie’s Playlists” feature! For this week’s playlist highlight, TA Staffer Rebecca brings us a video for the song “Creep” by Radiohead, which Stephenie Meyer put on her Twilight playlist. In addition to the video, Rebecca gives us a little background information on the band, their music, and how they fit into the Twilight universe. As always with Stephenie Saturday, we’ve added some questions for consideration for you to think about and respond to. (Warning: the song contains some mature language)
Questions:- Do you like this song? Do you think it fits Twilight?
- Why do you think Stephenie included âCreepâ to her playlist?
- Are you a fan of Radiohead? If so, were you a fan before Stephenie included them on her playlist for Twilight, or did you become one after?
- What is your favourite Radiohead song?About Radiohead:
Radiohead was formed in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England, UK in 1985. At this time they were under the name âOn A Fridayâ, the name referring to the band’s usual rehearsal day in the school’s music room. The five members met while attending Abingdon School, a boys-only public school in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Jonny Greenwood originally joined as a keyboard player but he soon became the lead guitarist.
In 1987 the members left Abingdon School and moved onto University, but they still continued to rehearse at weekends and holidays. In 1991 all the members except Jonny Greenwood had completed University they reformed âOn A Fridayâ they began recording demos and doing live gigs around Oxford. Oxfordshire at that time had a active Indie scene and âOn A Fridayâ were never seen as fitting this trend, commenting that they had missed it by the time they returned from university.
In late 1991 Radiohead was signed a six-album contract with EMI representative. Also âOn A Fridayâ changed their name to âRadiohead at the request of EMI.In 1992 the band released their first single âCreepâ but it wasnât successful until a year later in 1993 when they released their first album Pablo Honey. Radiohead’s popularity rose in the United Kingdom with the release of their second album, The Bends (1995).
Radiohead began their first United States tour in early 1993, the music video for “Creep” was in heavy rotation on MTV. The song rose to number two on the US modern rock chart and then to number seven in the UK singles chart when re-released there later that year.
The song â15 Stepsâ by Radiohead from the album âIn Rainbowsâ (20087) appears in the Twilght (2009) movie but not on the Official Soundtrack. The song appears at the end of the movie as Victoria walks now the stairs at Prom and goes into the movieâs credits.

Stephanie has good taste! I totally get why this is on her playlist. This song is all about angst, self-doubt and longing for someone you feel you shouldn’t our couldn’t have. Edward could have written it about Bella, but then so could Bella. I’m reminded of the reunion scene in her bedroom when they get back from Italy in New Moon. She’s so held back by her insecurities Edward can’t quite convince her how much he loves her and wants to be with her. They both think each other is perfect and have their own insecurities that threaten their relationship.
I was really listening carefully and getting into and appreciating some of the words that I felt referenced the mood of the series, but then I was immediately turned off by the F-bomb in one of the verses. I wasn’t just imagining that was I?
I absolutely love this song!!! When I first read Twilight in 2005 I heard this song on the radio and immediately thought that’s so Bella hahaha The song is amazing because is something everyone can relate to.
This song is perfect for any of the Twilight movies.Edward is always trying to convince Bella how much he loves her. I loved it,and the video too.Hope they put this in New Moon.
I love it!!! I have always like Radiohead, and I love this song even more cause my hubby always sings it on Rockband lol. I think its perfect to add to the twilight saga.
I love Radiohead, Creep is a great choice, however that being said some of the younger fans of Twilight may not appreciate the language. This is what makes it difficult when the fans are spread over generations and are not just tweens.
I hate to see the music compromised then the soundtrack is reduce to what you find on a Disney film. Music adds so much to a film and these next movies in the Twilight Saga should have an edge to them and not be PG13.
I have a suggestion for a song when Bella get to Italy and sees Edward ready to walk out into the sunlight… More than Words by Extreme!
