STEPHENIE SATURDAY: STEPHENIE’S PLAYLISTS – ‘WHY DOES IT ALWAYS RAIN ON ME?’

Posted June 20th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 8 Comments »

Sadly, all good things come to an end. Stephenie Saturdays has reached the end of the outtakes and extras that are featured on Stephenie Meyer’s official website (Outtakes and extras are only available for Twilight and New Moon, though we hope she will one day post some for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn!).

We will continue to bring you questions answered by Stephenie every other Saturday, and on alternating Saturdays, we are happy to bring you a fun new feature called Stephenie’s Playlists. We will share a video for each song on Stephenie’s extensive playlist, discuss the artists, their music and how they fit into the Twilight universe.

For the very first edition of Stephenie’s Playlists, TAers Claire and Rebecca bring us the song ‘Why Does it Always Rain on Me?” by Travis, a little about the band, and of course some questions for consideration. So without further ado, here is your very first edition of Stephenie’s Playlists:

Why Does it Always Rain on Me? - Travis

Questions:

- Do you like this song? Do you think it fits Twilight?
- Why do you think Stephenie added Why Does it Always Rain on me to her playlist?
- What did you think of this video?
- Had you heard of Travis before reading Stephenie’s playlist? What other Travis songs do you know?

About Travis

Travis was formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1990 and was initially called Running Red and later Glass Onion. When Dougie Payne joined the band he had not played a bass guitar before and completed a two week crash course in his bedroom. Travis’s first album ‘Feeling Good’ sold just 40,000 copies. Following the release, the band toured extensively; this improved their reputation and they are now well-known for their live performances.

Travis have twice been awarded British album of the year at the annual BRIT Awards, and are often credited with having paved the way for bands such as Coldplay, Keane and Snow Patrol. Travis performed at Live 8 London concert and in 2001 their song “Sing” was the most played on British radio that summer.

Band Members:

- Fran Healy – Lead vocals, guitar, piano, banjo
- Dougie Payne – Bass guitar, backing vocals

i honestly think it absolutely fits twilight :)

I think it fits twilight pretty well and it was a great choice. For the other parts of the saga I think this song discribes Jacob pretty well.
    Pieces by Rascal Flatts

i think it fits new moon ,it’s slow and it’s seems to describe parts of the book[basically jacob's life]…

  • darlenecullen

I’m not sure about this one.But I do think the perfect song for Jacob is ‘KINGS OF LEON’ “USE SOMEBODY” That song makes my heart break, thinking of it with Jacob.

  • CharleyCullen

I think the lyrics are great for New Moon, for either Jake or Bella however I think the song is a bit too upbeat for New Moon, it’s not very depressing as I imagine New Moon should be. Maybe it’s just me, do some people think this is slow enough for New Moon?

  • Melissa

I adore this song. When I first found Stephenie’s playlists, I picked about 15 songs that I felt fit and bought them from i-Tunes. This one should be on a Saga soundtrack somewhere. The video is a little odd, but it’s fun. And no…never heard of Travis before this. Have heard some other songs of theirs, but never would have paid them any attention without Stephenie’s playlists.

I think it fits New Moon as one of the songs for the soundtrack. I also think Kelly Clarkson’s song “Haunted” fits for when Edward leaves Bella, also… Nickleback’s song “Far away” for when Edward comes back and vows to never leave Bella again. “Why does it always rain on me” is a really good fit expecially for Jacob. Oh also… I think a song from the Twilight soundtrack “Almost Lover” the lyrics in that song fit New Moon and is perfect for Bella.
I am really excited for the soundtrack, I think it would be really good if they don’t have such renowned artists in the soundtrack, because the Twilight books are one of a kind, they’re individual it would fit really well if they have “one of a kind” songs.

  • Chris

I’ll listen to the song but not watch the video. Depeche Mode (one of my all time fav’s) ruined a song for me with a video so no more!

    Love the Brit bands!! =)
