TA TALKS BACK: WHAT ABOUT BREAKING DAWN?
TA TALKS BACK: WHAT ABOUT BREAKING DAWN?
TA fan Queen Bella has posed the question, with all the hype relating to New Moon and Eclipse, what about Breaking Dawn??
With New Moon set to be released this year and Eclipse on the horizon…the next question on viewers’ (and readers’) minds is…what about Breaking Dawn? I personally think that Summit is going to do a LOT of editing to keep their pre-teen fan base intact. Breaking Dawn as a novel was such a huge leap from the other three books in terms of adult concepts and ideas, and Stephenie Meyer admitted to having toned it down from what she had originally written as a final sequel (which at that time was to be the only sequel…instead of a saga.)The Twilight movie was geared towards a young audience, mainly girls in junior high. I felt so out of place in the movie theater with my boyfriend…here we were in our twenties, and there was a gaggle of pre-teen girls in Team Edward shirts shrieking about how hot Robert Pattenson was. What will be these girls’ reaction if the honey moon scene from Breaking Dawn is not only kept in the movie adaptation…but more so…visually created for them to see on the screen?
Summit is going to have a big issue on their hands seeing as how a large part of the book is based on the outcome of Bella and Edward’s honeymoon. Even if they censor it for younger audiences, the premise is going to be there…a seventeen year old and an eighteen year old about to have a baby. These are the heroes of these girls…they want to be like them. Are they going to want to have babies like them, too? This will no doubt be the question on their parents’ minds, yet this is too big of an issue to leave out of the movie. Unless they plan to completely deviate from the storyline, they will have to include the concept of teenage pregnancy, for better or for worse.
Once Summit is able to resolve this issue, they still have the issue of a very brutal and graphic pregnancy on their hands. Older viewers will be excited about the action, the suspense, and dare I say it…the gore. Even as written in the book, it is a bit overwhelming and sickening. Will Summit tone it down for their target audience, and risk losing the chance to make viewers really understand what Bella is going through? I think they will. To include the pregnancy as written in the book, would turn Breaking Dawn into a horror flick.
Regardless of the two major issues regarding the transition from book to movie, I think that Summit is going to have a great film on their hands. It’s told from two different points of view (which I think can be done successfully albeit may confuse viewers if not done properly), has suspense, strong emotion, and the coming together of different creatures from different parts of the globe. It is going to be visually stimulating and a great way to end the movies on a positive note. From the very beginning, there is page-turning action. This will probably end up being the lengthiest movie of the four, but with good reason…it’s filled with juicy plots. Juicy plots that Summit would have to be crazy to cut out, since in the end they all come together to resolve our hero and heroine’s story. Unfortunately for Summit, this could make for a movie budget and length that is rivaling the later Harry Potter movies. Will it be worth it? I’d more than willingly sit in the theater all night watching Breaking Dawn if it came down to it.”
Talk Back to us….what do you think?

“Even if they censor it for younger audiences, the premise is going to be there…a seventeen year old and an eighteen year old about to have a baby. These are the heroes of these girls…they want to be like them….this is too big of an issue to leave out of the movie. Unless they plan to completely deviate from the storyline, they will have to include the concept of teenage pregnancy, for better or for worse.”
WITH THIS I AGREE. I will firstly admit I am a hardcore twilight fan, 16 almost 17. And quite frankly, from what I’ve heard a lot of younger people have read the books (preteens i guess). How WILL Summit do that without changing it too much?
“…they still have the issue of a very brutal and graphic pregnancy on their hands.”
ENOUGH SAID…how is that going to work out? Although I would love to see it for what it was (more or less), I just don’t think they’ll go that far.
“This will probably end up being the lengthiest movie of the four…plots that Summit would have to be crazy to cut out…Will it be worth it? I’d more than willingly sit in the theater all night watching Breaking Dawn if it came down to it.””
SAME HERE. I would have NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER with sitting for a long movie if they did it justice!!
I think they should make it.. yeah they will have to tone down the honeymoon scenes but the pregnancy thing is no worse than some of the things u see in tv.. I mean u see it everywhere, and I don’t think it would be any more of a horror than reading it.. plus even tho they are teens, they still graduated and got married first.. so it’s not like a bunch of high schoolers runnin around having sex.. they are husband and wife.. who cares about the fact that they are still teenagers.. They are in love, graduated and married!! I would hate it if they didn’t make the movie cause of the “wrong example” cause if people look at the facts it could actually be more of an inspirational movie to encourage teens to graduate, and get married before having sex and getting pregnant..
I think the talk now of the fact that Bella gets pregnant is pointless. Everyone that is interested has already read it in the book. So what is the big deal about putting the fact that teenagers have a baby? I don’t get it.
(spoilers for those suckers who haven’t finished the series) Why not do it? Is the question I ask… We have and will put up with all the teeny bopper nonsense to get to the meat of the story the ending. And what’s so wrong with it being a little gory? It being vampire series… I want the gore. I was depressed SM didn’t kill anyone off at the end and that it didn’t turn into a bloodfest. But I admire the mental battle she created so it made the book better. I agree with you… it can be pulled off and Summit would be idiots not to cash in.
As far as the teen pregnancy/marriage debate… These so called innocent teens have seen much worse and its up to the parents/guardians to restrict the kids from what they see… not the film company. These kids have already read the books and have the images in their head… too not adapt it to film would be ridiculous. The sanctity of marriage has already been destroyed and I don’t think twilight promotes anything like that I think the readers understand the relationship between the two and the maturity they both have although Bella makes me wonder sometime….lol
My vote is make it and do it right.
after reading breaking dawn and thinking of the movie… i almost saw it as two if not three movies…but if it is only one.. i could sit there for 4 hours if that was how long it was… after twilight… all i could think of…it is over.???? that was not long enough..there was so much more i wanted to see…. ;o)
On IMDB it says Breaking Dawn will come out on 2013 and Robert Pattinson mentioned the movie in an interview at the Oscars so I’m hoping it’s all true. I do think they will maybe make it into two movies or it will be the longest one since almost nothing can be cut out. And about the fact that it’s teenagers having a baby and the honeymoon and everything well the movie will most likely have another rating because of this but its part of the book, the whole book is their married life so I don’t think its wrong because yes they are teenagers but they waited until been married to sleep together so parents shouldn’t be too worried.
I think a lot of things can be implied and not shown so if you’ve read the book you can still use your imagination to see the visuals - during the birth only show head shots and take us into bella’s blackness its not necessary to see the blood to know the pain of it if it is talked about early on -
With the teen pregnancy, they do get married before they have sex and get pregnant so I see it as better than the Secret Life of the American Teenager - it’s showing the responsibilities of being married and what comes with the territory of sex
I don’t know how Renesmee will come out tho, it could be great or awkward - plus are they even making this one?
I think it can be done tastfully… it’s not like they have to show them having sex. The book doesn’t even do that - we know it happened, but she didn’t have to describe it word for word.
And it’s true - they’re married. Sure Edward is “17″, but technically he’s a lot older. And Bella is a legal adult who has graduated from high school. She got married with Charlie and Renee’s blessings… reluctant blessings, but blessings all the same.
And again, with the birth - they don’t have to show anything. There are ways they can portray what happened through dialogue and camera angles that don’t show everything.
They can do it. And I hope they do!
UGH! Excuse my rant.
I am very tired of the little 8 and 9 year olds obsessing over Twilight. I do not believe they are true fans and really want to give them a whallop! I hope the get the crap scared out of them at Breaking Dawn. That is all.
I don’t think that the factor of teenage pregnancy will be a major issue, in fact if they stayed true to the book, it might steer the younger audience away from “wanting to be cool” like Edward and Bella and have babies so young. There’s also the fact that Edward and Bella were married before having the baby.
um ok about the 17 and 18 yr. old having a baby, THEY ARE MARRIED!!!! sheesh i think it promotes absitinence, untill your married. so the books is great and it think that its fine the way it is.
I honestly don’t think by them having a baby at 17 and 18 is so bad.
It would be very dumb for them to not make the movie because
Of something like that.
I don’t think teens are looking up to them
And saying “oh i wanna have a baby now, just because of twilight”
No they look up
To them because of the love that’s between them. Enough Said.
And with the honeymoon scene, it shouldn’t be so hard,
In the book Stephenie didn’t say ” we started having sex”
She didn’t make a scene of sex in the book, until Bella’s a vampire,
So pretty much all we would see in the honeymoon scene is
Edward without a shirt in the water, so what?
They put naked girls in PG13 movie’s all the time.
It would be very wrong of summit if they did not
Make the last movie. It would be like an unfinished book
That you never get to read. Of course we have read the book,
But i think the movie is just as important.
With Robert Pattinson mentioning BD at his MTV Oscar’s interview. I can now die a happy 32 yr.old! I am so glad they will be doing this movie. It would be suicide for Summit not to. Rob also mentioned despite having a lot of work ahead of him with NM & Eclipse he’s grateful for the work since there are so many unemployed actors right now.
Summit can make this film tasteful, still exciting even with a PG-13 rating. I.e.horror flicks as of late,”The Unborn”, etc, all with the same rating. BD is my favorite book of the series. It could easily be 2 films. They could do part 1 up till Nessie’s birth, then part 2 with the 2nd Bella chapter as she is reborn a vampire. It almost splits the book directly in half. Or if they do a 3 hour plus saga ala ‘Lord of the Rings’, I think we can all “endure” sitting in the theater that long! More please! We don’t have to see the “Edwardian Section” drop and bite for every gory bite, it could be like the ballet montage in ‘Twilight’ where Edward sucks out the venom. Which is my favorite scene in the movie. I am sure they will not disappoint us fans. Hey we have a few more years of Twilight Saga movies to look forward to how wonderful is that!
Summit needs to wipe those dollar signs from its eyes and mature. Twilight is such a good series that to try and simply please tween girls with the films does not do it justice–and leaves a majority of the more dedicated fans (who are in it for more than just Robert Pattinson) disappointed. Making the films a laughinstock just for money and sucking the meat out of the plots will only backfire in the end.
This is the first time i have ever commented about twilight on a website, but i feel very strongly about this issue. I REALLY dont want then to water any scenes down. everyone is thinking about about the young teens but what about the older audience. I feel a little let down about SM leaving parts out of the book so i hope it dosen’t go any further. Simple solution, put the certificate up for the final film. Even Harry Potter did that. If parents allow their young children to watch it then thats fine and they wont be able to blame the company. Does anyone see my point at all?
Thanks Stephanie for making the point about Bella and Edward being married.
So what if she gets pregnant? If that was a problem do you think Stephenie would have included it? And not only included it, but having the baby was the focal point of the entire book!
As for their honeymoon, for crying out loud, are you expecting graphic sex scenes? They weren’t in the book, not that Summit isn’t above creating content that didn’t exist. But, they are married, they are legal adults and then some, and so what is the problem? This is not a Disneyesque movie. Thank goodness.
I believe Stephenie wrote that the series progressed and moved beyond Young Adult. Dialogue, acting, suggestion, direction, all of these things can create a scene that portrays what is in the book without being too graphic. If Summit and whoever is the director “dumb down” this movie for a young audience, they will be shooting themselves in the foot.
PAY ATTENTION SUMMIT. Know who the audience is. The Twilight series did not conquer the world because of a screaming teen fan base. It goes way beyond that. Lots and lots of fans are adult. Please don’t screw this up!!
By the time Breaking Dawn is released in theaters all of the teeny-boppers who will have followed the Twilight Saga obsessively will be 5 years older. Today’s 14 year olds swooning over RPatz will be 19 and, well, my still be swooning but won’t be be as impressionable as they are now.
If Summit was smart they would change the rating to NC 17 (or something similar) and let the director/cast/crew have a field day with the material. Then parents would have direct control over whether or not they allowed their ‘children’ to see it…while surely raking in the revenues!
You all did read BD; they are married when Bella has a completely intimate relationship with Edward and thus they are a married couple having a baby. . . Also, another reference made in the book they are both ‘old’ souls!!! Which means they may be technically 17 and 18, but in truth they have more maturity than some 40 year old ‘real’ people that I know! As was stated by someone above; I have to also agree that TV shows expose far worse. . . Think about it!
hopefulyl they dont tone it down. parents will jsut have to be informed. keep in mind it’s after their marriage so its all good!
i’m for cutting breaking dawn into 2 parts (part1+2, then part3). imagine the freakin’ cliffhanger!
Stephenie did mention on her site that she thought BD should be two movies. Let’s all hope she has enough clout to make that happen.
The book just has so much in it. I am all for two movies. Jus think about it!!!
Just a note on the ages: Bella is 18 years and 11 months old when she and Edward marry. She turns 19 four days after Renesmee is born.
I think they will tone down the gore, especially the delivery, but I think that the whole teen pregnancy thing can be done. Remember, that Bella and Edward are mature, and they’re married. I think that makes it different than two kids who get pregnant on accident.
I really hope they make Breaking Dawn. Maybe in 2 movies?
I think them making breaking dawn will be fine. I mean fans now are like 15+ but by the time Breaking Dawn is released they’ll be MUCH older. So idk I think it wouldn’t be a big deal.
OKAY COME ON……
I am ao annoyed by this, If they dumb down the movie for pre-teens who have already read the book and obviously already know what happens I will be very upset. I am 22 and I read all four books in two weeks, i loved the movie and I really hope that they do make Breaking Dawn but I do hope they stay very true to the book and as graphic as they possibly can make it, it the parents job of these little girls to monitor what they watch I hope it doesnt ruin this for the rest of us….. I would be very sad if they dont stick to the book! ( and no teen pregnancy cautions popping up in it either please!)
I think if anything will be cut from the movie it will be a lot of the storyline told from Jacob’s POV. To me that was the longest part of the book. I’ve reread it now but the first time through I skipped a lot just because it seemed to drag on. In order to keep a PG-13 rating they will have to tone down the gore so that it is not so graphic.
I personally hope they leave out the part of Jacob imprinting on Nessie because as a mother it really creeped me out. With this movie I will definitely have to go and see it before I let my oldest daughter go and by the time it comes out she will be a teenager.
I am a 33 yr old mom and I have read all four books and was intending on letting my 11 year old read them until I got into Breaking Dawn. A little on the gratuitous side when it comes to the sex and the pregnancy. My decision. However, as a mom, I really don’t have an issue with what happens because Eclipse burns it into us that they NEVER consumate their relationship until they are married which should soothe the minds of some parents.
I see teen moms every day in my job and I have NOT seen an influx of “Renesmee”’s yet. Teen moms have a tendancy to name their kids after characters or people they look up to. I see lots of “Kimora”’s! I’ll give it till June or July cause the book will have been out for nine months by then….LOL!
The bad thing is though, Stephenie basically wrote an R-Rated book in all technical terms. Unless we wanna see Stephenie at the premieres, they are going to have to tone it down to at least a STRONG PG-13. I’m all for cutting the blood drinking!! Just gives me the chills thinking of Bella lounging on the couch sucking down a big gulp cup full of blood! I just don’t hope they rush into it like they are New Moon and Eclispe.
Of course,JMHO…..
TO KITTY & Creamy
I am so happy you said what you said, this book was not intended for little girls, and i hope everyone at summit takes point of this! hopefully they make the movie and the script is true to the book, and to all the people who have daughters and think they should water down the scene’s here’s a thought dont let them watch it if your not comfortable with it! I am a mother myself of a 2 year old BOY ( thank god)and if I didnt want my child to watch something he wouldnt be watching it,some people need a reality check!
I do not understand all of this “teenage” sex and parents stuff. Yes, Edward and Bella are 17 & 18 but the are MARRIED before they have sex and before they become parents.
They wait for all of this until they have married and that is emphasized in the book.
The entire saga emphasizes abstenance until after marriage. Has no one been paying attention to this fact? It shows the difficulty of this but none-the-less it re-enforces this belief.
I personally will be completely appalled if they censor out the honeymoon in breaking dawn, that is honestly one of the books i’m looking forward to the most to be made into a movie simply because all of the sexual tension in the books is finally resolved in that novel. And sure it’s teenagers having sex, but MARRIED teens! and that’s the whole point of abstinance correct? No sexual intercourse until marriage??? I think if anything it will teach how easily pregnancy can happen, and that sex should not be taken lightly at all, which is exactly what the book does.
Also it will COMPLETELY botch the plot line, of the entire book if they decide to cut out the two of them having sex. I’m personally hoping that the scenes are “sexed” up if you will, as I was personally dissapointed in teh scenes in the book. And if they skip the sex scenes completely in the movie I will definitely be walking out that second!
I think they should split it into 2 books. Stephenie Meyer has already said that she knows right where to cut it off in the 4th book. I say if the actors are willing, they should totally consider splitting it into two. Summit I’m sure wouldn’t mind either. It’s guaranteed money for them, right? But, I totally agree. They can’t cut too much out or it messes up the entire story. At the same time, I don’t think they can make it rated R, not only for their fan base, but I don’t think Stephenie would allow them to. So, they’re going to have to be creative. I’m sure they’ll figure out a way with Stephenie and Melissa working together. My only hope is that they at least make the film(s) and that the actors will not be Twilighted out and will consider coming back to finish the Saga.
MAKE BREAKING DAWN INTO A MOVIE SUMMIT!!!!
It’s a no brainer that Breaking Dawn will undoubtedly be the BEST movie out of all the Twiligh Saga. Yes, its going to have more adult undertones, some definite gore, and lots of action. But, come on! The director can’t hold back on this film. The Harry Potter franchise has gotten much MUCH more darker with each successing film, why not with this saga? I think Summit will gross even more money, because older men and women will want to see it. That was the one complaint I heard from many men about Twilight, that it wasn’t even scary. Well, if Breaking Dawn is done right, it will KNOCK THEIR SOCKS OFF! I can’t wait, seriously cannot wait for this transition from book to film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they have to do breaking dawn! i think that if people have already read it what’s the biggy if they make it into a film- everyone knows whats happening anyway!! i cannot wait to see it when they make the movie! it will be sooooo good!
For me personally, BD does not need to include much of Jacob’s storyline. We just need a few highlights of how lonely Jacob feels, reaction to Bella’s pregnancy and the whole splitting of the tribe. That whole extra set of wolf characters works well in the book, but we have yet to see how captivating the tribe is on screen. Edward, Bella and the Cullens have much more draw and deserve more screen time. I don’t want to see two BD movies made and draw the saga out even longer. Harry Potter pulls off the long saga with a huge coming of age story. Twilight doesn’t have so far to go to wrap up the main conflicts.
The entire problem with the Twilight movie is that they did make it for too young of an audience. Even SM has said that she wrote this for herself as a mother of 29. Just because it is about a high school girl does not necessarily mean that it should be read by that age group. My opinion (as a mother of 2, age 27) is that the books should not be read by junior high (and younger!) girls.
Summit should aim a little higher and make movies for the older fanbase. Young girls are fickle and by the time the next movie comes out they will be chasing the next trend. I am so tired to reading articles of how R.P. is the star of pre-teens everywhere. I think that the most devoted of fans are the older fans who will not desert the franchise on a whim when something “cooler” comes around.
Just my 2 cents
I work part-time at a movie theater selling tickets, and your right about one thing, there are alot of pre-teens that come in and screem when Edward hits the screen because he’s so hot. But the vast majority of people purchasing tickets to Twilight are 20-somethings. With alot of mother/daughter combos thrown in there too.
I think that the audience would be able to handle the “pregnancy” aspect of Breaking Dawn, heck one of the biggest movies of last year was Juno, which was all about a pregnant teenage girl.
If the studio follows the authors lead in this…I think it will be fine. In the “water” sceen, Bella disrobes gets into the water where Edward already is…and they move to deeper water. It’s all emplied. Even the “breaking furniture” and “feathers” is emplied, we don’t see the details. Which should work for the movie as well. Bella’s “illness” prior to birth also isn’t that graphic as to prevent being seen on screen.
The big question and challenge will be the actual birth. And while the book was pretty detailed, even most of that could be done. If you shoot it and “hear it” from Jacob’s perspective, you can understand what’s going on without having to actually “see it”. Even though I believe most of it would still be ok to shoot and maintain the PG-13 rating.
I really hope the movie adaptation will stick to the book.
It would be too sad to reshape the movie because of the young audience. Let’s not forget that by the time the movie will be out the audience will be older. And besides those teenagers have surely read the books so what the fuss about all this?
Because of the marriage-sex-baby thing? Come on! Is puritanism so strongly coming back?
Bella and Edward’s relationship has grown throughout the story, it is normal that their love is explored in every possible way.
And we are also talking about vampires and blood, it has to be gore.
I hope Summit will give the book the right justice it deserves. And let’s not forget the adult readers too!
Okay, first of all Bella is 18, almost 19, when she and Edward go on their honeymoon. Second, they are married and graduated from highschool! Third, all these teenage girls who READ the books have already READ the story. Why would seeing it in theater be much worse then them already reading it? I think if they can handle the book they can certainly handle te movie. This whole argument makes absolutely no sense. Yeah, they can tone it down a bit but lets remember that they did add a scene into the kissing scene in Twilight where Bella was in underwear and a T-Shirt and Edward pushing her down and getting on top of her!!!!! Does anyone else realize this? They could make it more of a Thriller rated movie than a horror for the birth and that would do. Lets not get too carried away here… On a better note, I would be in the theater every chance I got if this movie is made following the books actual storyline.
I am 14 years old… however I read mature books for my age and I watch the twilight movies not because I’m obsessed with Robert Pattinson (although I am kind of) but because the twilight saga is a really good series. THAT’S the reason why I am a fan and I am sure a lot of teens agree with me. Second of all breaking dawn should definately be made into a film because otherwise the saga is incomplete. A lot of PG-13’s (or 12A’s in the UK) have sex scenes that don’t show everything and nor do they need to.. stephenie meyer didn’t write anything that did so why should they? The film is obviously about two MARRIED teenagers who love each other and wait until they are married before they have sex, which as a teen who wants to abstain myself i really admire, and please, cut teenagers some credit, we are not going to run off and try and get pregnant just because Bella Swan did. I don’t think they should include so much of jacob’s story.. as much as i love jacob and the wolves, and found the jacob’s chapter titles amusing, we don’t need that long, drawn out process nor do we need to make more than one film for BD. Have some common sense, Summit, and MAKE BREAKING DAWN!
I totally agree Breaking Dawn needs to be longer and maybe even rated R or possibly NC-17. By the time it comes out the younger girls watching will be of age. The content in Breaking Dawn is so dynamic in its original form if you tone it down you lose the effect of the story and how it was originally intended. If they are just gonna play down the movies for sake of teenage viewers they shouldn’t make it. I personally would rather it not be made than see i dumbed down version of the best book in the series. I loved this book i could hardly put it down and bella’s pregnancy all the way to when she wakes up after the transformation were the best parts of it.
A couple of points that I agree with regarding what Kelly wrote:
Even though the birth scene in the book was very graphic and traumatic, that was really a just a side scene. They can manage to have a dramatic birth scene (as several have already mentioned), have the baby and some of the resulting gore, without blasting us all out of the theatre. The birth scene is not the most important in the book. Make lots of suggestion with sound, and “blood effects” and get past it. The parts of the book before the birth and after are what we want to see.
I am also interested in seeing Edward collapsing when he is explaining the problem to Jacob. I want to see Edward stressed out over thinking he is going to lose Bella.
There is more than enough heavy duty material before and after the birth scene to make this movie great.
As for other adult content, once again, this is not a teen novel. Stephenie said this. Also, she said (on her site, I think) that she had them tone down some of the heavy kissing scenes in Twilight so they could build up to them in later movies. She meant for the relationship to progress. That means more intimacy with each book.
Again, SUMMIT, get it right. I too will be in the theatre multiple times if you do this right. If not, it’s your funeral!
Breaking Dawn will be the best of all the movies IF they leave it as told in the story. They will probably have to change the rating to R because of it. If they hold back anything even the gory details of her pregnancy, it definitely won’t be the same. As for Rob & Kristen reprising their roles again, it is going to be electtrifying to see as Edward and Bella again. This story is the highlight of their relationship…it is what Bella has worked for since she met him (not the preganancy) and fell in love with him. The surprise of her pregnancy just adds a little more to the storyline. If Summit spares no $$$$ to this movie, it should be the best.
i dont think the jacop point of view is that important, so i dont think his point of view shoule be spoken, they could fit it in but not just for him, there is 2 many people who are not a fan of him, it would not be wise to put his part in, i cant stand jacop and i am one of those millions of girls who will throw popcorn at the screen, once jacop face shows up
I love breaking Dawn and i dont fully agree with this whole artical, it sounds like a parent wrote this, im 18 and i disagree with some of this
I agree! the book was great but how are they going to finish the saga? are they going to end it at eclipse or are they just going to risk it with the way it is?
Actually, I think Summit is starting to grasp the fact that the success of the books and the movie has crossed over. If you look at some of the merch they are creating now it is a little more on high end expense than just your typical t-shirt. I also believe they are goingt o stick with it the way it is and not shy away from shooting the scenes involving Bella’s excitement.
I really cant understand the whole hype of the pregnancy and gore… firstly we have 12 and 13 year olds in the news recently giving birth!!! secondly this is a vampire movie….
This film has grabbed the attention of all ages not just the teenagers, me being an extremely happy 35 year old who was gutted when she came to the end of Breaking Dawn, and didnt want the story to end. Those that have read the books have received the graphic details, and I cant imagine anyone shying away from any scenes. Stephenie has written these books with sheer brilliance and thrown in a few extra surprises that you didnt expect.
Twilight movie didnt have as much detail as the books. I just hope Summit dont decide to tone down these scenes it will seriously disappoint the fan base.
Although the Harry Potter books never appealed to me, the films never seemed to disappoint. These books also had such a wide audience age group with scenes that could question the gore and frightening element to the younger audience!! I just hope they continue with the current cast through to Breaking Dawn, to change the cast just due to the age factor would just be ridiculous - SUMMIT YOU HAVE TO RELEASE THIS FILM - would love it to be a complete Lord of the Rings epic film.
I don’t think they should tone down BD due to their young fans. There are just as many fans in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. I’m 37 and when I went to see Twilight, The adults outnumbered the teens by 4 to 1. If the parents allowed their kids to read the books, then why not the movies? Everything that has happened in the first three books leads up to what happens in the fourth. To tone it down, and not show the honeymoon or the cottage scene would be a grave dissapointment. Anyway, by the time BD comes out, a lot of the teen fans will be 3 or 4 years older and they should be able to handle it.
Toning down “Breaking Dawn” would be a travesty, and could really hurt the story if Summit censors too much.
Adapting BD into a PG-13 movie that’s faithful to the book could be possible, though an R rated adaption is the better option.
The NC-17 route isn’t neccessary. The Twilight-Faithful are not asking for BD to be “Nudist Colony: The Movie” or “Extreme Vampire Porn Movie.” In all seriousness, there’s a lot of material depicted in R rated movies today that wouldn’t have just 5 years ago.
Breaking Dawn needs to be made-otherwise, the story is incomplete. Seeing Bella and Edward together forever-well, that was the whole point of the story. Bella wanted to be a vampire to be with Edward forever. If done right and true to the book, this movie would be the best of the 4. I don’t see any problem doing it with a PG-13 with some gore during the birth and some gore when Bella hunts for the first time. PG-13 horror movies show a lot of gore normally and some of them are very scary. Kids go see these type of movies all the time-Breaking Dawn will not bother them.
I don’t think BD should be 2 movies. One is enough-cut out most of the Jacob stuff-he’s in NM and Eclipse a lot-this movie needs to be about Bella and Edward’s journey together.
Now, all Summit has to do is convince KS and RP that they have to make Breaking Dawn. I would think they would want to bring these characters full circle and give them their happy forever ending. At least, I hope so. Another reason BD needs to just be one movie, KS and RP have other movies and a life, Ha Ha, I’m sure they would like to get back to one day.
Okay guys, didn’t parents throw a hissy fit after Harry Potter 6 came out because Harry decides that he wasn’t going to return to school so he can hunt Voldemort? C’mon! I see their perspectives - kids are super impressionable and I can understand their concerns, but that’s what the MPAA gives ratings for. BD can EASILY be Rated R. I just don’t think that the fans who are adult enough to handle the content should be penalized for the tweens. And lets have an OUNCE of faith in our young - I remember when I was a kid and I saw Dirty Dancing. I loved that movie, but I wasn’t exactly going to go run off with the nearest dancer or waiter because it was in the movie.
Clearly, Stephenie Meyer did not intend for 10 year olds to read BD…think about it - she’s a mother too, and I seriously doubt that she wants children reading about sex and physical relationships. But her characters grew and so the STORY grew too. It is up to parents to determine whether or not their kids should see it. People who are worried about content can simply NOT READ IT (or not WATCH the movie). As for the younger kids, regardless of the movie rating, they’re going to find a way to see it. Remember being a kid and sneaking in to Rated R movies or clubs when you weren’t old enough? The young always find a way.
But I will say that Summit should stick to the book. The honeymoon, the birth of Renesmee and Edward turning Bella (how hot was the scene where Edward was biting her body and then sealing the venom in with his tongue?) the hunting, the first night at the cottage…these are all key scenes that readers want to see.
Either way - Summit owes much of its present (and future success) to Twilight Saga Fans…they have a responsibility to do the movies RIGHT.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Edelacruz:
You are so on target. I just have to say: ditto, ditto, ditto!
I am hoping that they make this movie into two diffrent movie’s but wait to premier them until the same time. Also as other’s above said yes they are married and they are finished with highschool. Another thing is that they make it clear with the whole vampire thing besides being married that they are together for ever and always and if they are mature enough to make that decision then there mature enough to have a baby. Pluse with all of the sex, drugs, and alchohol in media today what is wrong with that being in the movie when its out there every where ealse but here its done in the right way. The main problem there going to have with making the movie is making renesmee age and communicate properly.
