TA TALKS BACK: REBUTTAL TO “IS THE HYPE TOO MUCH?”

Posted May 19th, 2009 By: flick 2 Comments »

TA fan Oretha saw yesterday’s TA talks back and wrote a rebuttal:

Is the Hype Too Much? by Oretha

The promotion wheels of a, movie never shut down. Part of what makes a movie is making sure you get the people out there to see it. Publicists, managers, agents all will do cart wheels to try and get their actors and actresses in front of as many cameras, news papers and press as possible. Promotion tours are not just for the ones who know what’s coming, but for the ones who haven’t ever heard of the movie. I know it’s hard to believe but there is still a buying audience that missed the first one, and have no intention of reading the books, but now due to all the talk they are going to tune in. Those are the people they are trying to get excited. Think this time around its going o be more sophisticated. They will be stationed for whole promotion tours all cross the world. The international and the domestic audiences will get fed just enough to keep them salivating. If the long term marketing buzz world this should kick off what they have stated noticing is taking root. Previous movies that were great in push spawned likes of the Trekkies. There are a host of conventions. .

Things that have been used before that are very likely being used now. The planting of controversial gossip stories in magazines and tabloids. Managers have their client walk down any of the famous streets in Hollywood to shop. It will certainly get you pub time. Airports are a haven for photographers who camp out all day long.

The real side is that the hype hasn’t even begun. There won’t be mall tours but there will be a HUGE kickoff and the resounding. I think the marketing plans will also include an adult element as well. This is what marketing companies do and they are building a brand. That is what they are doing with each one of the actors. They are creating a brand that is unquestionable can continue for a long time afterwards. In particular, I would not be surprised to see what else is spawned out of this.

Though, I know that’s sounds callous. It’s a business. There is a philosophy that has always been true. The only kind of bad publicity any performer can get is no publicity. Successful movie making is all about big business and striking while the iron is hot.

I hate it! I mean I wish everything was a secret, just between you and me, and the whole Twilight crew, and of course Stephenie. These people are movie people, and probebly haven’t even read the books. That’s what it’s all about are the BOOKS,and these critics that will be reviewing the next 3 movies don’t even have a clue to this beautiful love story. That’s why
we all LOVE it because of the STORY not the movies.
Call me selfish, but I just wish this whole TWILIGHT thing didn’t get so big. It should be just be tween US!!!

I think Oretha hit the nail on the head with this one. But like i said in response to yesterday’s post, I think they should definitely play up some of the newer characters… Give them face time (and what beautiful faces[and bodies] they have). No, I don’t think the hype is too much. But a clear rotation of characters at the promotional events would be good.
I’m excited…. After seeing the One-sheet I’m very antsy to see the movie. It irks me that it’s still 6 months away…. exactly 6 months!! UGH!!
