TA TALKS BACK: MEANT TO BE OR NOT?

TA member ithomas talks about whether Bella and Edward were meant to be.

Meant to be or not – by ithomas:

Since finishing the saga, time and time again, I find myself thinking that everything that was supposed to happen did happen. I’m a firm believer that Bella and Edward were meant to be together, as many of you probably do. Had Carlisle never been changed, Edward never would have had the opportunity to be with Bella as she was roughly 90 years younger. Which brings me to the notion that since Edward is a vampire, he and Bella are truly each others counter parts, Bella was destined to become a vampire as well. Throughout the whole saga there are subtle and sometimes very bold statements and facts that back this theory up.

In Twilight Bella is used to being totally isolated, doesn’t really ever claim a “home”, and she’s somewhat estranged from both her parents are just a few. She loves her parents but as we’ve already established, they’re not really “parents” they’re like friends or roommates. She’s not afraid of Edward and his family, we know that most people stay away from them because they are “strange” and Edward said unconsciously they know that they should stay away. Bella not only doesn’t stay away, she’s not afraid. When Edward leaves her in NM she is broken, and not just a first love kinda of broken, it really was like a piece of her was gone.

The real concrete proof though is in Breaking Dawn. Once Bella has changed and done her three days in the fire so to speak she is so controlled. No one was expecting Bella to behave this way. From being the clumsy human to being able to jump out of Edward’s window for the first hunt. Of course we knew that those things would change for her, but even Edward said she was very graceful for a newborn. She was able to control herself those first moments because she stopped and thought about what she was doing. I mean for crying out loud she hung out with Charlie almost immediately afterward and she was fine. Bella was a shield before she was turned and after she turned out to be a pretty powerful one at that.

During the big confrontation Aro somewhat puts that thought in the forefront of your mind, “It is as if you were designed for this life.” I agree that she truly was designed to that life, every ounce of it. And in my opinion the whole Cullen family was destined to be together as well, you can’t have one without the other. What do you think? Was everything meant to be or was it just coincidence?

I do agree, I think this supernatural life was meant for Bella for all those reasons stated above. Of all the people, it was only her mind that Edward couldn’t hear. Since that discovery in Twilight, as I read thru the rest of the books, I was waiting for that significance and explanation. I figured that would be important in the end, however that was to evolve.

I love how SM turned everything around for Bella after she became a vampire, how her human clumsiness ironically turned her to be the strongest one and save all of them in the end; how she can smell blood when people shouldn’t be able to; how her reactions were just not “normal” for a human, etc. I also thought that there was more to her attachment to Jacob than love and friendship, hence Jacob being meant to imprint on Renesmee.

This is so true. Bella was shocked that Edward told her she was graceful after that first jump. Even with all his hovering and protective nature, he had never said that before.

Also in BD, Bella relates that she feels she was destined for this life. After about three months (I think), she revels in her happiness and how her life has settled into a pattern. A pattern that seemed almost impossible before she changed.

As you said, Bella never fit anywhere. Was never really happy anywhere, until she was with Edward. They truly are two halves joined together. Edward touched on this in Twilight. The first time in her bedroom, after the time in the meadow. He had never found anyone, did not know he needed anyone, even after 90+ years because Bella had not been born yet. How profound is that?

She helped complete the Cullen family. How else could a human have fit in so well with a family of vampires? Even if they were ‘vegetarians’.

It is almost too much, but I love it anyway.

I also love how it was so important for Edward to let Bella experience all important human moments like prom and then she gives him the ultimate human experience…..being a father!

absolutely. there’s also a line in twilight about how Bella things she doesn’t see the world the way other people do. And when she asks why Edward can’t read her mind she questions if she’s just different than other people. plus the fact that her two soul mates are from the supernatural world. ;-)

There’s a lot of references/foreshadowing throughout the series that Bella was meant to be a vampire. That’s why I wanted to strangle Edward when he kept resisting her changing. And wanted to shout “TOLD YOU SO!” once she became a vampire and loved it. LOL

I totally agree that Bella was destined to be a vampire. It was foreshadowed from the beginning, especially with being able to smell blood. After she changed she proved adept at everything vampire- maybe better than most other grown vampires. Edward was afraid for Bella to be around when he and the others were hunting-but Bella was able to realize that the scent she was hunting was human and was able to resist and run away. What about the dreams though- I thought maybe she has precognition?

Libbers, You have done a wonderful job with this one. I wholeheartedly agree with your your opinion and your reasoning here. :)

I also agree that Bella was destined to be a vampire. When you think about how different she’s always has been-smelling blood, etc. Her destiny was Edward and being a Cullen. In Breaking Dawn, Aro complimented her saying she was suited for this life. As she mentioned in the book, she chose the life she wanted and now she wanted to live it with Edward.

I agree. She and Edward were meant to be… Even though He faught against it for so long and thought he was doing her a favor by leaving her and then her turning around and saving him, which also proves that it is meant to be…. I also love how Stephenie wrote the story!! I am also glad that Jacob imprinted on Renesemee.. I think that was meant to be because he needed to be in Bella’s life and I love how she kept the ties with the people that she loved…. Even SM said that she was the exception to the Human Rule… I love how in BD that when she Sparkles that she says that she was meant for this life…

  • Addicted to Edward

Oh, and Bella being so pale even as a human, forgot about that.

  • Caroline

Everyone here has made such great points. I have always thought that they were meant to be together. One cannot exist without the other one. I don’t have anything new to add.

    vampseraphim asked the question:

“What about the dreams though- I thought maybe she has precognition?”

I was thinking the same thing while reading too. I wasn’t sure if that was an additional power she was going to have after turning or if it was just because of the pregnancy. I remember having some crazy freaky dreams like that both times I was pregnant. We need to get an interviewer to ask SM that. :)

Hello!Did you lose your mind or what?Eduard and Bella are just a characters from a book!!!They are not real!!!The story is written to be so,because it follows Stefany Mayer’s idea. That’s why there is no other option for the couple except to be together to the end of eternity!Enjoy the saga but don’t mess your favourite heroes up with real people, there is rather difference!!!Please,be more psychological in life, stick to the more important things like true relationships for instance!

  • washmysoul

    GROW UP,people!!!It’s just a book!!!

  • washmysoul

We live in a free country, right?Don’t you forget about free speech?Every single man has the right to speak no matter if he doesn’t agree whit the others! That’s all I want to tell you!!!

  • han

i think they were ment to be because bell was ment to be wit edward and edward wit bella. like edward said he has been waiting 4 her 4 about 100 years, wen edward saw bella for the first time he said he new she was the one he has been waiting for.wen bella looked at edward for the first time ther ws a connection with them and from that day on there lives would never be the same!!!!!

  • Sophie

If you think about it, Edward and Bella were meant to be. Because arent the people wolves impint on like set for them? So if Edward and bella weren’t meant to be together, Jacob wouldnt have imprinted on someone else, right? So I think that means they were meant to be because of Jacob being a wolf if you get what I mean.
