‘NEW MOON’ OUTTAKE: ‘SCHOLARSHIP’

New Moon Outtake: Scholarship:

My mind ran through the conceivable possibilities as I hurried back to the office. Someone was laundering money through my account. Or maybe Charlie was taking bribes and I was blowing his cover. Who would have that kind of money to bribe Charlie with, though? Maybe Charlie was in the mob, taking bribes, and using my account to launder money. Maybe it was Phil? How well did I really know Phil, after all?

Questions

Did you like this outtake? Do you wish that Stephenie’s editors had allowed her to leave it in New Moon?

We get to see quite a bit of Bella’s sarcastic side in this outtake. Did you find this outtake funny, as Stephenie did?

Were you surprised that Edward “cheated” by interfering in Bella’s life in such a tangible way?

If you were Bella – would you have reacted the way she did to Edward’s “scholarship”?

I for one enjoyed this little outtake. Like the blog stated you do get see a sarcastic side to Bella. I thought it was funny that Edward interfered with her life that way. I do wish it was left in New Moon but I am not quite sure where it would fit in.

  • Bella

I think that it was good that they took this part out, because the hole point of New Moon is that Bella knows for SURE that Edward doesn’t care or want her.
The money thing would show Edward did still sort of care of Bella, which would destroy the hole point, and Edward said he’ll leave her and it will be like he was never there.
but it was still fun to read :D

I have to agree the editors made the right decision. I thought this was totally out of character for Edward to do this. Not that he would not want to give Bella money for college, but to keep a connection open. Of course this may have been intentional. He was getting weaker concerning not coming back.

I’m sure he felt she would eventually realize who was sending the money, and I was surprised he kept up the charade for so long. I thought the repeated attempts to force the money on her were cruel, though I’m sure Edward would not have meant them to be so.

Bella still felt at this time he was out of her life forever. She had always been adamant about not accepting gifts or anything else from him. As hard as she worked to get her life back on some normal track, I could understand the anger and pain this money would cause.

I like this outtake, but I can understand why it was cut. My favorite part would have to be when Bella & Edward go to the house for The Vote & Esme’s fixing the door. (Anytime we get more Esme is good by me.) Thanks to Stephenie for posting these on her website for us to enjoy!

I liked to see how Bella handled the “scholarship” and I LOVE the tossing of the box into the window. I agree that it would have a strange fit in the book, but still…I can’t get enough of these outtakes.

This was GREAT! I love reading more stuff on TWILIGHT, especially about Bella and Edward. I am glad though, that Stephenie decided to take this outtake out of the story. It would have ruined the suspense, of Edward coming back or not.
If there are any more outtakes please post them.I love reading them.

I didn’t think that this outtake was all that in a bag of chips. If they did then it really wouldn’t matter to me.

We get to see quite a bit of Bella’s sarcastic side in this outtake. Did you find this outtake funny, as Stephenie did?
I ddin’t find this outtake funny, I found it a little sacastic though.

Were you surprised that Edward “cheated” by interfering in Bella’s life in such a tangible way?
No I wansn’t surprised because he’s edward, he had his sister kid nap her for the weekend. of course I wasn’t surprised that’s just what edward does.

If you were Bella – would you have reacted the way she did to Edward’s “scholarship”?
No I wouldn’t have reacted the way that bella did. The girl is slow if she doesn’t want him to buy her anything the least she could do is let him pay for her education.

  • lanie

ok i love this it was funny i would have done the exact same thing she did!it would have been nice to be left in cuz it shows that edward just wants her to have a normal life and go to colleage and knows she cant pay for it not showing he cares just trying to insure a human life for her im glad they didnt put it in cuz i like this new moon but oh well.and plus maybe he thinks if she goes to colleage she will forget him and everything to help her with the process of getting over him

I Love Bella’s sarcastic side in this. I think New Moon was a very serious, sad book and leaving this in would have made it an easier read in my opinion. I think we all pretty much knew Edward was coming back ,so why not throw that in. It’s typical Edward to cheat like that, and typical Bella to react so strongly.
I love the bit with the window and Esme; I love Esme :) .
Bella went up in my estimations after reading that. She’s more sarcastic and funny and I loved her anger in a twisted way lol.

I think it shouldn’t have been cut, and i’m with SM, it was funny and showed Bella’s sarcastic side :D .

omg! i cant stop giggling….its not funny ind a “hahahahaha” way its just that when you read it you cant help but grin. its so like edward to protect and look after her after he left to protect her…i have no idea why they left it out. its would have made the book so much better. i love it

I love this, especially that we got to see more of Esme. The series is sooooo Bella/Edward-centric (and don’t get me wrong, I love me some Bella/Edward), that Jasper, Emmet, Rose, and Esme (even Carlisle and Alice, and they get waaaay more page-time than the others), too often seem more like placeholders than real characters, so anything that gives us more of them is wonderful. Plus, I just thought it was funny, her reactions are so , and I can so see Edward doing this. He said she’d never see him again, and even as I was reading it I was like, yeah right, these two have an Epic Love Story, and Epic Love stories always end with the lovers together (they may be dead together as in Romeo & Juliet, but they are definitely together), there’s no way he’s going to stay away completely, and this seemed like the perfect way for him to be out of her life but still looking out for her. Had it continued, I’m sure Renee would have won the lottery, or Charlie would have found out he’s been getting underpaid by $5K/year for the last 20 years and was going to receive his back pay in one lump some, or something. One way or another, Edward would have gotten her that money.
