Posted May 18th, 2009 By: Evie 8 Comments »

We have a great set of odds and ends for you today including: A Twilight vampire history lesson, a Breaking Dawn movie debate, the Dune remake, an update to the Defining Twilight Essay Contest, Michael Sheen and Peter Facinelli on Youtube.

Twilight History Lesson: Influence of the Vampire in Popular Culture

  • Novel Novice Twilight is excited to present another look at how Twilight relates to the world of academia — with a new, scholarly paper examining the influence of the vampire in popular culture, and the “othering” of the female character in gothic literature. Site founder Ms. Truitt wrote the paper to complete her master’s degree in Literature — and once again, found inspiration from Twilight. The paper is also, in a sense, a follow-up to her previous work on the “othering” of the female fan. To read Ms. Truitt’s paper & check out some videos of the vampire in recent popular culture, click here.
  • The Breaking Dawn Movie Debate

  • Marc Malkin at E! has a video discussing what he thinks the key rumors are concerning Breaking Dawn. To see the video at E!, click here.
  • The Dune Remake: Can Robert Pattinson Fill Sting’s Metal Speedo?

  • Reelz channel takes a funny look at the possibility of Rob Pattinson in the Dune remake. To read more, click here.
  • Age 19+ age category added to Defining Twilight Essay Contest, First Prize $500

  • Many Twilight fans were upset that there was no “19 and older” age category in the Defining Twilight Essay Contest. So due to popular demand, there is now a “19 and older” age category to the Essay Contest; First Prize in each category $500. For more information, click here.
  • BBC Interview with Michael Sheen

  • The BBC recently interviewed Michael Sheen, and in the interview he states, “At the moment I’ve just come back from Vancouver where I’ve just got back from doing a film called New Moon which is the sequel to Twilight, which I know is very popular with young people,”. To watch the interview, click here.
  • Facinelli Fans On Youtube

  • Check out Peter Facinelli’s own Youtube channel! He currently has a greeting up for fans. See his channel, here.

Let me be one of the first to comment on the Dune er, photos. As much as I love Rob and want to see a lot of him, I don’t exactly want to see THAT MUCH of him. Seriously, can you say “blushing”. Yikes!

  • wen

I would hope that Rob would be playing the role of Paul in DUNE and not the minor role that Sting played (by the way he was awful). Anyone who saw DUNE with Sting will tell he can’t act, but Rob definitely has it in him to take on the lead role of Paul. I am insulted that a comparison would even be drawn between the two. I would love to see Rob take on DUNE it is a great book.

omg i heard breaking dawn is gonna be awsome and new moon is gonna make us cry!!!

  • Stet

Ok, so has *any* actor signed on for Breaking Dawn? I think not… so this speculation about Rob not returning is ridikulus…

  • patty

cool stories. and I’m sure rob has gnna be gret excpet forh t sepeedo part. I lvoe him, but I’m disturbed by speedoes.

  • creamy

I thought the video on BD was very lame. That a contract, or script for that matter doesn’t exisit is irrelevant. We learned nothing, and does anyone think that Rob would allow another actor to take his place for the last movie? (sniff). This was hardly insight on the situation. Kristen was right, we won’t stop caring, even as we watch the closing credits of BD. It may even be safe to predict riots to continue the story! Anyone?

As for Dune, what a lame comparison. I don’t think Taylor is “freakishly engorged”. He looks great. I don’t want Rob chasing Taylor in some silly muscle competition. I think they just used that for an excuse to show that picture of him in front of the mirror. And is it realistic to think the costumes will be the same? I seem to remember that movie was a huge flop. I would imagine there will be many changes to avoid that again.

  • Chris

    Well spoken, Creamy.

I personally think that the naked “Little Ashes” photo was way way way to much. Dude, I personally don’t think RPatz is very cute at all so I think you’re all nuts. Please don’t take offense I love Twilight, I’m just not a Rob Pattinson fan.
