TMF PERSPECTIVES: CHRIS WEITZ AND WHAT HE CAN BRING TO THE ‘TWILIGHT’ FRANCHISE
tMF has has interesting look at New Moon director Chris Weitz and what they believe he will be bringing to the The Twilight Saga. In their article they attempt to answer three very specific questions : Can he make a difference and give the fans what they really want? Can he entice this ‘hostile’ group into watching New Moon? Can Weitz level the playing field between Taylor Lautner and the very popular Robert Pattinson? Read more below:

Two Basic Twilight Issues: Why he agreed to direct New Moon and his collaboration with Meyer. Why direct the movie:
The tonality of the movie, which has a lot to do with heartbreak and longing, depression and reunion and ecstasy — these were emotions that struck a chord in me. I really loved the cast; Kristen (Stewart) and Rob (Pattinson) both are exceptionally talented. And I wanted to get my hand back in the game. There were a lot of things in this movie that I knew how to do: a combination of telling a character-based story but also handling special effects and working with young actors.
Collaboration with Stephenie Meyer:
Crucially, she approved me as director, and she didn’t have to. We had some discussions that were very important — my convincing her that I didn’t want to take her baby and run away with it, or tell a story that was counter to the spirit of what she was trying to tell. I see myself, in the last few movies I’ve done, as adapting literary properties into film, so that’s how I treated this one. We got along like a house on fire.
Weitz Twilight Perspective and his Directorial Approach:
Special Effects (CGI) from Weitz Perspectives: As compared to his other film, The Golden Compass, Chris has this to say:
It’s been an easier process. Let me see how am I going to put this? I found a lot less interference from Summit in terms of…and a lot more understanding the books than A-Line had of Golden Compass. So I think there’s a studio that understands the importance of the books…the studio…the members of which who have read the books and appreciate them and do not just see them as engines of possible profit. So that makes a tremendous difference. It really does.
There were a lot of parts in Twilight that were a homage to the cover and Stephenie had a cameo. Are there any plans to put your spin on that I this movie at all?
Well I know that Stephenie did not like the tulip on the cover. So we won’t be seeing that. Let me see, I don’t know that there are any trick cameos per say, but every time I make a movie I definitely want there to be 20-30 moments where if you had a DVD and stopped it and really looked carefully to see what was going on…whether it be kind of strange bits of foreshadowing, sort of as though you could see into the future in certain scenes or whether it would just be little moments that passed by unnoticed, or details of the architecture of things. I love doing that sort of stuff.

What do you think of tMF’s answers to their questions? Do you agree?

Darn, my computer would not let me open “the rest of the article”. Good questions and eloquent answers. I do
admire Chris and love his “feeling” about the books and characters & that he wants to be in sync with Stephenie. He is a jewel and I hope he directs Breaking Dawn.
