TOP TEN TUESDAYS – TOP 10 REASONS YOU SHOULD BE PROUD TO BE A TWILIGHTER

Posted April 14th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 26 Comments »

There are millions of Twilight fans all over the world and many are proud to scream from the rooftops that they are a Twilighter. However, there are still several fans who are more reserved about their addiction for fear of being judged, fear of being ‘too old’, and other reasons. Well, in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday list we set out to show you that no matter your age, gender, or career, there are several reasons you should be proud to be a Twilighter.

So this week, TA Staffer Rebecca brings us
The Top Ten Reasons You Should Be Proud to Be a Twilighter:

10. We’re loyal. When one of our own is in trouble, we step up to the plate. (ie: Russell Brand’s interruption during the MTV Awards, the leaking of Midnight Sun, Stephen King’s harsh words for Stephenie Meyer)

9. MTV named Twilighters “Woman of the Year” for 2008 for several reasons, including the fact that we took over ComiCon, brought the Twilight soundtrack to #1 on the Billboard charts, we stepped up to the challenge of making $150 million at the box office, and more.

8. We break records. We made Twilight the #1 most pre-ordered DVD ever at Wal-Mart, we catapulted Catherine Hardwicke into the spot of ‘highest grossing female director’, and we put Twilight at #7 on the list of Top Ten Advance Ticket-Sellers, among tons of other records.

7. Twilighters give the economy a much-needed boost. Our sales made up 16% of all books in the first quarter of 2009, Hot Topic reported a profit increase due to Twilight sales, and Forks, WA noticed a huge spike in tourism.

6. We’re an international group of people who speak a common language: Twilight.

5. We are dependable. When a fellow Twilighter is in need, thousands of others rally around.

4. Twilighters are total romantics. We can soften anyone up with the numerous romantic quotes we have memorized from the books.

3. We’re determined. We’ve crashed several internet servers and we’re proud of that…not sure if the server owners are, though.

2. Two words: Edward Cullen

1. When you realize you’re a Twilighter, you find out you’ve got an extended family you never knew about. We are a tight knit family just like the Cullens.

What do you think of the list? Have any other reasons you should be proud to be a Twilighter?

I was very much against Twilight after I saw that it turned my little sister into a zombie and she started saying weird things like “you fragile little human” to me and then laughing to herself afterwords…I refused to be sucked into this world, but she got to me and once i started reading i couldn’t stop and everywhere i looked i saw twilight, and twilight fans, I have approached people on the street who wore twilight shirts, or had a cullen crest that only Twilighter would really know what that is, and I am proud to say i am a twerd at heart and it is a “tight knit family” that i am privileged to be apart of!

  • JasminFallejo

Great list, also I like to add 3 more to that list, 11. you know you are a Twilighter when you can not talk to people who don’t know any thing about The Twilight Books or The Movie and trust me THOSE people exist, because really there is nothing else important enough to talk about, am I right, 12. if you are out doing other things you wish you were at home on your Computer on a Twilight site or reading the Twilight books again and again, or 13. you pick your kids up from School 30 min late because you just wanted to finish that chapter,YES,that was me but they were lucky it wasn’t raining.

I am 33!! I thought that my 13 year old daughter was just reading a obsessive love story. I kept telling her..”You know this is not reality right? No men are like this..except your father!” She stayed in her room for days reading the books! Then we took her to the Twilight midnight DVD release party at Hastings and came home to watch it. I was hooked!!! We left for a small vacation the next morning and I read in the car. I didn’t stop reading for 1 week. I read all the books in a week. I was obsessed!!! My mother and sister in law are also obsessed! We can’t wait for Nov. 20!!

Couldn’t argee more! I met a group of total strangers in Japan 1 1/2months ago, because we’re all coming from Taiwan and attending the fan meeting event. We’d experienced the worst winter day in Tokyo that day and we’re standing OUTSIDE of building in snow and rain for six hours waiting for the cast to arrive. Now the eight of us has formed a sisterhood of some sort…even though we all live in different cities, we always try to make time for each other and have dinner parties. this weekend we are having our first Twilighter Slumber party and we are going to watch Twilight DVD non-stop whole night through! I’d never thought i could meet a group of BFFs at my age…it’s really amazing!

    Twilighters rock the world!

This is easily the best and most accurate Top Ten Tuesdays list yet. The “close knit family” part is the best. It’s so true. I’ve met total strangers through Twilight (and Twilight fanfiction) and now they’re some of my closest friends. And I LOVE number 6 – I’m constantly blown away by how widespread the Twilight phenomenon is. I now call people from at least three different continents “friend”, just because of Twilight. It’s so much more than a book/movie series; it’s a family. A family I couldn’t be prouder to be part of. Kind of makes me want to write Stephenie Meyer a heartfelt letter or something.

  • TwilghtGuy#1

me too i love being a twilighter but i dont agre with number nine cause not all fans are girls some are old some are young some are male. other than that this was a awesome article.

  • Mandi

Awesome but 10 & 5 are quite similar

  • kijo921

Agreed AND AMEN! I’m going to read this to my classes tomorrow!

Love you, guys (I mean ladies and guys)! We ARE awesome, aren’t we???

  • featherhead

Reason #11 to be a Twilight fan: You lose 8lbs in 4 days because you couldn’t tear yourself away from reading the books to even get a bite to eat.
This happened to me so it works as a great diet plan! I didn’t even notice how much weight I lost untill after I stopped reading the books and noticed my pants were loose. Thanks Stephanie Meyer for giving us a Twilight diet book!

  • Shea

Wooooo! [: twilighters rock the world.
and totally right about our own little language!

  • kijo921

featherhead, I agree… same thing happened to me! That’s another reason why we need another Twilight book from Stephenie! Help us lose weight, Steph! Bring on Midnight Sun!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have felt so guilty for loving Twilight so thoroughly and this list brought it into perspective…I LOVE my extended Twilight family.

Twilight Australia Mom – I’m a mom too and I second your adds. I think I’ll even third them…

Featherhead – LMAO! I can’t say I lost 8 lbs but I think my family might have cause I stopped cooking…

Proud to be a Twiligther in this corner of the world that I come from! Last summer (January and February) Twilight-mania hit Argentina: if you looked around when you were walking on the beach you could see every houndred meters or so somebody reading a book from the saga and that made me feel extremly happy because I felt like I wasn’t the only one obsessed with this story. Anyway, it’s still not as popular as it is in the US, and my friends haven’t read the books (yet) so at first I felt a little frustated -I couldn’t talk with anyone about them. I thought, ok, people read the books and liked them but that’s just it, there’s absolutly no reason to be this obsessed…- and then I found this huge fan base on the internet and realized that all over the world there were people just like me that could read a 500pages book in less than two days and read it over an over again, and spent so many time thinking about it, discussing it, writting fanfictions and stuff like that… well, this got a little bit longger than I expected…
All I wanted to say is that I feel very proud of being part of this gigantic family of people I can identify with and not be ashemed of showing how passionate I can be about this epic love story.
Awww, I got really emotional, I know
    XOXO

  • Hurriyah

I am honored to be a Twilighter. Its the best things that has ever happened to me. I have people I can get a long with. Twilight has changed my life. I was never the one to read until I discovered Twilight… now I can’t stop reading.
