‘BREAKING DAWN’: HOW DOES STEPHENIE FEEL ABOUT THE CONTROVERSY?

Posted June 13th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 69 Comments »

Q. How do you feel about the Breaking Dawn controversy?

A. It’s a hard thing to have people unhappy with you, but there’s nothing I can do. Either Breaking Dawn entertains you or it doesn’t. If I could go back in time, knowing everything I know right now, and write the whole series again, I would write exactly the same story. (The writing would be better, though—practice makes perfect.) This is the story I wanted to write, and I love Breaking Dawn. It’s everything I wanted in the last novel of my saga. People’s reactions don’t change that.

I adore Breaking Dawn! I wonder if it’s an age thing as the marriage, children and resolution aspects of Breaking Dawn are more in line with my life as it is at the moment (in my late 20s). The earlier books are more set in the pattern of life and experiences of teenagers and high school students, so I can understand if readers of that age are finding Breaking Dawn speaking to them less that the previous books.

I loved it that Bella got everything that she wanted. Probably again that by my stage of life I’ve had losses and disappointments and it’s nice to have a bit if escapisim in fiction where even when everything looks so black, it all works out for the best.

I really hope that they go ahead and make the movie. The special effects in it will have to be amazing but I’m not sure how they’ll get Bella ‘vomiting a fountain of blood’ past the censors!

Breaking Dawn for me was a REAL emotional roller coster. It was an entire different reading experience for me then the rest of the books … because I thought it had the most shockers. Thats why I think the book is really good. But the thing of it is … everything happened that I wanted to happen and more, but I liked things the way they were before Bella turned into a vampire. I think the reason why is mostly because of Renesmee. I am still kind of shocked that Edward could get Bella pregnant. But maybe its the fact that they are parents now … idk why but I just think its weird. I also liked their relationship better … maybe its the forbidden love. or maybe I think its sweeter that Edward tries SO hard to be with her and she risks her life for him. Idk I just have MAJOR Breaking Dawn PMS, lol. I cant make up my mind but all I can say is … if you loved the other books … Breaking Dawn is a MUST READ.

Ok.. so I LOVE all of the Twilight books..
And I find them all entertaining, I have read them so many times..
I lost count after 27. and I’ve read them quite a few more times since then.
I don’t think Breaking Dawn will be the final book of Bella’s story..
I mean do you really thing the Volturi are just gonna leave the Cullen’s alone now..
and even after Bella’s story is done..
what about Nessie, Jacob.. and the rest of the Wolves, Cullens, and what about Charlie?? come on.. i love the series.
and i REALLY hope she continues it.. but as of right now…
everything she has told of Bella’s story is really really good!!!!

The only problem I have with the ending of Breaking Dawn, is just that, it ended! I so want more! I think Stephenie was brilliant in the way she finished the saga! Bella wins! What more could we possibly want? Oh, yes, of course continue the saga; who doesn’t want that? Did she leave the door open? Absolutely! And Stepehenie if you are listening to your fans, WE WANT MORE!!!!!!

I LOVED Breaking Dawn! It was Awesome!

  • Edward’s Gal

Breaking Dawn may be my favorite (if not it’s Twilight). I loved all the little things like the way Edward called her “Sweetheart” (you will notice he didn’t use that name anywhere else throughout the Saga) and little Renemee (so cute!). One of the most important things to me was that he waited to change her untli she dying (she was willing to wait till twenty!). The things I had the biggest problem with were the Jacob narration (Stephenie, can you PLEASE release Forever Dawn??? PLEASE???, the imprinting (kind of weird, and anyway I never really liked Jacob, but that’s just me), and lastly, the way she said she loved Edward just as much as Renesmee (something about her heart swelling) but “held on” to the memory of Renesmee to bring her back from the from the fire. I would have held on to both. The ending was good. I might have preferred a fight but I didn’t want any of the good guys to die (even sadistic Kate). One last thing, if you ever read this, THANK YOU a thousand times Stephenie for the pro-life message!

Breaking Dawn was the best book of the series. I love everything about it and don’t think anything could be changed. If Stephenie had thought about change *anything* I would have to beg of her NO! NO! NO! the book is perfect.

Um, Edward’s Gal, Kate was *not* sadistic. She may have enjoyed working with Bella just a little too much (shocking Edward) but she wasn’t sadistic with it. I just wish that Kate had gotten to take on Jane. Jane really did need a taste of her own medicine for what she did to Edward in Italy (New Moon if anyone forgot which book).

I have read each book six times, am currently on the 7th go round and my co-workers make fun of me for it, but I don’t care! It’s an amazing series and I can’t get enough of it!

i loved breaking dawn, but i know there was complaints b/c there was no fight scene. I personally didn’t mind that there wasn’t, b/c someone would’ve had to die if that took place. As far as them making a movie, i would love to see them have an alternate ending on the dvd, with the fight scene, b/c i think then it would appeal to both parties. anyone agree?

  • Lorena

I only like breaking dawn in the beginning. But I think later on it’s just weird. And I know people will disagree, but I don’t like Renesmee either. I didn’t want Bella to have a kid cause I thought it should have ended with just Edward and Bella. That’s it.

To say the truth, me favorite book out of the whole series is New Moon.

  • Becca E Twilight Mom Forever

I absolutely love Breaking Dawn! it is my favorite book out of all of them. I think Stephanie did great! I would not have it end any other way. I have read it 5 times and am at the end of the 6th time and I never get bored with it,I love Renesmee shes a beauty. The whole book brings together the rest of the books for a fairy tail ending that’s happy! I love the birth part and Bella’s changing. I am however starved for more. I would love for Stephanie to continue writing about Renesmee and Jacob, and if the Volturi ever came back at the Cullens family. The best book series I have ever read, thanks Stephanie!

  • jocelynn M

breaking dawn is my favorite of the series! i do agree with melissa, that it would be cool if they had an alternate ending, but i would want it to be written by stephenie not melissa rosenburg. it would add a very interesting twist to the film. Go Breaking Dawn!

  • Judy Bradley

I loved Breaking Dawn too. It was so good to see Bella being able to feel good about what she could do and developing confidence in herself. I have read the series several times as well as watching the movie. I am going out there myself in a month and I am so excited! Thanks Stephanie, this has added a whole new dimension to my life! It is part of my life now, wish it would continue as it does in my heart and mind!

  • Cassidy

Breaking Dawn is of course my favorite of the saga.
I personally thought every single one was entertaining, nobody should be upset about the controversy.

  • Genna

Breaking Dawn is the best book I have ever read.
Nobody needs to be upset over this ending. I think it ended on a great note. It may have left people wanting more, but that just shows how amazing this saga has been. People need to get a grip and just realize that she wrote what she wanted to write and leave it at that.

  • Bella-Michi

I loved Breaking Dawn, but I thought there were too many loose ends left behind when it finished. I’d like to go through the story of Renesmee growing up, and all of her adventures getting big so fast. I think we need more Bella as a vampire as well, because it feels like the story isn’t over.
I do like the ending Stephenie used, I just think she could continue it. And I agree… she should release Forever Dawn!!!!

  • Mary

I loved Breaking Dawn!!The Twilight series was great and ended great!!

  • sirjames8

I loved all the books, reading them all twice and Breaking Dawn # times.
As an OLD Gamer(when it was paper and dice not CGI), I saw some strategies not considered. (probably would have made Bella waffle if they were, though.)
I was thinking about how she can cast her shield out just about anywhere. since Jane, and Alec are ALL of the Volturi’s offensive, Psi arsenal, She could have put them in a shield by themselves since they have to stay somewhat still and concentrating lock their powers in their evil little minds so they can’t affect anyone outside the shield. Since she seems to have a second personal part, (Edward still can’t hear her unless she shoves that away) she still would be immune, and they would have been neutralized, all the while giving her a little more freedom of movement. Since she would no longer have to keep altering her shield to keep her side under and the Bads outside it, she could do a little defense for her own safety.

  • sirjames8

I forgot about Chelsea! Keeping her locked inside her head too, might weaken some of the Volturi guards’ Bonds to their masters, making them less of a threat.

The ending is what it is…and it is sad one. I don’t see happy endings; I see desperate ones. Carlisle and family are presented a choice at the end of Breaking Dawn: maintain the status quo or risk everything for something far better. The Volturi are virtually powerless; they can dictate nothing. The choice made is ultimately all too human, all too selfish, and all too understandable: the free-thinking, independent vamps & wolves just walk away. I understand it. Most people won’t risk a comfortable life for something better if it means risking inconvenience, suffering, and possibly death. Would you fight for something you might not survive to see the benefit of? Are you answering honestly? Like most of us, Carlisle and Co. live in the illusion that war is indefintately postponed and not likely to ever affect them now. Meanwhile, the evil they could have stomped out at the cost of a few lives, will cost many as the enemy now has time to think, plan, divide, and conquer. In a series about immortals, the worst kind of death occurs: the death of the spirit. Amazing.
