VIDEOBUSINESS: TWILIGHT BLU-RAY EXCLUSIVELY AT TARGET AND BEST BUY
The studio continues to build a unique launch strategy for the film that involves limiting the availability of certain SKUs. Retail access to a single-disc standard-defintion version of Twilight will be restricted to rental stores and a very limited sell-through account base, which Summit has declined to detail. The Blu-ray also will be available for rental.
Target and Best Buy will be the sole Twilight Blu-ray sellers until May 5, when Summit will make the high-def version widely available to retail.
The studio declined to give the exact reason for curbing the initial availability of Twilight on Blu-ray. Nearly all major theatrical hits now launch widely on both standard-definition DVD and Blu-ray on the same date.
However, Summit Home Entertainment president Steve Nickerson noted that the overall idea is to street Twilight in its various versions so that it best attracts its specific young female fan group.
“This is an unprecedented place, where you have the size of the [Twilight] box office versus this targeted audience,” said Nickerson.
Twilight’s largest focus is the previously announced two-disc special edition with extensive bonus content, available everywhere at retail on March 21, which execs believe will carry the most appeal for the film’s many repeat theatrical viewers.
Twilight also could be heavily purchased as a digital download, matching how many fans bought the film’s soundtrack album.

Interesting tactic. Do you think it will work? After seeing movies on Blu-Ray, I definitely want that version of Twilight. Would you rather have the Blu-Ray than the regular 2 disc version? Or, it doesn’t really matter?

Blu-ray defiantly!
I definitely want the blu ray version. I have seen movies on blu ray compared to regular dvds and it is so clear. I plan to get a blu ray before twilight comes out on dvd. I want to see it crystal clear.
I am so getting the blu-ray version but am just wondering if it’ll have the same stuff as the special edition 2 disc dvd. Cause i want crystal clear viewing AND all the extra behind the scenes stuff!!
Yeah, I wonder the same thing as Karen. Do you think the Blu Ray will include the same bonus features as the 2 disc special edition DVD? I hope they clear this up before we all buy the blu ray version and realize it doesn’t have any of the extras we’ve all been dying to see.
I personally don’t care i mean yea watching it clear and more defined its a plus but u have to have some sort of blu ray DVD player or a pS3 and i have neither plus its true what if it doesn’t have the extra stuff it would suck i would be left paying more & quite frankly i care more about watching it in general
Dose this mean that Target and Best Buy are going to be open at Midnight???? Cause I will camp all night if needed I want that Blue Ray lol
:):):)
(I think they are doing it there only because those two big brand stores are doing the worst of all of them)
I am so excited about the Twilight DVD. I read that Catherine is putting alot of deleted scenes in the second bonus section. I hope she puts the scene where Rob falls off the bed which he kissed Kristen passionately. I think it was the audition scene. Anyway, I heard so many good things about the scene, I just want to see it. It should be a awesome DVD with all the extras in it.
I dunno yet. I’ll just have to look at them both. But I will want to DL it so I can put it on the pod.
Of course the BluRay will also have the same features. Blu ray is the new thing in home entertainment and every blu ray out there for new films always have the features the dvds have and often it even have more then the dvd releases
So you can be sure the BluRay will be jampacked with goodies:-)
Still think its kind of stupid to release it exclusive for those 2 shops. glad its going retail 5 may
I’m getting both. I need the hi-def, but I need the regular one to play on my other DVD players plus the portable! Maybe they will both have a little different stuff on there. I’m getting both either way though.
I’m just getting the regular. I don’t have a blu-ray player or a flat screen tv and can’t see the reason behind buying one for one movie even if I love Twilight.
Usually blu-ray disks have extra special features compared to the regular disk, and you can connect to the movie sit through blu-ray, like Wall-e and Dark Knight can upload new features that save on the disk (through the ps3 anyway). I hope Best Buy will be open at midnight, I was planning on going to walmart to get it since they’re always open. And I imagine Target and Best Buy payed an arm and a leg for the privilege, since they can use the release as a major advertisement.
I can’t wait for Twilight to come out on DVD. SO EXCITED!! It’s too long to wait. Ugh. =D
I’m going to get both. I’m a 34 year old mom and I intend on spending my well deserved tax money on a NICE 1080 TV and a new blu-ray player. If your gunna watch TWILIGHT or for that matter watch Rob Pattinson with all his romanticness then do it in HD with as crystal clear of a picture as you can afford to get. I have to get the regular DVD too, becuase my 14 year old daughter would wear out my copy and I don’t want to have to throw down with her. LOL…Team Edward everyone. Can’t wait till March and May…
Blu ray all the way! Planning a huge release party to counter the Super Bowl bash my bf is hosting with our new HD. I cannot wait, may even take the day off.
I saw a Blu-ray collector’s set on Amazon. It looks more pimped out than the regular Blu-ray discs, this one has a soundtrack, bracelet, photos, watch, and a collector’s box. AND you can order now. can’t wait!
just got an e-mail about my best buy blu-ray pre-order of twilight. date is now changed—to the date all the other stores will get blu-ray, 5/5, per best buy cust service their distributer changed the date for them and Target—they will not have an exclusive early release at this time will be like all the other stores
You can buy the blu-ray DVD 2-disc special edition on ebay as a pre-order for about $30 (including shipping). Canada is releasing the blu-ray version generally on 3/21, so they are able to sell it on ebay to US customers. Of course, if you’d rather camp at Target, you can do that too, but that doesn’t appeal to me at all!
