TA TALKS BACK: A DEEPER LOOK AT THE ‘TWILIGHT’ CANDY
Today I, TA Staffer Becky, take a deeper look into the edible side of the New Moon merchandise world: the Twilight candies; including the Twilight NECCO Sweethearts and the new New Moon chocolates by SkyBar.

It’s been more than a year since products came on the market, branded with the Twilight logo. I’m fairly sure most of us all own something now that has been released by NECA and other companies that has Twilight or now New Moon on it, fully licensed by Summit. Everything from tee shirts and posters to bookmarks, jewelry, key chains and even body glitter and perfume. Some items were a natural fit. Everyone wants posters of Rob and Taylor and who doesn’t love tee shirts? What girl doesn’t want Bella’s bracelet or any of the Cullen Crest jewelry worn in the movie? Even the body glitter, though that falls into the what-will-they-think-of-next category, works as something to tie into the movie release. Another natural fit were the special Twilight “Sweethearts” candies from Necco since a small box of the candies features in a touching scene in New Moon between Bella and Jacob. The Sweethearts aren’t bad, if you can still get a box. They are a little softer than the normal Sweetheart candies and in special fruit flavors. A few even…sparkle.
But chocolates? And in time for Halloween?
I had heard about them from someone on the forum so I decided to seek them out. I went to the same chain store the person mentioned and purchased 2 bags. These aren’t the same as the bigger chocolates put out recently. These are bags of 24 individually wrapped candies. There are three flavors/shapes. “Edward” is the Cullen Crest and is filled with caramel. “Bella” is a heart shape that says “bella” and is filled with vanilla crème. “Jacob” is an oval wolf shape filled with peanut butter.
I’m partial to peanut butter filled chocolates so I first tried a “Jacob.” Not bad. Not quite the same saltiness a Reese’s Cup has but still good. The chocolate was also good. The caramel “Edwards” were also very good as were the “Bellas” though those were a little too sweet for my taste.
At about $2.50US per bag for 24 chocolates, I’m not sure they are something I’d be handing out to trick-or-treaters but if you are planning a Twilight Halloween part or a party to view Twilight before your group goes to the New Moon midnight show, they would be a great choice.
An interesting side note: When I tried the “Jacob” chocolate, I noticed it was a little melted. I thought it was because of the warm day, even though the other two flavors didn’t seem affected. A few days later, the “Jacob” chocolates are all melted and deformed even more, yet the others are still fine. Sort of…hard like most filled chocolates are. Do the “Jacob” chocolates run at a higher temperature too?
So, Twilight fans, what do you think? Have you tried any of the Twilight candy/chocolate? What do you think about it? Talk back to us…

I have two boxes of the Sweethearts. They are tropical flavored; I didn’t really care for them. The boxes however contain great graphics from the movie. I carry them around, and will probably never eat the candy.
10/23/09 I bought a bag today looking for Edward who is “Carmel”…TWO carmel candies in the whole bag!!!You are correct Jacob’s “Peanut Butter” ones are deformed or crushed upon opening.
