SUN TIMES – ILLINOIS BEEFS UP SECURITY

Posted November 11th, 2008 By: 4 Comments »

After the fiasco/riot in San Francisco, Illinois has gotten with the program and decided to step up security for the next Twilight appearance:

Given the riots in San Francisco surrounding a mall appearance by ‘‘Twilight’’ star Robert Pattinson, the Orland Park Police Department has geared up for the actor’s scheduled appearance early Wednesday evening at Orland Square Mall.

In addition, the mall’s own security force is said to be ‘‘totally ready’’ for the expected hordes of tween and teen girls, who make up the bulk of fans for the Twilight saga of books, penned by Stephanie Meyer.

I know many of you were concerned about future appearances. Let’s hope all the venues get a clue and over prepare for the hordes.
Be safe! Will you go to the Oregon one because it seems more safe?

Sorry guys, I ooops-ed. It was Illinois.

Just FYI. the Orland Park is the Chicago Location. I live about 2hours south and I knew it was going to be crazy so I decided two weeks ago that I wasn’t going to go anyway. But I do hope that everyone stays safe.

I was at Orland Park in the Chicago area at 4:30am this morning and it was a fiasco. There were a bunch of cops who said that the tickets were sold at 1:30am because there were more than 1000 people there and hot topic made the executive decision to sell them then and there way before they were officially supposed to have gone on sale. Of course it was hard to believe them since a similar situation occurred in San Fran and then hours later they ended up selling the tickets. So I waited until 7:30am and went into the mall when it finally opened. Hot Topic was open so that people could go in and shop with a coupon which they handed out to make up for it. I spoke to PR person who said it was their decision to make since they were hosting it… He questioned if I heard what happened in San Fran and I said sorry but this situation is worse than San Francisco. Nobody even had a chance. It royally sucked that tons of people went when they thought they were early and the wristbands were sold hours earlier. They should have had an official Hot Topic person outside guaranteeing that this was the case instead of letting people wait hours to find out for themselves that it really happened that way. They kept saying “you can come back at 7:30pm for the Q&A which is open to the public.” But seeing the situation throughout the early morning and how upset people were, it is just going to be a huge mob there tonight. This tour should have taken place at a larger venue. Hot Topic clearly did not see this coming but handled it so poorly. I hope they realize that they will have lost customers through all of this. Was that worth it?
