THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: ROBERT PATTINSON HAS ‘BREAKING’ NEWS

Posted May 19th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 17 Comments »

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Robert Pattinson at the Cannes Film Festival where he had some ‘Breaking’ (yes, notice the horrible pun) news about the fourth film in the Twilight saga:

Robert Pattinson, who shot to stardom in “Twilight” and is now filming the second and third movies in the franchise, confirmed Tuesday in Cannes that there will be a fourth installment of the vampire franchise based on the book “Breaking Dawn.”

Pattinson told The Hollywood Reporter that he is committed to starring in the final outing to date but doesn’t know when backers Summit Entertainment will begin production because of the actor’s jam-packed shooting schedule.

Fans have been hoping for a movie version of the fourth novel from Stephenie Meyer’s best-sellers, so Pattinson’s commitment is the biggest fillip yet. The fourth book (caution — spoiler alert) centers on Bella and Edward’s marriage and her subsequent pregnancy.

Dropping in on the Croisette on the way to shooting the final four days of “New Moon” in Italy on Friday, Pattinson said he is heading back to Vancouver in October to finish up “Twilight: Eclipse,” the third installment. In between, the British actor, who turned 23 last week, plans to star in “Remember Me,” which Summit also is producing.

The script adaptation for “New Moon” beefs up his character’s role considerably — in the book, Edward is a “a voice in Bella’s head,” he said.

Said Pattinson, laughing: “You’re playing a figment in Bella’s imagination so I was trying to do it in a 2-D way. I hope it doesn’t translate onscreen as being boring.” The hardworking actor is taking a few days off after completing “New Moon” before the start of the “Remember Me” shoot. He plans three days off after an eight-week planned shoot for “Remember Me” before finishing “Eclipse” before October.

Pattinson said “Remember Me” is very difficult to describe but said it is very much about him and, after reading the script last summer, felt a connection with it. The main protagonist is a 23-year-old man who spends six weeks after meeting someone working out if he is in love or not.

So though Rob hinted at a fourth movie, and a fourth seems likely at this point anyway, I still won’t believe it until I hear it from Summit. Rob’s schedule sounds pretty packed, though. I hope he’s taking enough time off in between films to regain his sanity. It’s nice that he’s being offered so many roles, but it seems so tightly packed in a short amount of time.

What do you think of this news? Do you feel like this cements a Breaking Dawn movie or will you wait until Summit confirms it to get your hopes up?

Oh I’m so relieved to hear some kind of confirmation that BD will be adapted into a movie! Yey!!! Looking forward to Remember Me too!!!

  • creamy

Hey! Can I call them? OK, not a real stretch I know. I hope he will leave room in his schedule so it won’t be too far off. Now the big question, how will they present Renesmee? I would love to hear what Stephenie has to say on this news.

  • 17 forever

Not “breaking” news at all. Rob allready talked about the fourth movie at the oscars. Only Summit will not confirm or deny. I suppose they’ll wait till both other movies are as big a succes as the first one before they really commit.

  • kerri

Im so excited. Yeah he has talked about ti before but it still makes me squee when I read it. I can not wait for the wedding and honey moon…and the birth and the Bellas first hunt…their cottage and Renesme…Oh all of it!!!!!!

  • kathi doll

I hope Rob Pattinson doesn’t have a breakdown from exhaustion or something…seriously, he is doing to much. We are going to kill him with all this hype.

  • sharon

I hope Summit does confirm they are going ahead with the fourth movie after all it wouldn’t be complete with out it. I’m glad to hear Rob is committed to continue the part and I hope the others will be also.

  • Leanne

Thats ok….I know a great taxidermist and I have the perfect place in my Lounge…….LOL…..just kidding LOL

  • Fierce~pixie

I so agree with kathi doll. I feel bad for the poor kid having to run down dark alleys to get away from all the hype. He is spreading himself too thin for sure. But I guess that is why he gets paid the big bucks! I am so exceited about BD comming and I can hardly wait for NM!!!! Maybe after all this he could (I know I am going to get killed for saying this out loud)retire and finally work on his music.

  • Tricia

I am so excited about BD! It only makes sense to do it. I hope Summit confirms the production of BD soon. But is great to get some sort of confirmation for it.

  • kelly

Happy to hear it again. He did confirm it once already…Did anyone else notice how Robert mentioned that “Remember Me” is very difficult to describe but said it is very much about him and, after reading the script last summer, felt a connection with it. The main protagonist is a 23-year-old man who spends six weeks after meeting someone working out if he is in love or not.Could he have been dropping hints about his OBVIOUS feelings for ms.Stewart??????huuummmm interesting!!!

  • alexis

    OH HALE YESS!

  • patty

oh hell yes great news a for brkaing danw and his otherupcomign fi,m. all my fave actors shall reutrn because other cools acotr.s Im’ excidted for thier upcoming movies as well!

  • Midori

I saw a clip of him at Le Grand Journal..he looked fantastic. He was a bit embarrassed when a french lady on the panel asked him for a kiss. The gentmen that he is..he complied and placed a kiss on her cheek (embarrassed). Such a guy! Rob mentioned taking a few days off between movie (Remember Me) and Unbound Captives. It seems like Remember Me was written for him.

  • Sydnee

if their almost done of New Moon then why aren’t there more clips out yet?? i kno they have to go through the whole editing process but for twilight when the bio. lab scene came out u could see camera’s everywhere

ALSO!!! any idea on the release date for eclipse??

  • renate

he looks a little tired but drop dead beautiful

  • Midori

For Syndee; the release date of Eclipse I’ve heard is about summer of 2010. I believe BD will be December 2010 if all goes according to schedule. You realize Rob will be about 24 1/2 when all is complete. he began Twilight at age 22. Making these movies has taken its toll on him..I hope it’s for the positive. It seems like the role of Edward Cullen was made for Rob..I really can’t imagine anyone else portraying him.

As for Kelly’s mentioned about Remember Me and his obvious feelings for Kristen, well, I couldn’t agree with you more.

  • Becca E Twilight Mom Forever

Im relieved it came from one of the main characters but I will not be 100% sure until I hear it from summit too.
