SUMMIT OFFICIALLY CONFIRMS 'ECLIPSE' MOVIE

SUMMIT OFFICIALLY CONFIRMS ‘ECLIPSE’ MOVIE

We’d heard the rumors that ‘Eclipse’ would be officially confirmed soon, and now Summit Entertainment has done just that. So no more worrying, Twilighters, we’ve heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. Below is Summit’s press release for the ‘Eclipse’ movie:

Los Angeles, CA, February 22, 2009 — Summit Entertainment announced today that ECLIPSE, the third film in the TWILIGHT saga, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Melissa Rosenberg, who wrote the scripts for both TWILIGHT and NEW MOON, is currently writing the script for ECLIPSE and continues to consult with TWILIGHT book series author Stephenie Meyer.

In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob - knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

The action-packed, modern day vampire love story and blockbuster success of the first film in the series entitled TWILIGHT was released in theatres on November 21, 2008 grossing $69.6 million domestically during its first weekend. To date the film has grossed over $188 million domestically and over $362 million worldwide. The second installment of the film franchise, NEW MOON starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, will be released November 20, 2009.

I was so excited to hear from Deadline Hollywood that ‘Eclipse’ was confirmed, but it’s a huge relief just to hear it from Summit as well. After all the rumors going back and forth about ‘New Moon’ before it was confirmed, it’s nice to get this out of the way (officially) and not have to worry about if the movie will be made or not.

Does Summit’s press release make you anymore at ease about the movie, or were you pretty convinced when Deadline Hollywood had announced it? And Summit confirmed the release date also - now that that’s confirmed, are you worried or relieved?

Two concerns: first, why are they releasing “eclipse” on a wednesday? seems an odd day, especially with the trouble they’re going to with releasing the “twilight” dvd on a friday for the fans… secondly, i’m nervous about them pumping the movies out so fast! with barely 7 months between NM and eclipse, i hope they focus more on quality than how quickly they can get the movies out.

  2. Morricia responded:

I am totally flabbergasted!! I was not even thinking there were rumors about Eclipse since New Moon hasn’t even started filming! But to hear about this now!! Ahh!! I’m totally stoked! && ready for both movies! It just makes me wonder on if the 3rd movie will be longer, since there is soo much vital information in the book to have it sound & go along perfectly….but I’m ready to see how they do it! :]]

  3. LipGloss712 responded:

I really wanna see breaking dawn made into a movie.

  4. Caitlin responded:

swweeeettt!!! i’m super excited :] but now i’m worried about weather or not they’ll make breaking dawn into a movie…i think it would be very difficult to make that book into a film…it has the possibility to lose so much in translation to film…but i’d love to see it ;> can’t wait for new moon, and eclipse of course!!!!!!!

  5. barbyr responded:

I’m shocked! I really hope they don’t sacrifice quality. Summit really doesn’t have anything to lose whether they put out excellent sound movies or a mediocre ones. The truth is I will go see them all as will many devoted fans. I’m not putting myself or any other fans down, I KNOW we really want quality and for the movies to stay as true to the books as possible. But really, Summit is going to get their money. The following is much too great and they are cashing in no matter what.

  6. oretha responded:

The reason they are choosing that day is because it is. The fourth of July weekend.
They are believing that this could be their blockbuster.

    YAY!!!

And that is, officially, all I have to say about that.

  9. Jane responded:

I am excited for New Moon and Eclipse. If they are as good as Twilight that will be awesome. I am hoping that Breaking Dawn will also be made into a movie. It really needs to be to finish telling the story. LOVED THE BOOKS.

  10. mcullenvamp responded:

i’m psyched to see the books made into movies, but to release a launch date for eclipse before new moon starts filming and doing the movies so tightly squeezed together doesn’t seem like a good idea. us twilighters, while excited, will more than likely be around for years to come to wait for quality productions of our beloved books. it kinda blows my mind to not even wait to see how good this director does before announcing that he wont be doing the 3rd one. i understand now why catherine hardwicke isn’t signed on for new moon. i do hope she’s back for eclipse. i think she captured the intimacy of the characters very well without making it too “hollywood.” i liked the ‘indie’ feel to the movie.

  11. ATA responded:

well it makes sense, the actors can’t look any older and im pretty sure that some people playing 17,18,19,20-30 year olds are older than what they play.so they have to do it fast or else they’ll have to replace the actors every movie

  12. bretmarie responded:

Rob said in an interview at the Oscars that there will be a Breaking Dawn movie - Summit probably has already purchased the movie rights.

  13. Jenny responded:

Ok, so I read on another site that Eclipse would be the THIRD AND FINAL movie! Does anyone know, for sure, from some where RELIABLE if it will indeed be the last movie or that they will indeed make Breaking Dawn. I have a feeling they wont. One: its very long! A few things from fans i have read, about making it into two movies, is a good idea money wise. But I dont think summit is looking to pump that much money into the movies. I think it might change when they see how much the next two make.
two: I think, from the sound of things, they are gonna turn bella at the end of the Eclipse movie. I cant be sure, but everything I have been reading really sounds like they plan on turning her then.

    What so you all think??

  14. gig responded:

AHHHH i cant wait! i really hope they dont change a lot or miss anything since it Kinda seems like its being rushed….but im sure if they do a bad job ill still see it multiple times!

as for breaking dawn, i would love to see it made in2 a movie but at the same time w/ the whole nessie/birth/special effects i dont want them ruining it…my imagination works better lol

  15. liz responded:

    thats a worrying rush
this makes me think that they maybe doing Breaking Dawn and want some extra time for it say release it December 2011. So the actors are still young enough

  16. janet responded:

I am so excited. Im a little worried how quick they are making these movies. I hope they take enough to make them better than the first.

  17. Whats up Cullen responded:

Grr I hate Living In England =[

  18. April responded:

I am excited that it is going to be released soon after New Moon. I prefer to get them like this. Instead of waiting 1 or 2 yeas inbetween. The one I really want to see made into a movie is Beaking Dawn even though that the last chapter. I find that book the most thrilling. I have no doubt I will probably cry during New Moon during certain scenes and the last two as well.

  19. christina responded:

OMG!! that is sooooo long! i can barely wait for new moon and u want me to wait another year for eclipse. pshh! they should film faster! lolz

  20. Amanda responded:

    Yay!!

i am soo happy about this…but i hope they dont rush it!! its only like 7 months after New Moon!!!! i also hope they do breaking dawn!!

  21. Logan responded:

OME!! i cant wait til breaking dawn :]]] that would be so awesome.

  22. savannah responded:

omg 2010 thts ages away i want it now i carnt wait i want to see them now :O

  23. Jett responded:

You have to see this fan trailer. HQ and gives me the goosebumps every time. I especially like what she did to the Summit logo (I think they should copy it). Be sure to turn off the annotations (otherwise you’ll be distracted from this amazing fan trailer).

  24. regi responded:

thats it for me , they have done it, they have for sure ruined the movies. these movies are going to be done filming before the harry potter series is done. there are too many special effects in these movies to be rushing them like this, the first movie sucked and i have seen the wolves for the new moon on the trailer and am really hoping that they don’t look that bad in the real movie. i can’t believe they did this to my fav books.
