BLU-RAY MYSTERY SOLVED AT BEST BUY AND TARGET

Posted February 23rd, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 10 Comments »

Much confusion has been going around about the ‘Twilight’ Blu-Ray, which was reported to be released at Best Buy and Target, along with the regular DVD on March 21st. Have no fear, Twilighters, our awesome TA Staff Member Evie has cracked the case:

Thanks to our great Twilighters here at TA, we were alerted that you were receiving emails from Best Buy, stating that your Twilight Blu-ray editions were no longer going to be available on the 21st of March, but instead would be released in May at the normal time.

A representative at Best Buy confirmed that Twilight on Blu-ray would not be available until May, even though the March 21st date is still listed on the website. She stated that company headquarters had not updated the website yet. After another call to a local Best Buy, more of the story unravels.

It would appear that some people will still get their Twilight on Blu-ray on the promised March 21st date, but many will not. According to the rep we spoke with, they oversold the Blu-ray copies that were to be available online, the rest that were ordered are back-ordered, and will not be available until the wide Twilight Blu-ray release date in May. Again According to the representative we spoke with, there WILL be copies of Twilight on Blu-ray still available for purchase in the stores- in limited quantities on March 21st. Those discs that were scheduled to go to stores will still be going to stores.

Target also has Twilight on Blu-ray available online with a release date of March 21st. They are calling it a Target Exclusive, and it carries a $29.99 price. No representatives were sure if this would be available also in store. The Target Exclusive was confirmed by four representatives.

You can find the Target Exclusive on their website here.

Fortunately, I didn’t purchase a Blu-Ray through Best Buy. It is a major bummer that they sold out without so much as a warning, and I’ve gotta admit that doesn’t reflect very well on them.

Did you purchase a Blu-Ray through Best Buy? If so, are you going to cancel the order and take your chances with Target?

I did not order mine through Best Buy. I pre-order the regular Special Edition at a Border’s store (because their website said through it they were backordered until April) but I have the special Amazon set coming in May so that is when I will get my Blu-Ray :)

I’m confused…is this the normal “Blu-Ray” film, or the “Two-Disc Deluxe Edition”?? Because all of the Blu-Ray Twilight movies I’ve seen advertised are just the movie, not the special edition.

Hmmmmmmmm…….I didn’t pre-order through BB. I thought I’d go to Target on the morning of March 21st and get it then. Now I’m scared that it won’t be available. Maybe I’ll go in and ask them what’s up.

I preordered mine for in store pick up at Best Buy. Got the email this weekend that it would not be available until May, so I canceled the order. Not sure where I’m going to get one now. I really want Blu Ray, but want it on 3/21.

I just called BB to cancel and placed a pre-order for the Target version. The CSR was like “is this a scary movie?”, so we ended up chatting for like five minutes about the books, the movie and the fact that the May release would just NOT work, especially since me and my girlfriends area having another Twilight girls’ night when the dvd is released.

I had placed my order with Best Buy and I also got the email that said that I will get it in 5/5/09 total shock when I saw that. As soon as I read this note I pre order again but from Target this time and Now I’m canceling with Best Buy. Too careless of them for that! Thanks for this warnig it helped so much with that confusion!

I just received an e-mail from Best Buy restoring the 3/21/09 release date for my ordered blu-ray DVD. They must have obtained more product in response to the complaints.

The 2Disc Blu-Ray is exclsuive to Target. Best Buy only has the single disc Blu-Ray.
