STEPHENIE SATURDAY: ‘NEW MOON’ OUTTAKE – ‘SCHOLARSHIP’

Posted May 9th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 5 Comments »

It’s time for Stephenie Saturday again, and this week, TA Staffer Claire is bringing us an awesome outtake titled “Scholarship”. This outtake is from New Moon and according to Stephenie, it was the largest portion of the initial draft that was removed before publishing. If you’d like to compare the original to the finished version, this outtake made up the majority of the sixth chapter in New Moon, which was originally titled “Statement”. As always, at the end of the outtake we’ve included some thought provoking questions for you to consider and respond to once you’re through reading.

Ha. I think it should have been in there. The More Bella the more Edward.!!!!!! JK/

    I enjoyed this outtake.

This is actually my favorite outtake from any of the books.

I enjoyed reading the ‘scholarship’ outtake but I don’t think it would have worked in the book. Edward would have known that Bella would have never believed she was awarded such a “bizarre, persistent” scholarship. Edward promised her that it will be like “I never existed.” He could not keep that promise and have someone send her money every month. Bella is too realistic to have fallen for this.

It definitely should have been included in the book. Though I agree with the comment above, it’d have been a way of showing Bella that Edward still cared about her. Because we knew it full well, but she didn’t. And Edward may be a vampire but he’s still a man, and men make mistakes, especially because of love. It would have proved that Edward was not perfect and that his leaving also caused him pain. Maybe if you want to believe that Edward would have known better about Bella and the scholarship, then you could also consider that he did it on purpose, to let her know that he is around and he’ll always be.
