SUMMIT OFFICIALLY CONFIRMS ‘ECLIPSE’ MOVIE
We’d heard the rumors that ‘Eclipse’ would be officially confirmed soon, and now Summit Entertainment has done just that. So no more worrying, Twilighters, we’ve heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. Below is Summit’s press release for the ‘Eclipse’ movie:

Los Angeles, CA, February 22, 2009 — Summit Entertainment announced today that ECLIPSE, the third film in the TWILIGHT saga, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Melissa Rosenberg, who wrote the scripts for both TWILIGHT and NEW MOON, is currently writing the script for ECLIPSE and continues to consult with TWILIGHT book series author Stephenie Meyer. In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob – knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.
The action-packed, modern day vampire love story and blockbuster success of the first film in the series entitled TWILIGHT was released in theatres on November 21, 2008 grossing $69.6 million domestically during its first weekend. To date the film has grossed over $188 million domestically and over $362 million worldwide. The second installment of the film franchise, NEW MOON starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, will be released November 20, 2009.
I was so excited to hear from Deadline Hollywood that ‘Eclipse’ was confirmed, but it’s a huge relief just to hear it from Summit as well. After all the rumors going back and forth about ‘New Moon’ before it was confirmed, it’s nice to get this out of the way (officially) and not have to worry about if the movie will be made or not.
Does Summit’s press release make you anymore at ease about the movie, or were you pretty convinced when Deadline Hollywood had announced it? And Summit confirmed the release date also – now that that’s confirmed, are you worried or relieved?
