$236 million is impressive, wouldn’t you agree?
LOL@Rob - he will never again be told he is not famous or commercially viable enough when he tries out for a part in a movie. Do you agree with that? It’s possible that it could actually work against him. What do you think?

So they are going to shoot Eclipse right after New Moon? What about Breaking Dawn? Has anybody heard if they are going to attempt making that into a movie?
How do you think it will work against him? Like, in terms of him being typecasted? Or just that he has way more to lose now if he picks the wrong movie next?
If the reported budget (50 mil) is correct, that accounts for Stewart’s and Pattinson’s pay raises, and that’s just about IT. More evidence that Summit has no intention to reinvest the staggering windfall that was their profit from “Twilight” back into raising the production quality of the sequel. Very frustrating. Of course, this is all assuming the circulating numbers are accurate. I’m hoping Weitz’s relationship with Feig at Summit will result in some extra cash!
None of the cast has a contract for Breaking Dawn. I have seen interviews where it was said that the last book had not come out when all the actors were signed. I hope they are still going to make it, but I guess it depends on how the other two movies do. If it gets made I’m sure Robert and Kristen will be more money for that one.
$236 Million Plus is amazing now all we need is for all the same fans to come out for the rest of the movie, because if the Saga keeps up the same revenue or close to it, then Summit will most likely make Breaking Dawn too.
I definitely think that Twilight has opened more doors for Rob and he will now be on the radar for every studio executive. Let’s be honest, right now, he’s like a beacon drawing all the fans to him. I am sure the studios look at him and see dollar signs. I respect the fact that Rob doesn’t want to be typecast or to be completely conventional and predictable. I am so excited to see How to Be and Little Ashes (although I wonder if the tween fanbase who look at Rob and see only Edward will like his roles in his other films). I think that all this hoopla would only work against him if he continues to stay in this same type of genre. Like Orlando Bloom, who was great in most of his period/epic movies then tanked in Elizabethtown. I think that Rob will do well as long as he continues to change it up every now and then.
The story is true: Twi definitely has reached mainstream popularity. Hopefully that won’t make the producers screw up the sequels. Bigger isn’t always better.
@ amitiel - are you serious?? Just 50 mil. for New Moon? I can’t believe it…
The author of this article obviously doesn’t know what “sleeper hit” means. Earning almost $70 mil opening weekend is not a sleeper hit. Sleeper hits are slow and steady, gaining steam as they go along. Juno. My Big Fat Greek Wedding. And maybe Titanic (it opened around $25 mil I believe and then kept on getting that number for many weeks after). Those are sleeper hits that became huge phenomena.
I agree with previous comments in that bigger is NOT better nor is more special effects the saving moneymaking lifeforce big movie industry wants to make it out to be. But also, it seems sad that more money isn’t being invested into the sequels compared to the major financial success Twilight has given to Summit.
The money could be used for more scenes improved writing and longer movie time rather than just fancier special effects. New Moon will need some SE but that isn’t the only thing that will make it a commercially successful movie. Sticking to the author’s original story and keeping the actors the fans have already ACCEPTED and shown they love will the be main points to keep in mind.
The smart money will have Stephenie Meyer very close by and will be as open and accepting of the fans as Catherine was.
236 million so far is indeed impressive, though not surprising. What I’d love to know is how much additional money has been made through merchandising…surely, enough that the studio could invest a bit more in New Moon.
As for Rob - the hysteria had thrust him into the spotlight and will hopefully open doors and give him choice roles that his talent alone would have take longer to gain. I have the utmost faith in his choices and wouldn’t be surprised to have him compared to the likes of Johnny Depp in the future (but that’s just MHO). I look forward with eager anticipation to New Moon and beyond…
