TIME: PERSON OF THE YEAR 2008, STEPHENIE MEYER
Stephenie Meyer makes another list of important persons for the year for 2008:
Maybe Americans aren’t ready for a Mormon presidential nominee yet. But they’re more than ready to anoint a Mormon as the best-selling novelist of the year. The hero of Meyer’s Twilight series — and hit movie — is a vampire named Edward who doesn’t kill people and declines to sleep with, or bite, his girlfriend Bella.

Meyer’s religious upbringing taught her something few writers grasp, that fantasies can be about restraint as well as excess. Sometimes nice girls do finish first.

I wonder how Stephenie feels about all the attention this year? Do you think she’s being recognized more? Do you think it has compromised her privacy? Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see her being included on these lists. I just hope she can still live her life w/o being harassed by fans and paparazzi. What do you think?

I think this is an amazing honor for Stephenie and she should be so proud! Of COURSE her life is going to change, but that’s something you have to be willing to risk if you enter a profession that can bring great fame and success!
Congrats Stephenie!
She lives in Cave Creek and as someone from Arizona, I can tell you there isn’t a HUGE population like Phoenix or the towns closely surrounding it. So while she may get fans recognizing her sometimes at the grocery store, I would be shocked if she has paparazzi ever.
But, I think it’s great she’s getting recognized by magazines like Time and not just People or Entertainment Weekly! So good for her! :]
This is fantastic and so well-deserved! I am sure her life has changed but I hope that for the most part, it’s in good ways.
This is a well deserved honor for Stephenie. The fact that so many girls are embracing the idea that a guy can be sexy, good looking and desirable and yet have good moral values, and not pressure his girlfriend for sex, should be making people sit up and take notice. It’s about time that this view is portrayed in popular literature. Stephenie has created an enormous phenomenon with her books, and I thank her for it.
I think she’s great and of course I love the books. But in a year where we have elected the first black President–touted as our next great hope–during a presidential race that included our first serious woman contender for president, and during a year that has included some amazing newsworthy people…
…well, I am more than a little flumoxed that Time–of all magazines–would hand over its person of the year honor to an author. I just don’t get it, no matter how popular she and/or the books have gotten.
I say that her life has changed but for the good part is changed for a woderful reasons! I love the fact that she has been recognized for this reason and i personally love all her books!!!!!!! I thank Stephenie Meyer for all the hard work she has put into those books!!!!!!!!!!!! All the AMAZING things that she has done surprises me because she has to deal with paparazzi, fans, and family. On top of that trying to write books. She is an awesome author, and mother to her children!!!!!!!!!!
KEEP ON WRITING STEPHENIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
