TA TALKS BACK: RACHELLE RECAST!…GASP!
Site Owner Bella Cullen shares some thoughts on the news that role of Victoria was recast.
Statements made here are solely the opinion of one person and do not reflect a stance from the site as a whole.
I can’t help but observe that in the entertainment world when certain news hits, there are some annoyingly common statements released by publicists. For example, when a decision has been made that can cause negative press, the most often used reason is…”due to scheduling conflicts.” I’ve seen this at least twice already this week for recent celeb breakups and have seen it used countless times for decision changes at studios. And now, this recent announcement that Rachelle LeFevre has been replaced is…you guessed it…due to scheduling conflicts.
According to detailed statements from both sides this apparently really is the case. Before these statements were released however, I have to admit I found this reason really hard to believe. She seemed so committed to the role. Why else would she fight for it, even going as far as to write a long letter to the director or whoever; helping her get the part? As a devoted Twilighter myself, I loved the fact that she was a fan and so passionate that she felt compelled to do this. So I was very sad to hear that this had happened to her.
But truth be told, I’m optimistic about the change. Seeing Rachelle in the role of Victoria, as much as I wanted her to succeed, she just didn’t quite sell it for me. I think that maybe she’s too appealing as an actress. Her eyes weren’t right and I found her too soft looking, pretty and uncomplicated…not at all wild, menacing or sneaky as Victoria was described in the books.
So this schedule overlap just might be a blessing in disguise. I’m simply hoping that any changes that happen will only make better movies. From what I’ve seen so far, I think that Summit is finally giving the Twilight Saga it’s due by putting in a lot more money and quality into the following movies than they did with Twilight. I know I’m probably going to upset just a few fans out there by saying this…but in my opinion Twilight was not made the best that it could be. But that’s a whole other discussion… Let me just pose this, can’t you just imagine all the ways Twilight could have been better had there been more financial confidence from its producers?
On another note, I know that they can’t help it most of the time, but it REALLY does bother me when they replace actors in a series…ugh, Have you seen the latest Mummy movie? And come on, Richard Harris was Dumbledore!…But I digress, my point is…maybe it’s my slight OCD (compulsive not Cullen…this time anyway, lol), I usually find these replacements distracting and downright disappointing. This time however, I find myself excited to see Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria. In the past, I have not seen actor replacements as an improvement in movie franchises…but in this case for Victoria, it just might be. Even though I have only seen Bryce as sweet and vulnerable types….in her larger roles, she seems to possess an understated cunningness that’s simply mesmerizing. I think she’s capable of bringing something special to this character…plus her eyes are just right
