TA TALKS BACK: WHO IS LEAH?

Posted May 26th, 2009 By: flick 26 Comments »

Ariana poses a questions for us to ponder:

Who Is Leah? by crescent (Ariana)

I’m not talking about the actor. Honestly, I could care less who plays her as long as it’s not Vanessa Hudgens. But that isn’t my point. What I want to know is who can see Leah’s side and empathizes with her.

Think about it. First, your boyfriend and true love disappears for a week, comes back and dumps you for your own cousin, pactically sister, without an explanation. Living through that is hard enough without the added twists her story gets.

Then about two years later, you phase as well and learn the secret. But when that happens, your father dies of a heart attack. Charlie may have believed it was how he ate, but Leah knew better. Her father died of shock that she became a wolf as well.

What about pack life? You now know why Sam dumped you for Emily but you can’t help but want him back. To make matters worse, you can read his thoughts and he can read yours. You both want to be together and you both know you can’t. Kind of like star-crossed lovers that don’t end up together. You can see the ties he has to Emily and he can see how much you want to be with him. I forgot to mention, there are several other wolves that can read your thoughts and Sam’s thoughts as well. So now you get to listen to commentary from that pack.

And then there are the unknown questions about your future. None of the elders know if you will resume aging once you stop phasing. You may want to be a mother, but you don’t know if you can. And then you don’t know if you have the ability to imprint so you don’t want to get involved with anyone because you don’t want them to be hurt as you were. There are just so many unknown possibilities because you’re the first “girly wolf” in known history.

I personally don’t blame Leah for being a bit of a b***h at times. I feel like she has the right too, she has a lot to deal with. Both emotional problems and guilt. So just give Leah some slack, she’s not all bad.

Talk Back to us….what do you think?

I do see your point. Maybe SM will continue the series with Leah. She has definately been through so much. I am positive that I would probably be just as bitter.

  • JESSICA

I agree with the comment you made about cutting Leah some slack, she definitely does have reasons for acting the way she does. The fact that she left Sam’s pack to join Jacob in protecting the Cullens shows that she would just rather not have anything to do with Sam, because it hurts too much. However, I’m a little irritated when she doesn’t get over her dislike of the Cullens, even when Esme tries to send food and clothes for her. I guess we can’t have it all rainbows and unicorns though. I’m definitely happy with the way the story ends but I seriously hope that Stephenie will decide in the future to continue Esme and Jacobs story? PLEASE!

  • gc

its totaly true whn you hear her story like that its heartbeaking! god shes been through sooo much!!!!! sooo yeah cut her some slack!she has the right to be angry and frustrated I know I would be if I was her!

  • Jen

I can definitely see why Leah’s got kind of a rough personality. Anyone who has ever had an ex date a close friend should understand the horrible pain of those situations, without even factoring in Leah’s problem of it being family AND the whole telepathy issue. I think that the older readers can probably empathize with Rosalie and Leah’s issues with childbearing a little better than younger readers can, so that softens me up toward both of them a little bit.

I do think there is one particular thing that Leah does that is inexcusable, even based on her past history, but I can’t hate the character for it. She’s just got her own mess to work out, and everyone has lost their temper at inappropriate times before. (Maybe not verbally attacking a sick pregnant 17 year old, but still…)

  • Cathy

I also felt terribly for Leah in the novels. She truly did get the short end of the stick all the way around. I also appreciated her standing up for Jacob in BD. Let me be clear, I definitely wanted Bella to end up with Edward and Jacob was on my nerves more often than not, but Bella did need to get a sense of perspective from someone. Maybe she was harsh, and maybe during a lifesucking pregnancy was NOT the time to do it, but it was nice that Leah had Jacob’s back.

  • RawSugar

woah…I didn’t know Harry died because of that reason. Guess I never put two and two together.

  • Ashley

I agree that Leah has the right to be upset with everything thats gone on in her life and she doesnt know how to handle it or really have anyone at that matter to talk to that will understand. Well except for Jacob. However, she gave up fighting for Sam and Jacob still hadn’t given up on Bella at that point. Then on the flip side Leah should understand why things are the way they are because of her heritage. Why her and Sam cant be together and that she should of tried to make it eaiser on everyone since they all shared thoughts. It’s not Sam’s fault they cant be together it’s the way their heritage was. Even though she still has every right to be upset because of the events tat took place she should of stilltrid to move on with her life.

  • creamy

Leah did get the shaft over the deal with Sam. But, later when she became a werewolf, and all was explained, it seems she would have let it go. Move on. If you have to move away.

Of course I think she was the lucky one, not being stuck with Sam. After Rosalie he was my least favorite character in the entire series. He lost control, severely disfigured Emily, and never stopped blaming the Cullens. What a complete bag of garbage he was.

  • Erin

I can understand Leah, I would be bitter/hurt beyond repair… What I don’t understand, though, is that she never liked Bella. Bella was never cruel to her or even distempered – she had sorrow for her when her father died and felt for her when she found out that Leah became a werewolf. And it’s not like Leah was ever interested in Jacob, so that’s not a valid reason.
Is it or was it because Bella loved a Cullen and she viewed the Cullens the same way (for different reasons) that Sam did? Blaming them for her lost love, and since Bella loved the Cullens, it put her in the same camp?
Sorry, I just never quite understood that one…

  • love him

I totally agree, poor Leah gets dumped by her boyfriend for her COUSIN!!! So sad. But also she should get over it.

  • Tayra

I agree 100%. A lot of people don’t like Leah,But I think is just like people not liking Rosalie. If you don’t put yourself on their shoes, you really can’t understand it,When the only thing you have ever wanted is exactly the one thing you can’t have, that is bound to make you bitter and angry.Leah just like Rosalie are examples of really strong women and maybe they should move on from their broken desires, but people should remember that moving on is easier said than done.

  • creamy

On the point on why Harry had a heart attack, how was that conclusion reached? I don’t recall anything even hinting that was the cause.

I do remember when Billy Black had everyone over for a spaghetti dinner, it was mentioned that Sue tried to coax Harry into eating something green to help his cholesterol problem. I felt that was a setup for the heart attack.

I certainly could have missed the hint, but would like to know what it was.

  • rios25

to be honest i can totally relate to what Leah goes threw for the simple fact that I too have had my heart broken by the one I loved. meaning I have had my love fall for my bestfriend (who was/is like a sister to me cause we grew up together) and still had to be there for the both of them.

Im trying my hardest to find a way to show the crew for eclipse that i would be good for playing Leah since I have been there before.

  • Dani

Leah deserves our pitty because had it not been for the transformation she would still be with Sam. You just can’t shut love off when you know the other person still loves you, but loves another as well.

Also I really felt sorry for Jacob. He did nothing wrong but be there for Bella whenever she wanted him to be. She really did lead him on. I love the whole story, but I would love to see a happy ending for Jacob. I mean, I hope the Twilight saga continues on, but maybe more of Jacob’s story. But hey thats me….I am a wolf lover…..

  • creamy

Dani: Jacob is totally and completely happy. When he imprinted he lost all love for Bella except as a friend. He is delirious he is so happy.

And as for him doing nothing wrong, he completely ignored anything and everything Bella told him concerning her love for Edward. She only wanted to be friends, he wanted more. He gave no consideration to the fact SHE wanted Edward. He glossed over everything in pursuit of what he wanted.

  • kelly

Well said!!!!! I really never thought to much about Leah before, but now that you put it in perspective, the poor thing has all rights to be b!tchy!!!! cant blame her at all!

  • kijo921

CREAMY!!! You’re putting up too much of a fight here! Don’t make it so obvious that the story could actually be FINAL! Some of us WANT AND NEED Stephenie to continue this saga… even if it continues as a spin-off! I’m Team Edward all the way but there are still many thought-provoking questions still lingering at the end of BD.

Also, after reading BD for another go-round… I kind of like being in Jacob’s head even if he did get annoying at times!

Anyway, this is TATB is about Leah, but I can’t say anything more than what’s already been said.

  • Julie

I definaltly agree with you, and I feel so bad for Leah! I wish she had imprinted on someone in Breaking Dawn, and Seth too…they seemed to be the only ones who didn’t get a happy ending. Maybe she coulda imprinted on Mike or someone from Bella’s school! haha wow…scary thought. But I really hope Vanessa doesn’t play her too…ugh, please don’t ruin Twilight with High School Musical actors PLEASE!

  • Annalena

I have always loved Leah. It’s nice to see someone else defending her. I’m sure if you were nice to her, she would be nice to you, but no one gives a damn about her.

    TEAM LEAH!

  • patty

I think Leah needs to be nice but I understand her pain. I think Sam no logners lvoer because he now lvoes Emily but he still cares about her. and feels sad that the s cna’t find someone

  • creamy

kijo921: Please believe me, I WILL sign a petition in blood if it would bring Stephenie back to writing. Possibly even offer my first born as evidence of this desire.

I did not mean to cut short any possible future storyline. However, I just could not sit quietly as someone was under the impression Jacob was a sad sack because he no longer loved Bella. I agree it helped to see Edward from Jacob’s perspective. As Edward was still an adversary until Renesmee was born, it was something of an unvarnished view. I can think of nothing I would want more than to have the saga continued. With possible conditions. I read on Stephenie’s site she wanted to write from Leah and/or Bree’s POV. ???? I want Bella and Edward and the rest of the Cullens. And, I suppose I could dredge up some interest in a continuation of Jacob and Renesmee. She also said she wanted to write more on either Max and/or J. Jenks. Again, ?????

Of course Stephenie will write as she pleases. It’s been glorius so far, but still, I want Cullens. I feel confident Stephenie is aware there can be more to the story. Peace pipe??

  • Kai

I think that with everything that happened to Leah she has a right to act the way she does and the only reason she yelled at bella was because she saw and felt the pain that was in jacobs, she saw everything the way he did. She had enough emotions about sam and emily maybe it was just her breaking point.

I hope the SM does continue writing more twilight stories on all or any of the characters each of them have a story and every story would be interesting. But i am pulling for more on Leah’s story and her future.

  • caitlyn

I see your point, I’ve always felt bad for Leah. I’ve always loved her character. I really would love if SM would make a story just about the pack and stuff like that. Like the whole soap opera thingy. Oh and I thought Harry died because his body was trying to go thought the change of becoming a wolf.

  • aleeexxis;

I was hoping that Leah would end up with Jake in the book two; Jake. I like Leah, & I completely agree with you.

  • aida.m.go.go

I reallly REALLY REALLY want to have closure to Leah’s story. I feel for her. She’s just had a crappy ending! Right when she found someone who understood (Jake) there goes Bella popping out Renesmee and taking away from her the only soul in the world who could comprehend her.

I really wanted Leah and Jacob to get together in the end but weird, and sort of disturbing, fate played it otherwise.

I don’t need for SM to continue with a book, I simply want (and need) to know what happens to Leah afterwards.

Hey, but there’s still Embry available! lol awww!

  • Rose

i can totally understand how she feels, when i see her view of things. She must hav been through so much.

Having no privacy when being a werewolf and having to deal with so much of the supernatural. in the first three books, we don’ know much about her side and find it hard to see her as a human.

With sam her true first love is like bella losing edward because he’s a vampire (similar story) we see bella’s pain and leah was probably feeling the same.
