TA TALKS BACK: THE HYSTERIA THAT SURROUNDS TWILIGHT

Posted July 6th, 2009 By: flick 70 Comments »

TA Fan Jennifer talks about the hysteria that surrounds Twilight, and in particular Robert Pattinson:

The Hysteria that surrounds Twilight by Jennifer.

I’m a Twilight fan. Before you read any further, I would like to point out that I, like most other Twilighters, am sane. I do not try to stalk the cast, I’m not lurking around any corners, my goal in life is not to meet the people who play Stephenie Meyer’s beloved characters. I do get excited when I see Twilight-related news, I did yell and clap the first time I saw the New Moon trailer, my books have a special place on the shelf, and I do own a poster that my husband is trying desperately to keep me from actually hanging.

I love most things pertaining to Twilight. What I don’t love is the other stuff.

By the other stuff, I mean the ridiculousness that has become the obsession with the cast. Particularly Robert Pattinson. Now, to be clear, I follow some of the cast members on Twitter. This does not mean that I search for maps of their homes or plot out ways to “bump into them” when they are out and about. (This is made easier because I doubt they visit NC much, but still.)

So why is it that some Twilight “fans”, and I use the term loosely, seem to think that it is ok to accost Robert Pattinson? In what other realm of American society is it acceptable to essentially stalk another human being? Besides that, what is it that these crazed fans expect to happen? Do you think that your eyes will meet his and he will fall deeply and insanely in love with you? Do you think that you can slip him your number and you will become the best of friends? News flash, crazies: None of that is going to happen.

The most you can or should say to him is something along these lines:
“Thank you for bringing our beloved characters to life on the silver screen.”
“I really enjoyed your work in Twilight.”

Or even…

“I think that you are absolutely beautiful.” This one should NOT be followed by any attempt to touch him. Perhaps a quick smile and then turn to leave.

Rob seems really scared lately, and rightfully so. We’ve seen what the obsession with celebrity did to Princess Diana via the paparazzi. Even if it doesn’t get to that point, those of us who are true Twilighters don’t want to see him become a recluse. (Although at this point, I wouldn’t fault him any for going that route.) Those Twilighters who are paying to go to sanctioned cast events would love to get the chance to meet the cast in a controlled situation, but the behavior of the insane faux Twi-Hards keeps those of us who know how to behave from having these opportunities.

So here’s the deal, people.

Back off. Leave him alone. Stop stalking him. Falling back on the “obsessed females just can’t be controlled” excuse just infuriates the rest of us who do know how to behave.

Has anyone heard of the Patriot Guard? They are a motorcycle group who go around protecting families of fallen soldiers whose funerals are protested by the crazy followers of Fred Phelps. Its starting to look like Rob might need a group of protectors himself. His bodyguards may not be able to smack a 19 year old female attacker, but I have the sneaking suspicion that there are more than a few of us true Twilighters who aren’t above throwing an elbow or two. No further intrusion into his life necessary, just real life superheroes waiting in the wings to thwart that which threatens he who brings Edward to life. This will probably never happen, as Summit employs a large team of burly men to protect Rob. So until we’re called into action…just leave him alone.

Talk Back to us….what do you think?

I totally agree with your comments. I am a true diehard Twilight fan but I am often embarrassed to see videos of Rob getting mobbed by fans. I think he needs his privacy and we need to respect that.

  • Genevievech81

That is what I am saying. It’s nice to see someone finally voicing this. I feel that same way. Just leave the guy alone and let us all be happy :)

  • Genevievech81

Thank you for stating this, it’s nice to see someonefinaly saying this out lout :)

  • Chelle

I wanted to reinforce what Jennifer said in her article:
The most you can or should say to him is something along these lines:
“Thank you for bringing our beloved characters to life on the silver screen.” That is what a TRUE, SANE FAN WOULD SAY.

Most of us are sane. It’s hard for us to understand what the others are thinking when they go stalking the cast. My immediate question is, how do they even have the time and resource to do that? Don’t these people have work or school? Some people just can’t seem to differentiate between fantasy and reality, that’s my only theory. Those are the same ones screaming “Edward!” when they see Rob P. on the street, ahem, his name is Rob, not Edward.

I am like Jennifer, own some Twilight merchandise, check up on this site more times than I probably should, watch the movie practically every week, love to stare at the gorgeous cast, own every book of the series, paperback, hardback, collector’s edition, etc. but really, that’s where it ends. If I ever meet any of them in person, it would be because I shelled out the $200 fee to see them in an organized fashion, not because I bought a plane ticket to NY (when I live in Calif) solely for the purpose to look for RP at the set of his movie.

  • Rachael

Well said Jennifer! I just wish that some of these ‘loonies’ would take a moment out to think about their actions and the negative effects it’s having on someone the profess to love. It makes me so angry when I read these articals and they seem to be endless. Aaaargh! Get a grip people!!!

  • shauna

i totally agree. there are a minority of people out there giving the majority of twilight fans a bad reputation…screaming, touching, stalking, you know who you are. chill out.

  • jessica

Hallelujah! I couldn’t agree with you more. I read an interview in some magazine and Robert was saying how he used to be able to go shopping with a friend or get something to eat and go unnoticed, nobody even knew who he was, and if they did, it wasn’t a big ordeal and he said that now he is very paranoid over the huge fan following that he has and that he can’t really go anywhere without a ton of fans approaching him. It’s sad because it makes me feel like he could begin to resent the fame a little bit. He seems like a very introverted person and it seems it’s taking him a lot longer to adjust to this lifestyle change. I mean, imagine what it would be like to not be able to do basic everyday things in peace. To walk outside to take out the trash and a woman jumps out of the bush and jumps on you. Not that it’s happened but come on, I’m sure that’s how he feels. It’s sad because I live in San Diego and bought tickets to Comic Con as soon as it was announced that cast of New Moon would be there (not to stalk any of them but hello, how could I not go)and my six year old daughter said, I hope Edward and Bella will be there and I said, I don’t think that’s going to happen and she asked why and I said, because some of the people who really, really like Edward kind of scare him and I don’t think he’s going to be there. I still will have some small hope but it sucks that it has to be like that but I don’t blame him either, LET THE MAN LIVE IN PEACE AND ENJOY THE RIDE!

  • oopsilovetwi

Amen and hallelujah. Now if the crazies will just listen…

  • Betty

Very good article, flick! I’ve said it before, and I will say it again. WE DON’T OWN THESE PEOPLE! They have fulfilled their jobs by bringing our favorite characters to life onscreen. Beyond that they are not accountable to us. They are entitled to live their lives just like you or I.

  • liv4twilight93

    very well said.

  • Amanda

YEAH!!!! BIG STANDING OVATION!!! ROUND OF APPLAUSE!!! BRAVO!!!!

  • Amanda

    BRAVO!

  • Angg

“Those Twilighters who are paying to go to sanctioned cast events would love to get the chance to meet the cast in a controlled situation, but the behavior of the insane faux Twi-Hards keeps those of us who know how to behave from having these opportunities.”….

I hear ya girl, I often think the SAME exact thing….sigh…

  • Jen (lovenhaight)

Thank you. Thank you very much. :)

  • anna S

Jessica, I read on imdb that Rob is scheduled to go to comicon right now (and teen choice awards), unless conflict in schedule. so you might get your luck!

It’s nice to see one of the major twilight site adress this issue. It’s really not possible to let those set stalker believe that other fans back up their behavior.

  • Jen (lovenhaight)

    Thanks for the awesome comments!

  • anto21

Hello! I’m an italian fan and I totally agree with you… I was in Montepulciano during the shooting of new Moon, I was one of the extras.. Kristen Stewart was next to me (and not only me of course) during the famous scene in the Piazza. I didn’t try (and neither the other extras) to touch her or to talk to her..everybody respected her. She was working. The same with Rob Pattinson…. Someone said that the situation in Montepulciano was crazy and the fans very agressive… I can tell you that some of them were, but many not. Many fans were quiet and respectful. Of course Rob Pattinson couldn’t go around alone, he was always surrounded by bodyguards…I am really surprised to see what’s going on the set of “remember me”…the poor guy is really mobbed….

  • http://twilightersanonymous Marianne

Great article, I agree with everything you have said. Especially about, what are the crazies expecting? That he will look into their eyes and he will fall madly in love with them. I do believe they are delusional and do think that if only he could only see “THEM”, that’s all it would take and he would realize he had just met the one girl he’s been looking for.

The most disturbing part of all this for me is that he is working on a different film. Another project and there will be more to come, hopefully unless he just can’t take it anymore. I hope not he can’t let a bunch of crazies stop him from doing what he would like to do. It must be extremely distracting and unnerving for him. He is only trying to do his job and be as good as he can be.

I don’t even know if you can categorize these people as fans there has to be another word for them, because a true fan would just watch and enjoy his work. I can’t imagine what the filming of Eclipse will bring for these actors, just having all these people plan vacations and visits to the set is totally unbelievable to me. Like I have said before I am a long distance admirer. I could never invade someone else’s space.

  • Tammy

I couldn’t agree with you more…In saying that remember the word “fan” comes from the word “fanatic”..lol..I prefer the term supporter.. I think this view would apply to all celebrities. If it weren’t for their profession no one would bother with them..They are all human beings and i have heard some say “but surely they knew what they were getting into when they chose to do that”..Humans are as unpredictable as an other animal on this earth so how can this be a true statement.

  • jlindsey6907

    Thank you!! Very well put!!

  • Jess

I agree 100%. It is absolutely outrageous how people go to such extremes. Robert Pattinson has done such an amazing job portraying a beloved character and instead of supporting him in a health way, these little girls are going crazy stalking him and jumping at him. It needs to stop, give him space. Just like all the stupid things people believe because it comes out in magazines, leave them all alone!

  • Lana

    finally… :-) a voice of sanity…

  • flare

    amen sister!

  • http://twilightersanonymous Marianne

After reading everyone else’s posts, I think that Jennifer is preaching to the choir. She needs to post this on some of the other Twilight fan sites, and believe me there are some real loons that comment on different sites. It’s still nice to read it and also see how like minded the people that visit this site are.

  • sha

Isn’t it just a lil’ out of control for all these girls to scare a grown man to death ? i don’t get it . i lovvvvveee the actors of twilight and if i were to ever be lucky enough to meet any one of them i would be a happy camper!!!! i fear that if this continues rob will go into hiding and none of us will see or hear from him again! its really sad that we as fans have to deal with insane people when it comes to these stars. stop all the over obsession and remember that they are people just like u and i and cut them some slack .they deserve to have a life too! it amazes me that some fans have to get so out of hand and come very close to stocking (last i remember there was a law against stocking in the world)for all those so called twi-hard fans with odc i think that u need to really get a life and move on and remind urselfs daily that they r people to .enjoy them from a distance and appricate that they take the time to make u happy with what they do in the films and movies we all love! so please get a life and CHILL OUT!!!!!!! i’m a true twi-hard fan and know how u should act around others which is give them their privacy and act like a normal person. i’m almost certain that ur mothers taught u some sort of manners when u were growing up!! maybe if the shoe was on the other foot u wouldn’t be pleased either about a mad mob of screamin fans running up to u bombarding u with questions and wanting to touch u . just think about someone elses feelings. for one second and then maybe u would understand what they as stars have to deal with .its great to have fans but not overly obsessed screaming fans everywhere u go .just take a deep breath and stand back and admire them and please try to use some manners when u ask for an autograph or picture with ur favorite star**** smile and say thank u. god bless everyone ;-)

  • Carla

Great article. I am new to the Twillight saga, but I have found myself very saddended by some of the things said about and done to the cast members. They are people after all.

  • anto21

Hello!I think you’re right..the hysteria that surrounds Twilight and in particular the actors is impressive. The photos of some fans mobbing Pattinson in New York are unbeliavable.I’m italian, I was in Montepulciano during the shooting of New Moon and I was an extra on the set. K. Stewart was next to me (and not only me) when they shot the scenes in the piazza. I didn’t try to talk to her or bother her (neither did the other extras), she was working and everybody respected her. The same when Rob was on the set..even if everyone was looking at him.Someone said that the situation in Montepulciano was crazy and the fan were agressive…Well some of them were, but not all of them. I can assure that many were quiet and respectful… Unfortunately because of a minority group all the fans in Montepulciano paid the consequences…. so Rob Pattinson couldn’t go around alone and was always surrounded by bodyguards…poor him , I hope that he and the rest of the cast don’t have a bad memory of their staying in italy…

  • Alexa

I loved the post…. more the part of the “poster” that the husband hates hahahahah cause I can relate 100% to that!!!

I really agree in the point on what are those crazy fans expecting? True love? Plus really how well do we actually know Robert? I mean I loved him, he is cute, good actor, but as a person I really can’t tell much, only that he smokes a lot!!!! (that I don’t like)… And is kind of funny, good musician, but not true stuff, deep stuff I mean…. so please just let him be….

    Regards…

  • Nikki

    Totally agree.

    Well said Jennifer.

In an interview Rob said a 10 year old had said she wanted to have his baby. I was like “What the?” That just isn’t right.

  • Tricia

I feel the same way!! I just read an article on facebook that was talking about him wanting to leave the US, and all the brits were talking about us “crazy Americans” Give the man his peace, and quit giving us American fans as bad name!!!

  • Alexandra

I totally agree, the whole CRAZY FAN THING is breaking rob. He almost got hit by a cab a while ago! I’ts enoaugh already. Just leave the poor guy alone.

  • Jessica

You sound just like I do.. I admitt also to having owned a couple of posters (mostly to admire that is)…but nothing more. I agree 100% that we need to respect a fellow human beings personal space. & just leave the actors alone to let them do what they know best! To bring who we love to life! To entertain us..but not to be an aide to allow for stalking or even random following. You said it right! We need to learn how to behave. Chill out…

  • http://twilightersanonymous.com/ta-talks-back-the-hysteria-that-surrounds-twilight.html Ermie

RIGHT ON!!! Wow, my sentiments exactly. THANK YOU! You are so ELOQUENT. Do you think the “crazies” will pay attention? I certainly wish they would but I doubt it. They make it difficult for those of us who do or would behave if they got the chance see Rob.

  • Robin

Very well said. I was mortified when I saw the video of Rob Pattinson trying to walk down the street and people were grabbing him and jumping on him. The poor guy is just trying to live. It amazes me that people in this world actually think this behavior towards him is okay, that they have a right to put their hands on another human being without their consent. Scary.

  • Jude

THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I couldn’t have said it better myself! All these psycho fans make the rest of us look bad. There is a huge difference between us-we have RESPECT!

  • dbrad5600

Bravo. Btw where in NC are you?

  • Emily

I completely agree with you, and if I were him, I would quit acting now and go into hiding until everyone forgets who I was. It’s sad, but true, and I fear with all of these insane people, that is exactly what he’s gonna do. I would not blame him at all.

  • Melissa

I totally agree here . The crazed fans do need to back off. I mean if they could see and feel what they are putting the cast members through.believe me when I say i absolutly LOVE the Twilight saga but im not out there making there lives pure purgatory. Poor Rob if this keeps up i dont know what to expect. but yes they all need a break from the stalking and screaming fans.Just put yourself in there shoes. I would be afraid to go out any where. You spoke your words very well thank you

  • Patti

I totally agree with everything Jennifer said and thank you Jennifer for saying it. The poor guy’s not a toy to play with, he’s a young man who has been thrust into the limelight, a young man who happens to be afraid of crowds no less, and he has to put up with this. It’s so unfair for the fans who claim to love him, to put him through this. I understand they want to be near him but for heavens sake people, back off.

  • Jen

I’m in the Triangle area. I’ll be at Southpoint the moment that New Moon opens!

  • Ash

I’m a total twilighter and I totally agree!! I’m so glad you posted this!!! THANK YOU!

  • Nene

    You said it sister…
Just so there is no confusion, Rob Pattinson is not Edward Cullen. Unfortunately, Edward Cullen is a fictional character. Asking Rob to bite you will not make you a vampire…just make you look like a complete idiot. Leave him alone…sure love him, admire his work, dream of him it that makes you feel better, but for God Sake..settle down.

  • April

I have to totally agree with you. It’s sad how Rob is getting attacked all the time. These crazy people need to back off and give the poor guy a break :(

  • edelacruz

Well said, Jennifer! I was applauding when I read your line, “Twilighters who are paying to go to sanctioned cast events would love to get the chance to meet the cast in a controlled situation, but the behavior of the insane faux Twi-Hards keeps those of us who know how to behave from having these opportunities.”

I am one of those sane fans that HAS to take “the high road” and stay away because God knows that Rob and the rest of the cast have enough craziness to deal with. I’d rather remain respectful and admire their work for what it is than get in their face and SCREAM like an IDIOT. For Pete’s sake, they can’t even walk down the street without being circled around and chased…These alleged Twilight “fans” that consciously choose to be rude, psychotic and irreverent are like vultures hunting prey (no pun intended of course). It’s sad and embarrassing.

I agree that more of this insane treatment of Robert Pattinson is going to push him into permanent seclusion. Is that what people want? For him to drop off the face of the earth? Rob doesn’t NEED to act. He’s said it millions of times, that he enjoys it, but he’d rather be a musician, producer or pianist. If people don’t start gaining some SERIOUS respect and taking control over their raging HORMONES, they will become exactly what us normal fans cannot tolerate. GET A GRIP, PEOPLE!

(((((fist in the air)))))))) I’m with you SANE Twilighters!

  • kirsten

I’m happy to accidentally on purpose elbow a rabid fan who has no manners and thinks it’s ok to grope Rob. Perhaps this is the problem, he needs female bodyguards cause let’s face it, the guys aren’t working that well.

No matter how big a fan you are, there is no excuse for bad manners. And grabbing and pulling at the object of your obsession is bad manners plus some

  • jenkins

Amen! Please let the cast live in peace.

  • kiki cullen

    AMEN!!!
    I agree with you 100%!!!
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately and it just disgusts me to see people like stalking him just so they could meet him. I mean seriously, put yourself in his shoes. Would you like it if someone was stalking you for a dang PICTURE???? Ugh, sorry, this kind of heats me up. But I seriously think that people should be logical about things like that. Its not like he’s going to fall in love with you right when he sees you (like said above in article). Just back off and give him SPACE!. I’m sure you’d have more chance of talking to him if you backed off and just made a nice, simple, compliment and then didn’t like scream or cry-or faint for that matter. I’m really glad you posted this because it addresses a real problem with some twilight “fans.”

  • Laura

Very well written….Think of it this way if it was YOUR brother, uncle, cousin, or some kind of relative how would u feel? I became a fan 1st by reading the book and then seeing the movie I do think Rob Pattinson PORTRAYS a wonderful Edward( as does the rest of this cast.) I have passed on these wonderful written books onto my s.i.l. and aunt and they have loved the books. We do think Rob is hot but we are not flying across the country to stalk him. I wonder why these people or stalkers don’t have a conscience, wouldn’t u be embarrassed to see your picture on the internet in a full all out tackle on Rob?

  • Robyn

I have to say…reading this article…it was like I wrote it myself. I couldn’t agree more! Enjoy the books, enjoy the movie…get excited when you see Twilight stuff…God knows I do….BUT LEAVE IT AT THAT! I live an hour from the city…where I know Rob is shooting a movie..do I go there? No…. please… I love the character Rob plays…..Do you girls really think that he will be Edward? I think Rob Pattinson is amazing…looking forward to his future work….so please stop hounding him so there IS future work! GREAT ARTICLE JENNIFER!

  • Lois

I totallly agree with this article. Robert getting hit by a cab because of screaming girls’ that’s just plain old stupid they’re going to kill him!! As far as my obsession goes is this: I own all the books I absolutely am in love with Edward and Jacob, not Robert and Taylor. Don’t get me wrong they did the best job an actor can do. They get my highest praise, and they are absolutely beautiful. But I know what’s what! Say one of them walks by me and I recognize them I’d probably turn around and go back the other way thats just from the shock its self. I never actually met a famous person before or gotten an autograph because I thought I was bothering them.

  • kathryn

    totally agree.

  • Cori

I totally agree! Finally someone said what everyone is feeling. Let them live their life and if you are lucky enough to meet them, don’t make an @ss out of yourself by freaking out. Take your picture or autograph and be on your way. He seems like a very humble person, so we don’t want him turning to his fans and saying that there psychotic and can’t control themselves. He’s just human, it’s okay to breath when he’s around. He’s a great actor, enjoy his work and let him be. Well said Jennifer i’m glad it’s out in the open…

  • Jennifer M

I don’t think anyone anywhere could have said it any better.

  • sioux

I totally agree..he is a human being and has a right to his privacy and respect. There is no respect amongst these fans. Understandably he is scared… so would you be with a horde of females rushing at you!! If you are a true fan…admire him and respect him..but don’t stalk him.

  • darlenecullen

The idea that Jennifer had is great. Maybe us sane Twihards,SHOULD get together and protect Rob from the crazies.I too live less than an hour from the city and I stay home looking at him on my special Rob sites. But maybe wherever he is, that group of us, that’s near him, should be called in as Robs own vigilante’s to protect him.Believe me,I would have NO problem knocking down or pushing some annoying, sicko, girl, pulling at his neck or clothes,or whatever else they’re grabbing at.ARGGGGGGGGG,DON”T WORRY ROB

  • jessica

i agree completely. i know that a lot of the stalkers who haunt rob haven’t even read the books, but just saw the movie and are obsessed with rob’s looks. are they forgetting that the books started it all? i agree with what jennifer said about “fans” – that’s what the creepy stalkers claim to be, but they really just want the autograph of a sexy actor from a popular movie. well said jennifer!

  • TinaOh

The crazy people who do run after that poor man, need to seek help. When you are stalking, chasing ect.. ask yourself, besides scaring the crap out of him, what do you hope to accopmlish? Like Jennifer said, do you think youR eyes will meet, and he will stop, and sweep you into his arms?!? Go look in a mirror and scream your head off, and then maybe you will see why he runs as fast as he can. BACK OFF & GROW UP.

As far as magazines, I will only buy cetain ones now. If any of the pics, of any of the stars, look like they were not happy to be photographed, I will not buy it. The only way the paprazzi will stop. is if WE don’t buy it!!!!!
ok I am off my soap box now!! :)

  • Twilight Mom Australia

Jennifer great article, you have written what we have all been saying here on TA for long time especially about Rob, we were ALL outraged and disgusted when he was accosted by the “crazies” in NY, we were all appalled that he was hit by a cab trying to get away from the “crazies” even though Summit was trying to down play it, he did get hurt. How many more times do we all have to write these articles here it is not getting through to the people it should… THE SCREAMING MEDIEVAL CRAZIES, AHHHHHHHHHHH…….. What to do??? How to get through to the crazies???
I am always embarrassed when I see photos and Rob being mobbed and Video of him being chased because we are all getting pigeon holed, I do not want to be associated with the screamers the stalkers and the chasers.
I am absolutely 100% besotted with Rob BUT I would never even if I were in the same town as him ever stalk him chase or scream at him I would though admire from afar ,just to see him is real life even across the street would be enough because as everyone here knows. LEAVE HIM ALONE and give him privacy. I have often thought about what would I say to him if I ever met him in an “organised situation” “ I love you” would just sound stupid and cheesy, lol. Who really knows what one would really say, it would depend on the situation. I would be too scared to make a fool of myself if I said too much , then I would not want to stare at him either that would creep him out as well. So don’t know, I’ll keep dreaming . Ah well never going to happen anyway I am across the Ocean so … I will squeal, stare, and drool just looking at his photos on the computer screen, and in movies.
I also hope that things don’t get too much for him and he withdraws from acting he is an outstanding and brilliant artist- actor- musician and to have that go to waste would be a shame.
We want him around for a long time , but happy and healthy so again I stress to his management team look him.
And to all the screamers, chasers and stalkers together with the medieval mob- BACK OFF PEOPLE.

Jennifer .Please do hang that poster, in your closet, that’s were mine is along with a few other photos of Rob. Rob’s beautiful face greets my Husband every morning when he get a shirt out for work, then poor Hubby looks at 10 photos of Rob on the fridge when he gets his milk out for his morning coffee, I have even bought photo frames put Rob in them to blend in with the Family photos, but poor suffering Hubby knows, he knows, LOL. Jenifer go on hang that poster .

  • Debbie (BzNYLady)

Bravo Jennifer. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Like you and the rest of the people here, I just wish these people who dare to call themselves a “fan” and “claim” to adore him would actually SEE what they are doing to him when they act this way. There’s a time and place for everything, and while someone is working (or trying to) OR out on his own personal time IS NOT THE TIME to do it! PLEASE SHOW SOME RESPECT and give the guy some space to breathe and just be himself!

  • Judy

I cannot imagine any true fan who would not agree with all Jennifer has said. I, like Chelle, have Twilight shirts and items, and my daughter calls me obsessed, but I would never disrepect any of the actors by infringing on their right to privacy and space. I want their experiences with Twilight to be wonderful memories, not full of fear and regret! I am going to Forks and touring the area, and it would be great if some of the cast would be there at that time, which I doubt, but I would not want to approach them in an uncontrolled situation so as to give them cause for alarm. Besides, folks these actors are not really Edward & Bella, etc. just actors bringing them to life for us as Jennifer said. Be grateful for that, but do not confuse them for the real thing. The story is fiction, even if the emotions, etc. exist, or can exist in reality. Thankfully, no vampires and such, but the romance is wonderful and something we might all want to see in our lives, but we do not obtain it by stalking innocent “strangers” which they virtually are. Transfer that interest (hopefully less wildly) to the one you care for or who cares for you. Leave the actors to live their lives. Try putting yourself in their place and maybe you could understand their feelings. Sign me -
    Another true Twilight fan!

  • Kaitlyn

THANK YOU! I totally agree. I’ve seen tons of magazines about this stuff happening to the cast (mostly Robert), wow…it’s ridiculous! Thank you for saying something, I think that if the cast has seen this, or if they will, they’ll appreciate it alot.

Way to go Jennifer, and well articulated. You have said what a lot of us have been thinking, or posting on other web sites. Unfortunately the crazies out there do not recognize themselves for what they are.

Plus, has the craziness just been heighten because NYC is so easily accessible.
It seemed to me that when they were filming New Moon that even though some people did travel to British Columbia, it was not in the droves that seem to be happening in NYC.
Granted the Paparazzi were bad in B.C. but not the fans as much. Except for those that came from elsewhere and seemed to think Rob and the cast were a tourist attraction, the locals were pretty cool about it all.
So what has stirred the pot in NYC, is it the heat and the close confines of the set to public places?
It just seems scary that someone’s (Rob’s) physical and mental well being can be a jeopardy on a daily basis. I hope this doesn’t happen in B.C. in August when they are filming Eclipse. Perhaps the Mounties will help again with security, it just seems so lame and abnormal to stalk these young actors.

I completely and absolutely agree with every issue mentioned in this article. I just have one thing to say:

Why is no one stalking Taylor Lautner?!?!?!? HE IS SO MUCH HOTTER!!!! And hes got ABS!!!!!!

    Just pointing it out. ;P

I am in complete agreement. I like Jennifer own Twilight merchandise and have been a faithful follower of Twilight since I discovered it. I am thrilled that these actors have brought these wonderful characters to life, but that is where I believe it should end. I have seen Twilight obsessed fans get out of control. I can’t blame Rob for freakin out, watching those girls go crazy would freak me out too. Jennifer I’m with you in that some of them could use an elbow or two so they don’t ruin it for the rest of us.

i agree with jennifer especially about these fans having jobs and school and for the teenage girls where are the parents? Do they not know what thier children are doing. Just leave rob alone i would really like to see more of his work but that isnt going to happen if crazed fans cant control themselves.

BRAVO!!!! VERY WELL SAID!!!!APPLAUSE!!!!!I TOTALLY AGREE WITH JENNIFER!!!!

  • XOKatrinaOX

I agree completely, some people are just freakin crazy. They literally DO stalk the cast, I am an obssessed Twilighter, trust me on that, but I don’t go on Facebook and look for Taylor Lautner’s profile, no matter how hot he is, without the extensions of course. I own all of the books, and plenty posters but i wouldn’t spend tons of money just to fly to the set of new moon and act like i should be in an aslyum!
    Nicely said jennifer.

I totally agree. Maybe some of the real fans should start banding together and start keeping the crazy’s away from the cast and most especially poor Rob. They are all still normal people who deserve privacy and space.

  • erios

amen to that sister some of these twilighter “fans” are going so over board and it is not nessucary (cnt spell)

  • Gaye
