TA TALKS BACK: HOW TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY

Posted July 9th, 2009 By: flick 3 Comments »

TA fan Allison has written up an article on the Twilight stars and their charity work, and how you can help our community:

How to Help our Community – Vampire and Werewolf Style by Allison:

You would think with New Moon coming out in a few months that the cast
wouldn’t have time to think about helping our community, let alone actually doing it. But no, a lot of them actually find time to help our community even if it is just at fundraisers or donating to charity. So why can’t we? Let’s take a look at what some of our favorite movie’s cast members have done this past year to help our community and world:

Robert Pattinson- Robert might be quiet and modest but our Edward definitely knows how to make money for charity. Just this past May Pattinson auctioned off a kiss on the cheek to the highest bidders. These kisses went to two teenage girls for a total of $60,000. This $60,000 went to the Amf&R charity which studies AIDS.

Taylor Lautner- Taylor had also helped out in the charity front in April this year by painting a messenger bag. This went to the charity Books for Kids Foundation. Obviously this foundation raises money to buy books for children. Many children in our world don’t have books or can’t afford them so this charity helps kids that don’t have books that
want them.

Ashley Greene- Ashley hosted a charity function March this year for Donate a Dress. Donate a Dress gives away old prom dresses or other kinds of dresses to girls in need of one. One of the reasons why she did this was it reached her heart. Don’t do something unless you are passionate about it. That is the only way you will do it at your best.

Kellan Lutz- In March, Kellan donated a signed hardhat for the Habitat for Humanity auction. Habitat for Humanity is a foundation that wants everyone to have a place called home. Not only that but a safe home as well. Everyone should have a home but not everyone is lucky. In fact, every year millions of people lose home from natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes.

This is only a few things that these twilight vampires and werewolves have done. In fact, this is only a few of the cast members. Every month there are new things that they have done. If you want to know what other things these cast mates have done, check back here from time to time. TA is right behind the Twilight Saga cast as they help out our
world.

How can we Help our World, too?

All these actors are just people like us, but they have jobs in the spotlight. We can help just like them. You might not be able to sell a couple of kisses for $60,000 or give away something you have signed for a lot of money but there are other things you can do. Here is a list of what you can do to help the world be a better place:

1. Volunteer for organizations in your area, like the Habitat for Humanity or the Red Cross.
2. Donate food to a food drive or bake something for a bake sale.
3. Organize a fundraiser, then donate the money to a favorite charity.
4. Read to children or teach someone who’s illiterate how to read.
5. Donate, if just a few dollars a year to a charity.
6. Help build houses for people suffering after natural disasters
7. Tutor kids and teens that need help in school.
8. Every year donate a few things to places that sell things secondhand or give to countries in need.
9. Go green and use the resources that is good for our world.
10. Or just be nice to people if anything. Make someone’s day and make them feel good about themselves. Make a goal to do at least one nice thing a day.

Helping our community isn’t hard. You just have to take the time to try. The best person that helps the community does it just to give back, not for the glory and money. So…….. Let’s show the world how much TA gives back! Be like a Vampire or a werewolf and help someone. What are your stories of giving back to the community?

One of the best and simplest things that you can do to help your community is have a food drive. Call your local food banks to see what they need, but it is almost guaranteed that banks in any area run short in the summer. In the US, many low-income children have their breakfast and lunch provided at school. During the summer, parents are required to come up with those two extra meals a day. Add to that the fact that people only generally think about food banks around Thanksgiving and Christmas…and you can see the problem.

A good idea as to what may be helpful to your local food bank:

    Hearty soups
    Canned meats
    Boxed meals
    Paper Towels
    Toilet Paper
    Feminine Products

Often, paper products are forgotten, but many food banks allow these donations. You’ve got to have TP, right?

Vegetables are great, but they don’t make up a hearty meal, so try to avoid the canned corn/beans/etc.

Also, some banks have freezer and refrigerator space, so check about the possibility of bringing frozen foods.

Great article, Allison. We can all do our part to help our communities!

I’d like to commend Allison for such a wonderful article. With the great popularity of Twilight, this is a great way to make people aware of what we can all do for our community.

One ease way is to pay attention to those flyers we get at home of donation trucks coming to your street. They come by every couple months. It’s an easy way to rid of your old clothes or furnitures that are not being used anymore. All you have to do is pay attention to the date and leave your stuff wrapped up at the front door. We get to tidy up and get to help those who are less fortunate.

I have been impressed by all the Charity work the cast
members have been involved in. I very much appreciate the article Allison. The above Comments are important too. My husband and I donate to our church’s food pantry and we all use it to cook and feed the Homeless every Friday evening at the Salvation Army in our area. Also, last winter we had a jacket & blanket drive for them.
