THEMOVIEFANATIC.COM – CAN ROB EVEN HANDLE SNL?

Posted October 17th, 2008 By: 7 Comments »

Would Rob Pattinson be able to handle hosting Saturday Night Live (if he was even invited)? Or would he totally bomb? Jed from TMF gives his thoughts and reminisces on past appearances – can Rob live up to Jake Gyllenhaal, Ellen Page, or Natalie Portman……?

While I would love to see him on Ellen doing something both naughty and nice, I would look even more forward to seeing him on Oprah and perhaps hearing something more serious from him (since it’s quite obvious people are telling him to put on a show and act like other ‘normal’ Hollywood actors i.e. looks bored, loves to party). While I could probably force myself to smile if he agreed to join Martha Stewart and arranged some flowers or cooked his version of gourmet sweet and spicy Spanish sardines delight, a gig on Saturday Night Live would be much more fun, definitely more prestigious, and, based on the impressive performances of past guest stars, be far more challenging for an actor on the verge of superstardom.

Let’s look back at some of SNL’s most amazing episodes, especially those involving some of today’s most talented young actors. Right after that, let’s get into the ‘zone’ and think about Rob and what possible scripts would best suit him, given his dry British sense of humor (which is actually quite awesome), the seemingly favored image of Edward Cullen, and his other passion – music. Can we use them to come up with something that SNL regulars might find hilarious and outrageous?

Jake Gyllenhaal: Of Brokeback Mountain, Drag Queens and Dreamgirls – It was Season 32 when Jake Gyllenhaal appeared on Saturday Night Live. Riding on the wave of critical success following the release of Brokeback Mountain, Jake gave us one of the most impressive SNL appearances ever.

Ellen Page: Juno and Teen Pregnancy, Anatomy of a Classy Lesbian – Canadian sensation Ellen Page also performed quite amazingly in an episode of Saturday Night Live.

Natalie Portman: Of Gangsta rap, Vanity fair and more! Sometimes you simply have no idea about certain celebrities. Natalie Portman is one of cinema’s most talented young actresses. Whether you agree with me on that is simply not an issue here. From the time she portrayed the young Mathilda in the action-thriller Leon, she already assumed greatness. So who really is Natalie Portman? I’m quite surprise myself to learn she can rap – and it’s awesome! Again, whether you agree with me or not is not an issue!

I LOVED Natalia Portman’s gangsta rap. I almost peed my pants watching that one. TMI I know.

Personally, I’d like to see Rob do comedy. He can do dark and serious, but can he be funny?
SNL may not be interested in having him on until after Twilight comes out, when he’s more well known. I’m not sure he can out do Jake, Natalie or Ellen. This could be the one things Rob is not good at. What do you think? Any specific ideas of what Rob could do on SNL (Jed from TMF wants your feedback too.)?

OK, IF Rob wanted to do SNL and IF he was invited, I would totally love to see a Twilight spoof with him and Kristen (or someone dressed up like Bella). That would be priceless — I think he could pull off funny, everyone talks about how fun and personable he is.

Also, to continue on with the recent publicity his hair has been getting, maybe he could do a really exaggerated huge afro-like ‘do and he could be sitting in a movie theatre and someone could be complaining because they can’t see beyond his enormous hair, and he’ll turn around, and they’ll be like “Oh My Edward, it’s Robert Pattinson!!” — OK, so I’m not a comedy writer — but, hey, I would laugh!!

If Rob got himself a comb and turned up that ol’ brit charm, he’ll likely kill it at SNL. The important thing is to be able to comfortably make fun of yourself, and step out of his skin for a while to have a little fun with the SNL crew. I personally can’t wait to see him have a go at it.

I’m not sure that Rob would be interested in doing SNL. He is very personable from what I’ve seen, but he is kind of shy. He does have a great sense of humor and it would be very interesting to see what he can do on SNL. If he can do comedy, it would be awesome to see that side of him. I’ve seen him in certain interviews….when he laughs, it’s like …contagious, you want to laugh too.

My favorite guest star was Justin Timberlake! I peed myself laughing when he dressed like the hot dog mascot and had a sing off with a rival Omlet mascot, LOL! But can Spunk handle it….he is quirky and funny enough, no question. Just not sure if he would be used to SNL’s humor? The Brits have Extras, thats funny, just different. I thought about this before and if SNL asked Kristin and Rob, then I think it would be a great. They would deffinatly get a ratings spike!

It couldn’t HURT his stardom, that’s for sure. His level of stardom is only growing, so doing a skit on SNL could be the next big publicity thing for him. I don’t see it until after Twilight, however. Everyone thinks this will be HUGE, but I don’t like to keep my eggs all in one basket. I’m waiting to see if it will live up to its hype.

(Although, the fangirl in me is rejoicing, honestly.)

i really could not see rob trying to be funny . i mean , if he could do it , then that would be great , and it would really help out promoting Twilight and his dazzling hair :) but , personally , i just really cant see him trying to do something like SNL .

but thats just my opinion .

The best skit would be a Twilight parody with Rob of course as Edward, and Gilly instead of Bella (I can’t remember the actress’ name off hand, but she is so funny and obtuse – one of Edward’s own comments about Bella) That would be the skit of all skits, with everyone on the floor laughing I’m sure!
