TA TALKS BACK: IS THE HYPE TOO MUCH?

TA fan Kimberly discusses the hype that started for Twilight and possibly continues for New Moon:

Is the Hype Too Much? by Kimberly

As the creation of the movie ‘New Moon’ gets us all stirred up and in a frenzy, I’m left with an unanswerable question….. I think. Does ‘New Moon’ need the promotional hype that ‘Twilight’ received? Does it need mall tours and visits to every country that it premieres in across the world? I guess because I am so far from all of the hoopla and never have a chance to see or be a part of it, I just wonder do these actors need this torture all over again? I know the newbies to the cast probably won’t mind it as much as the others will but do Kristen and Rob need to be put through the screaming tween fan base again? I’m sorry, Teens and Tweens, I understand why you scream; it’s a very common reaction to be so close to those we admire. I’ve been there. Today, I’d probably just pee in my pants if I came face to face with the likes of Rob (or possibly even Taylor though I’d feel like such a pedophile for even thinking that he’s adorably cute!) However, I think that if the screaming (or the sounds of hell as Rob put it) was to tone down a bit, the promotional tours would be much more appealing and make more sense! I think, at this point though, that the promotional touring is a bit much. I mean, who doesn’t know about the New Moon movie that doesn’t need to know? There will be enough promotional hype with interviews across all mediums and with an overzealous fan base that they don’t need to do the torturous mall tours. I mean, think about it, do other movies arrange these mall appearances? Please don’t beat me down too hard on this one!

no i dont think they should like u said everyone that needs to know about it already do but if they do just put the new kids out there give them a chance to have fun with it!!!!!!!!!!

  • A

That is exactly how i feel! I mean, they seriously don’t need more of these appearences, what else is there to know, or see? they don’t need to promote it because, believe me, it promotes itself.

  • Jill

I agree whole hearted with this article. There is no need to put those stars through that. The people who need to know wbout New Moon already know. Most are already fans of Twilight and the enitre series.

  • Chelle

As much as I would love to see the cast in person at my local mall, I don’t think they need to go that route again. Like it says in the article, us fans know all we need to know. They cast, esp RP, KS and TL need a break and need to recharge. After all, they don’t have much of a break until they start filming Eclipse in Aug.

  • Erenn

I agree… put the new kids out there! Since New Moon is more about the wolfpack anyway, let them take a turn. Rob, Kristen and Taylor have been beaten down enough as it is… They need a well-deserved break after this.
Besides… after seeing that wolfpack poster… Holy hello!! I would think more people would WANT to see them out and about at the promos!

  • Morgan

I agree with you. If you don’t know about new moon then apparently your not a real fan or you don’t pay attention to all the promotion its getting on the internet and the television. I think they don’t need mall tours because just watch TV and you can find mostly everything out if you go on the internet. I agree 100% with you.

  • Team RCatz

Ditto to all the above. The cast has busted their butts promoting Twilight, the DVD release, and then filming New Moon with hardly any break for the holidays and barely enough time to get the ringing sound out of their ears before round-two commences. I think they ought to get a promo break. Twilighters can throw their own promo-parties. We’re organized and we’ll still have fun. For heaven’s sake, let Rob, Taylor, Kristen, Ashley and the rest of the gang get some sleep!!!!

  • Addicted to Edward

The cast will be filming Eclipe right before New Moon is released, so they probably won’t have time to do tours, etc. anyway. Except for maybe the Volturi actors.

But I agree, at this point it’s not really necessary. Last year they had no idea how well Twilight would do and it really was approached more as an indy film. This time around, they have a better idea of the HUGE size of the fanbase and hopefully can make better decisions. ie if they still decide to do tours, etc. they can be better planned knowing just how many people they may be expecting.

  • Twilight Mom Australia

100% with all of the above please give Rob, Kristen and Taylor etc a break…
Yes pleeeease ……put the wolf pack out there just like Erenn said and the new b’s. Exactly New Moon does not need heaps of hype and promos the important ones now that’s all of us Twilighters, Twi-hards already know as for the rest well they have been under a rock anyway and can stay there……
I don’t want to see our Rob subjected to anymore medieval screams from Hell, until it is absolutely and I mean absolutely necessary, maybe only 1 red carpet at the premiere of New Moon for him.

My first attempt was lost, so here goes again.

I agree none of the cast should do mall tours. Lets face it, that route is for teenies only, and relatively small or new names. The cast and audience is well past that now.

But, as for normal film promotion, I feel they should do personal appearances. I am referring to talk shows, and possibly some live appearances. All actors do this. No matter how major you are, how “A” list, how long-standing your career is, all help promote their films. It is part of the game.

However, I think it should be different this time. Kristen, Rob and Taylor should go out separately. They are now established enough to be able to carry a solo appearance. Let’s face it, they carry the bulk of the film That is why they are all on the one-sheet. This would cover more shows, and they could limit their individual time spent on promotion.

Yes, they have worked hard, but all of them knew going into New Moon this was huge. They are better prepared than for Twilight. This is a world-wide phenomenon and they are the faces of it. They have to be there. Of course all the fans won’t need any encouraging to go to the theatre, but Summit is always looking to expand that demographic. In my opinion, a little time spent representing the characters in public is not too much to ask.
