THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: ‘ECLIPSE’ HAS ITS FIRST NEW CASTING?
The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business Blog is reporting that the Eclipse movie has its very first new casting. Which role has reportedly been filled? That of Riley. THR has all the details, which you can read below:
Google might want to brace for a search onslaught: An unknown Australian actor named Xavier Samuel has landed the first new role in “Eclipse,” the third “Twilight” pic.Summit has hired the actor to play the role of a “newborn vampire” named Riley, a good-looking college student who joins the plot of villain Victoria to murder protagonist Bella (Kristen Stewart). Riley is corrupted by Victoria, for whom he has an inexplicable weakness.
The movie’s larger plot centers on a choice Bella must make between the werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and the vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson).
Samuel, repped by Management 360, Gersh and Shanahan in Australia, has been in series of films down under, including “Newcastle,” in which he played a Goth teenager amidst a group of surfers (the movie played Tribeca last year — though you can bet Netflix will see just a small spike now), the Aussie period drama “September” and the upcoming sci-fi thriller “Road Train.” This marks his first U.S. role.
Of course, I’m thrilled to hear some casting reports, but I won’t lie, I’m still really hoping for Tom Felton in the role of Riley. Regardless, I really like Samuel’s look and I’m interested to see him in the role. However, as always, remember that this news is not confirmed (we all know by now that it’s not safe to believe anything until we hear from Summit!).

So no Idea if he would be any good as Riley. I was also hoping for Tom Feldon to play Riley so I am a little disappointed yes…

I am from Australia and think it’s awesome for this young new Aussie talent to receive the role.
I can see him as Riley, they just have to make him blonde. Riley is only described as blonde and is around the same age as Bella.
Well, I have to agree, I would’ve loved to see Tom get the role, but this kid is a good looking kid, so he may fit too… But yes, I agree with Leanne, he needs to be blonde. I always imagined a blonde surfer-looking kid as the role of Riley… LOL

Oh, wow! I think he’d be GREAT Riley! Considering that I wrote a TATB article about who I’d like to see as Riley as well as asking for other TA’ers to respond who they’d like, I didn’t have this guy on my list. However, I think he “looks” like how Riley is described. He definitely looks around Bella’s age which is how Stephenie described him. He does need to be blond for that’s so easily done these days. I think he LOOKS LIKE A GREAT RILEY! I like the fresh, new faces they try to get. I don’t like the idea of Tom Felton simply because he’s so equated with the Potter franchise (and, I mean, for a long time now)! Let’s get past the sharing of actors with the Potter franchise. We have Rob, that’s a steal in itself! : )
I agree with Leanne. I think one of the really nice things about The Twilight Saga films is that they have beautifully blended the casting of some talented young actors who were not so well known previously with some very distinguished veterans of the craft. If Xavier has been cast, I think we should give him a chance. I know we all had our favorites in mind, but this kid could be a pleasant surprise!
I was really excited when I heard the rumor about Tom Felton playing Riley, because I pictured someone quite like him when reading Eclipse. That being said, when I saw this photo, I thought hmmm, I can see that too. They both have the young blond look. I can see either of them being a strong choice, but Xavier also seems to have an innocence to his look that would fit with Riley’s naivety in falling for Victoria’s lies. I think I would be happy with either choice.
Put me down as another person wanting Tom Felton to play Riley! I’m sure this unknown will do his best, but my heart was really set on Tom being Riley.

I’m actually sad though..that they’ve already casted Riley. That means more will be casted very soon, and I submitted for Bree and I’ve heard nothing yet. :[ I was hoping for atleast an audition.
I should get the chance, everyone should. Just because we don’t have movies behind us, or tv shows doesn’t mean we don’t have the acting possibility to fill the role.

FINALLY! Australia has some kind of input in the whole Twilight saga. Now, all we need to do is have more merch, and decrease the cost of the Edward and Bella dolls. $76.99? I don’t think so! And we also need a convenstion. Hopefully in Sydney. With EVERYONE. Not just the nice ones like Edi and Kellan who came to JB to sign DVD copies
