Twilight Outtake: ‘Emmett and the Bear’:

“I was surprised to find a strange kinship growing between Emmett and myself, especially since he had once been the most frightening to me of all. It had to do with how we had both been chosen to join the family; we’d both been loved – and loved in return – while we were human, though very briefly for him. Only Emmett remembered – he alone really understood the miracle that Edward remained to me.”

    oh yeah, definitely. we mostly heard short things from emmett which didn’t reveal the deeper parts of his personality. i could do with all the books being elaborated on. i loved all of the outtakes.

    i wish that she had kept it in the book. you can’t ever have to much emmet. i think the book could have used some more of him.

    Love how Esme’s mothering was also featured and the teasing between the two. Edwards mentions Emmett as his favorite brother and the banter was perfect.

    i wish it had been in the book… it really highlights emmetts’s and edwards’s brotherly relationship and Esme’s motherly ways. And it was good to have a deeper, more detailed insight into emmetts personality.

    Well, since it’s a fait accompli, I’m fine with it not having been in the book just so I can enjoy getting a little more Twilight book when I thought I’d already read all there was! :) And it’s great, fun to see Edward and Emmett playing like that, and hearing more from Emmett.

    I dont knowwhat to think about this outake it definetly reveals a diferent side of emmett who happens to be one of my favorite characters. If Stephenie does publish Midnight Sun I hope there is more indepth views of all the cullens especially emmett.

    I think that this short piece, pulls the relationship between Emmett and Bella together for the rest of the story. Being honest I didn’t get this connection my first time through the series, but as I began to analyze character traits with my students, one of them mentioned suddenly in class one day. Holy cow, Emmett was chosen too. With the one exclamation the blocks began to sort together like a very profitable game of Tetris for all of us. And answered the question on the table of “Why Emmett liked Bella?”

    I always wanted to know more about Emmett too, Jasper and Alice got to tell their stories, Rosalie and Carlisle too. But Emmett and Esme are still mysteries. I really would love more back story on both of them. This reveals Emmett’s Big ol’ teddy bear side which I love about him anyway but also a soft side to Rosalie. I love to hear the playful brother in Edward too. Mal, I too hope and pray for Midnight Sun to come to fruition.

    I liked it a lot. I remember emmet and bella having a kinda…close relationship-but it seemed undetailed. I wish this was in the book. I like how bella can relate to emmet. and emmet’s interpertation of the process of becomming a vampire is really unique. Im glad Ms. Myers combined religion with the process. Most of all i really do like that emmet get what its like. Bella doesnt really have that close of a connection with edwards siblings besides alice.

    Fantastic. Too bad it wasn’t in the book. One of the reasons I love Midnight Sun so much is that you get so much more perspective from the rest of the Cullens that you don’t get through Twilight. Don’t get me wrong it’s all perfection any way you slice it!!!

    I think I saw a picture of emmett havin some make-up and stuff done and it looked like his shirt was all ripped to shreds. I don’t know if it was from Twilight, but I’ll keep looking and post it up for everyone if I find it.

    it definitely should have been kept in the book. little of emmett’s past is revealed in twilight and this would have given great insight to you.

    Why oh why, take those parts out? Those are the parts I love! The small funny parts that make the book for me! Emmett was the character that I wished was elaborated upon and here we have GREAT meterial! Sheesh!

    I always thought Emmett was the most ignored of the Cullen family in terms of book time. I would have liked to seen more of his backstory somewhere in the books. It seems like they were able to fit that in for almost everyone except he and Esme (to a lesser extent).

    im sad that Stephenie didn’t put this in the book. everybody else in the cullen family got to tell their story but not emmett. that sucks cuz he has a good story too :/

    I LOVED IT!! They should have left it in , I loved Emmett before, but now I feel more into his feelings on being changed, well SAVED and finding his “angel” in Rosalie! I also have always felt Emmett and Bella had some kind of connection, and this says why. thanks 4 the outtake

    That was very enlightening! I wish it had stayed as well – Emmett is a perfect brother figure and his story is so different than everyone elses. Perfection once again….

    it really goes into the emotion of the story, below all emmets joking and blase attitude, thers a caring being, and this passage really highlights that.

    i think that deffinatly should have been kept in, i love it. It gives us more of a feel on emmett and bellas relationship and makes us realize a bit about him.

    I’ve read all the outtakes for Twilight and out of all of them i wish this one was not edited out. It a good showcase of many thing that are important to Cullen family’s and Bella’s character. It shows the building of a friendship between Emmett and Bella, the brotherly bond between Emmett and Edward, and how motherly Esme is. It would have been such a great insight to the Cullen family early on in the story.

    As humorous as Emmett is throughout the books when speaking at lightning speed, I was thrilled to hear more of his story! Stephenie is still writing and who knows, maybe she will satiate our hunger for more back stories once she decides what to do with Edward’s side (MS). I cannot wait to see how it plays out!

    I think this should have been kept in the book, it shows more about Emmet and its nice to see his point of view.

    i would have wished they would have keeped emmett’s story in the book because as the saga goes on everyone tells a lil bit about the past they remenber and we dont get to hear about emmett as much only that he was found half dead by rosealine and you can tell that the relationship between bella and emmett are the brother and sister type straight from the beginning

    I loved all of the out takes and extras that were posted on Stephenie’s website. I don’t know why her editor thought she should remove some of these. Most of them explain alot of the pieces that were missing.

    I think that should have been kept in. I agree with the fact that I wish there was more about the cullens in the books. I hope that she continues to write midnight sun and I think it would be a good idea to write all the books in edwards point of view. I would buy and read all of them again. Its almost like a different story from his point of view.

    I was definitely was bummed and a little bothered because of that. In the movie your not presented with how the relation grows, or even grows at all. It lacked the depth, the passion between the characters, alot of important stuff was left out. Therefore,diffentely not enough insight into Emmet’s brotherly relation with Bella.

    I LOVE this outtake & all the ones that Stephenie has on her website. They’re so great & fun! I’ve always loved Emmett’s character & this helped explain his relationship w/Edward & Bella more it was just so cool to read! I wish it had been included in the book. Oh well. At least we have it now.

    I agree Heather I would love to read all of the Books from Edward’s pov, I think it would just be cool!

    I wish she would have kept it in…It would have given Emmett’s character more dept. And I love how motherly Esme sounds at the end and hoe Edward and Emmett really seem more like brothers.

    I think it should’ve been in the book only to give more insight on Emmett’s background, although I pretty much gathered from the bits in Twilight that Emmett took a liking to Bella right from the start. So to have their relationship not go into detail didn’t matter to me as much. I definitely enjoyed hearing his story and wouldn’t have minded it being in the book.

    I really wish it could have been in Twilight. Throughout the other books Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, Bella and Emmett really have this easy relationship like brother and sister. He is always teasing her and making jokes. Also, you get to see his relationship with Edward and see why they really have that brotherly connection. Also, in Midnight Sun you learn more about Emmett and the close bond that he and Edward share which is kind of lacking throughout the series. Emmett is the one that keeps the family laughing and you really love that about him. At times its hard to understand why he loves Rose and you see how devoted she was to him from the start.

    I’m thrilled that these outtakes are available for us to read & hope that more are shared, if any more exist.

    it’s like any “extra” tidbits, it gives insight on the whole story, for example, ever read any of the “extras” on Lord of the Rings? There is sooo much more to a story when an author does an extended version.

    Something just occurred to me as I read it, though. Isn’t it a little inconsistent? It definitely should not be incomprehensible to Rosalie that Edward falls for a human – it had already happened to her!

    WOW!!! that was great i wish she would of writen more about alice and esme. that would be great to learn more about alice and esme. please don’t ever stop writing that was great i loved when esme show her being motherly.!!!!

    omg that was so good! she should have kept this in the book, because
    that was so much enjoyable, and i like hearing from Emmett, even though
    he may be disrespectful towards god and his angels…but overall i loved it, Towards the end, it started to get very funny!!!

    I think my favorite part was Esme yelling “Boys!” at the end. It really shows that they are just a family and totally shows Bella and Emmett’s relationship. I really didn’t get it before.

    they shood’ve kept this in the story cause it brought in deeper meaning to why emmett became a cullen
