STEPHENIE SATURDAY: ‘TWILIGHT’ – WHAT’S WITH THE APPLE?

Posted May 16th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 4 Comments »

For this week’s edition of Stephenie Saturday, TA Staffer Claire brings us the answer to a much wondered about topic in Twilight – what’s with the apple?! Yes, the apple is cool and makes for a great and very visually appealing cover, but what does it mean? Is there some symbolism behind it?

Some of you over-achievers may know the answer to this one already, so we’ve added some questions for consideration at the end for you to respond to. So without further delay, we bring you the answer to the question, “What’s with the apple?”

well… the apple is in pale hands on the front cover.
Its when (in the book and movie) Bella is collecting pieces of fruit and veg to make a salad in the canteen. Bella drops the brillant red apple and in a flash Mr Edward Cullen has it rolling off the tip of his shoes and into his hands (hence the front cover). The Bella invites him to La Push beach.

the apple is the forbidden love that represents edward for bella and I think viceversa represent the forbidden love that bella represents for edward mmmm taht’s my opinion iv always thought that it was that

back in the old days when Adam and Eve were around when they lived in the garden of eve, there was the forbidden fruit tree. the forbidden fruit tree consisted of the most delicious apples with the sweetest juice but they were forbidden. Adam took one because he couldn’t resist and him and Eve were kicked out..

that’s pretty simliar to what the Apple on the cover of the book means. The apple represents forbidden fruit. The pale hands holding it are edwards and the apple is supposed to be Bella. no matter how much he wants her he can’t have her. She’s his very own personal forbidden fruit.

on the cover of the second book is the flower. i’m not quite sure what it means other then its a very pretty white and blood-red iris i think.

the third book is the broken ribbon. the ribbon signifies bella’s choice between edward and jacob. she knows that when she makes her choice things wont be the same between her and the other person who she did not pick who is obviously jacob. her heart is split in two pieces with this insane love for these two completely different guys.

on the cover of the fourth book is the two chess pieces. the little red chess piece farther behind the queen represents poor puny little human bella who always got hurt and was so little compared to everything else in the world. the big white dominant queen in the front of the cover represents bella after she turns vampire and she can’t be hurt anymore. the red pawn means shes human with the color of blood still in her veins. the white queen means she no longer has any blood and is truly a different creature.

    hope this helps.

The apple represents the forbiddin fruit. I agree with Marissa all the way. Describing the other books too was really a kool insight. espcially for the last book. i dont think i would have figured that out. lolz
