On the TA forum, there has been heated discussion about the New Moon movie trailer. TA forum member HollyJo123 weighs in:

The Negativity Surrounding the New Moon Movie Trailer by HollyJo123

Like the countless twi-hards I too was anxiously awaiting the release of the first New Moon trailer. I even missed most of my beloved Red Wings game because of it! So last night I sat with my laptop firmly across my lap and squealed when I saw it was on youtube! Let me just say I loved the trailer!! I got goosebumps the size of goose eggs!! Even my husband liked it and he really, really hates Twilight. I mean REALLY! So here I am all happy and excited only to have that bubble burst by reading the comments threads for the trailer.

I think it’s fair to say that most people agree with me that it was great! Super! Fantastic! But there are those who are not happy with it,
and there are those who absolutely hate it. It would be wrong of me to expect every single person out there to love the New Moon trailer as much as I do. But I find some of the comments very frustrating. So much so that I want to cyber yell…. you know ALL CAPS!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!! Let me just address the major issues that I have with the negative comments.

1: There is too much Edward and not enough Jacob….. What does this have to do with anything!! It’s 1 minute and 48 seconds!! What do you
want to happen? Edwards says “Ciao Bella” and then it’s all Jacob singing “If you want my body and you think I’m sexy” while showing off his 24 pack. My husband would hate it even more and it would be banned from the house!!

2: Bella/Kristen isn’t crying and hysterical in the breakup scene….If you reread the scene in the book you will find that Bella does not cry… at all. She keeps saying how she feels numb. The whole scene in the trailer was 15 seconds… you can’t include much in that.

3: The wolf looks to cartoony, cuddly, and small… I seriously don’t know what kind of dogs you people have but that’s not something I want
to cuddle with! I would rather snuggle up with a Cujo!! As for the size, we won’t be able to accurately judge that until we see a side by side comparison with something or someone else.

4: Why is Jake phasing in front of Bella?… Because that’s what he does… Chapter 14 page 325.. ’nuff said.

5: Why is Jake the only one fighting Laurent?…. They spliced the clips together to make it seem that way for effect.

6: It’s not like how I pictured it… It’s not going to be exactly how you pictured it because it’s someone else picturing it.

7: I’m disappointed he didn’t say (insert whatever) or I’m disappointed they didn’t show (insert whatever)… It’s a trailer!! If they added everything we want to see, it becomes a movie.

8: (insert here) scene needs to be way better…. They finished filming… moot point.

9: Where is Edwards pea coat? He should be dressed in more grays… Alice probably donated it to charity and bought him that gray shirt we saw from the first set pictures a while back. Happy! And I don’t think he would wear the pea coat to the party.

10: Jasper’s hair is awful…. I pretty much agree, but maybe they felt that was closer to the style from his time…. ??

11: Rob looks to old to pass for a 17 year old…. That’s because he’s 23! But hey if Gabrielle Carteris could play a high school student
when she was almost 30, Rob can surely play a 17 year old vampire. And for those who don’t remember Gabrielle played Andrea Zuckerman in the original 90210.

12: I miss the blue tint of the scenes… Go to Hot Topic, Claire’s, or Walmart and buy yourself some blue tinted sunglasses. Problem solved.

13: The staircase is wrong in the Cullen’s house, it’s supposed to be a spiral…. Does it really matter? Is it going to absolutely ruin the movie if the staircase isn’t how you pictured it?

I feel much better now.

Amen to that! I agree with everything she said. I’m really excited that this film isn’t blue tinted. Come on…just be excited!!

I agree with the article. The people who are complaining need to realize that the movie has a LONG way to go before its actually finish-that’s one of the reasons why Weitz can’t be in Eclipse-the timing of post-production overlaps the pre-production of Eclipse. Secondly, the movie is suppose to come out in November, usually movies slated for Nov. releases don’t actually introduce a trailer till much later. Therefore, Weitz was doing you favor! He didn’t have to give us a sneak peek; he could have gone the traditional route and just waited for the allotted time to present a trailer. Also, I don’t think that can even be considered a trailer since most of the key elements of the book was left out. Instead, I think it’s a complimentary insight into the progress thus far in the movie for all the fans. In other words, again, he was doing you a favor! Trust me; if you consider what was shown more of a “sneak peek” rather than the “end all be all”, it will make judging it so harshly more futile and impossible. It just makes me sick all the so called fans that want to tear it down as if this is what is to be expected in Nov. You should be thankful that you saw anything!

This more or less this speaks to the idea of comments and forums. I expressed some negative opinions on the trailer(not all bad) no bubble bursting intended. So here i go and i hope this doesn’t appear twice because my computer locked up the first time….

I know what you are saying and I’m glad that you said it. That is why i love this site. We are all here because we love Twilight. This is our place to speak our minds about our passion. This brings on very strong personal feelings and we don’t always agree. I obsess about Twilight (like most of you), I love to obsess about Twilight(except that it severely interferes with what i get done during the day, often), I love getting wrapped up in it. Since this is pretty much the only place to share these thoughts and fears everything comes out (good bad and ugly) and everything seems stronger when written. The opinions expressed take on a lot of intensity especially when they are not the same about something you are so passionate about. But i think this is the place to do it, right? a forum.

There is a certain TAer out there that can’t stand Jacob (i think its in book club). She goes on and defends her point very well and brings others in. I disagree very much with her (by the way i am compiling notes to defend my point if I see it again, lol) she makes me want to defend him and i don’t like him all that much. I disagree with her, but I LOVE THE PASSION (was that loud enough, it was supposed to be). I very fiercely defended Twilight(the movie) when i first saw it and heard negative comments, it was like someone was criticizing my child(almost) but as time went by I was able to admit to myself(and many others around me) that is wasn’t perfect and I would like it to have been better. Still I love it like a mother loves a child, despite faults and shortcomings. The trailer was just ok for me,more details are expressed in one of the threads. I think it is fun to do this; mull, think, over think, rethink express. Even though it won’t really change anything. Silly isn’t it?

One thing i don’t like is when the comments get too personal and rude about real people especially the actors. The exception to this rule would be Megan Fox (just kidding, …sneer).

sam said, “I also don’t think I could be any happier that the blut tint is gone! That alone should earn Chris an award :p ”

    AMEN TO THANK! LOL

  • vicky

i couldnt agree more, you said everything i wanted to !
i was jumping around the house when i saw the trailer!!
and then (like you said) everyone was trying to burst my bubble,,my mum and dad told me 2 stop squealing like a 2 year old, my friends were telling me that Laurents eyes shuda been black because he was thirsty,,the colour of the movie looked wrong,,THE CAKE WASNT PINK,,why were the volturi not in it !?!?!?
i mean, how can people NOT love the trailer and be SO grateful that they showed the trailer so early ?!?!

  • Valerie

I, for one, thought the trailer was awesome. The only thing that bothered me was that the CGI wolf didn’t really look like it fit, if that makes sense. I hope they make it more real looking and slightly bigger. But the acting seems to be a lot better and the birthday scene looks wicked. I am really excited for the scene with Laurent too. All in all, I think it pretty accurately depicts New Moon thus far.

  • annette

Holy cow!! i absoulutly agree with you. Thanks for saying what alot of people were thinking. My sister and I were on the phone screaming at the top of our lungs cuz we loved it so much. My kids even came to see what was wrong!! lol!

I would also like to point out to those who say “he is supposed to be a werewolf”(i read this on E! i think), he is a shape shifter not a werewolf! take the time to read the books before you comment!

sorry had to get that off my chest!

  • twimom817

I am so glad you wrote this. I have been writing the same comments in the forum. You took all the words right out of my mouth. It is just the trailer and people are reading into it too much. It is suppossed to be highlighted parts of the movie not the entire movie. That is why Twilighters are just going to have to wait till November 20th for the full movie.

  • dh_director

I welcome the differences between New Moon and Twilight. All of the weird blue/gray tones have been removed and made more realistic. After all, don’t we read the books and think, “Yeah, I wish this could happen” ? The scene with Laurent had to be different than the book because the first movie had the meadow scene (if you can call it that) happening above the high school. Some elements had to be condensed to fit it all into a movie of reasonable length. Kristen Stewart plays Bella a little colder than I had pictured in my mind, but that’s her prerogative. The wolf is much more realistic than the vampire speed in Twilight, so let’s just count ourselves lucky there. Oh, and Jasper’s hair was bad in the first movie, too. He should definitely wear a baseball cap at all times.

I watch the trailer many times every day now and can’t wait for the movie! I’m also looking forward to the start of filming for Eclipse. Bring it on!

  • tifnif

I agree! Why can’t people just be happy that they got to see anything at all! I thought the trailer was awesome and I had tears in my eyes because I think New Moon is going to be so awesome!!!

  • b

I agree completely with numbers 1 and 12. Number 1, it’s a trailer. They’re not going to get into the entire story, just the beginning. The beginning is about how Edward leaves, while Jacob doesn’t come in until way later. Get over it, there will be more of him in the actual movie. As for the blue tint, i hated it and found it very distracting. I hope it is really gone. And as for number 13, I agree the staircase should have been spiral, but it wasn’t in the first movie so they can’t change it now. I would prefer if the clothing, the cars, and every little detail were the same as the book, but it’s just not going to happen. The spiral staircase isn’t critically important so who really cares.

Really funny post. I totally agree though. The complainers need to be a little more realistic there will be some small changes here and there as long as it keeps all the main key points through the movie thats what really matters (i.e. changing the story line). STOP RAINING ON OUR PARADE!

  • Lana

This was a great article and you are so right!! I mean come on you complainers it most likely isn’t the full length trailer anyway. Look at Harry Potter. The first trailer came out months ago and it is so different than the one they show now, it has more in it! I mean come on people do you not think! As far as people nit picking about certain details such as the Cullen house, hello, the movie isn’t going to be exactly like the book. Haven’t we already established that. Who the hell cares about a stupid staircase and so forth. We should all be gratefull that Summit gave us a Glimps, yes people I said a Glimpse of New Moon. That’s all it was, just enough to make us want more! So all you complainers “Get Over It” and be happy!!!

  • tina

you miss the point, they changed to much from the book and from twilight the movie. you cant go changing the Cullens house from what it ewas in twilight to what you ever you want. Hair can change clothes can change but house, schools forests, beaches and medows can’t and shouldn’t change if they do it should be very suttle as in season change.

  • Leslie

I loved the Trailer and I think people should be happy they released one at the awards! I think people will always find things to complain about no matter what, though! BUT I couldn’t believe they showed Jacob change…. That shocked me and made me totally excited about the movie!

  • Nadine

I completely agree!!!!! people just need to calm the heck down and be happy we even have a trailer right now. I mean, they could have made us wait until like August for it but they didn’t so don’t complain over something none of us have any control over.

On the other hand, I completely loved the trailer, it looks like it’s going to be soo good!!!!
(also didn’t like Jasper’s hair, but oh, well)

And anyone who lives in the world where every detail in the movie corresponds directly to the book, you are sadly mistaken.

  • K@ti3

    THANK YOU!!!

  • ms.jacob

i like the trailer its really good why is people makin a big deal of the smallest things of course they gonna change stuff in the movie but anyway the trailer was pretty good.

  • caitie

the laurent meadow scene wasnt in a meadow

  • Alisha

thank you thank you thank you
someone with enough sense to realize it was just a trailer!!!
    you rock :)

  • Brittany

I agree totally, this is soooo funny, and I’ve heard people talking about these exact things. The only thing I didn’t like was Jasper’s hair, and I think everyone agrees that his hair is BAD! Otherwise I liked everything, I’m happy so far with what Chris Weitz has done with New Moon and I can’t wait till November!

  • Melissa E

bahahahaha WELL SAID! i like this person!

  • EarthboundMisft

I agree! I for one am very grateful that we got to see this much of the work that has been put into New Moon. I love the color change, it gives it more of a “love story” feel, like the Twilight Saga should have (even if it is a depressing part in the ‘Edward & Bella’ story). And the CGI wolf looks amazing to me… the way he phased with the clothes shredding and flying off into every direction was PERFECT in my opinion. It was my favorite part of the trailer. I mean seriously, they aren’t supposed to be vicious animals… they are supposed to be protectors of the tribe and of humans, remember?? :-D

  • Melissa E

Its not just Jake fighting Laurent by himself, there are TWO different scenes going on there:

one is Bella running away with her backpack on (most likely after all the wolves show up BEFORE she even knows it Jake and gang) and when she running towards jakes house with NO backpack on and I think even wearing different clothes (maybe scene where Paul finds out?)
