STEPHENIE SATURDAY: STEPHENIE’S PLAYLISTS – ‘IN MY PLACE’
Happy Stephenie Saturday! We’re back again this week with another edition of “Stephenie’s Playlist” and we’ve got a great song for you. For this week’s playlist highlight, TA Staffer Rebecca brings us a video for the song “In My Place” by Coldplay, which can be found on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight playlist. In addition to the video, Rebecca gives us a little background information on the band, their music, and how they fit into the Twilight universe.
About ColdplayColdplay were formed in London, England, UK in 1998. The members of the band met University College London (UCL) in September 1996. Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland were the first two members, followed by Guy Berryman in 1997. During this time the bands name was Starfish. The band’s lineup was complete when Will Champion joined the band to take up percussion duties. Tim Crompton, a local student who had been using the name for his group, suggested the name Coldplay. To this day Coldplay have sold over 50 million albums.
Coldplay rose to fame with the release of their single “Yellow”, followed by their debut album, Parachutes (2000), which was nominated for a Mercury Prize. The follow up album A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) also won may awards including NME (New Musical Express)’s Album of the Year. The bands next album X & Y (2005) had a positive reception but not as enthusiastic as the previous albums. The band’s fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), was released to largely favourable reviews, earning several Grammy nominations and wins.
Coldplay are also active supporter of various social and political causes, such as Oxfam’s Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group have also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Coldplay have been nominated 118 times for various different awards and have won 43 awards. Some of these awards include: seven Grammy Awards, 6 Brit Awards, 5 NME Awards and 4 MTV Video Music Awards.
