‘Twilight Outtake: ‘Flight’ – AKA ‘Shopping with Alice’

Jasper drove one-handed, carelessly it seemed, but the muscular car flew forward with perfect precision. Alice sat with me on the black leather back seat. Somehow, during the night, my head had ended up against her granite neck, her cool arms enfolding me, her cheek pressed against the top of my head. The front of her thin cotton shirt was cold, damp with my tears. Now and then, if my breathing grew uneven, she would murmur soothingly; in her fast, high voice, the encouragements sounded like singing. To keep myself calm, I focused on the touch of her cold skin; it felt like a physical connection to Edward.

Oh crap! Another outtake I cannot view on my computer. It says something about Adobe Acrobat:(

  • Maddie

    Who is Carol?

  • tinga1911

I loved that! The road trip felt mych more… real, I guess. And it brought out new qualities in Alice, there was almost a motherly sort of edge to the way she was taking care of Bella and it was extemely sweet to see that kind of side to Alice’s personality.

  • Nikki

I believe Carol was the original name for Rosalie.
I have read this part before and really think that it should have been in the book.

  • amanda

To Maddie; If you read closly on Stephenie’s homepage you’ll find out that Rosalie was first named Carol, but Steph changed her name to the better-fitting Rosalie. :)

The outtake is really awsome. I read this so many months ago and it was nice to read it again. It really tells a lot about Alice’s person.

  • Chris

I think this should have really been added into the book….it is a good outtake

  • anya

can someone please tell me where I can find all the outtakes?

  • anya

    ok, found it! :-)

  • brooke

I wanted to respond to the first post about needing Adobe, all you do is click on whatever it says about Adobe in order to read alot of things that are printed that way on the web. You don’t have to purchase anything and it is very safe to run. I have downloaded & used it for yrs. with every new computer in order to read most things. Once you download it then it will be there the next time you need it.

  • kerri

this is a very vital part of alice’s kind nature i think stephenie should have left it in it such a important scence it shows how vunnerable bella is and how caring alice is to everyone …

  • Sarah

This is so good!! Why did she cut it !? It makes more sence of Bella and Alices friendship and how it developed. It was weird in the book how bella says – in the hotel room- ‘and we were friends now’ because they haddent realy spent much close time together, so this helps to understand that alot.

Lovely! I love these outtakes! I think Stephenie built up Alice’s character enough that we were not amiss without this part of the story but it adds such a compassionate dimension to her character. It also flows better…Alice was such a shopper and I’d always wondered how she manuevered through malls…. Either way…the outtake really gave insight to the depth of how far the family was willing to go to protect Bella. The clothes, not leaving her in the bathroom, and how Jasper became closer to Bella in the process – like he finally GOT how important Bella was to Edward and not someone to take lightly. I really appreciated the line – you are part of our coven now. Great outtake!

  • Susan

The outtake should have been in the book. We actually get a great vision of how thoughtful Alice and Jasper were towards Bella….They knew what she was going through, but also knew what Bella needed to stay strong… shows how well that family takes care of one another as well as how much Bella has been accepted into the family.

  • Katie

I really loved it! I wish stephenie had left it in there. But I also Loved how you got to finally see what it was like with Bella and Alice shopping because it was always mentioned in the book but never really revealed.I also think it let bella learn a little about what it would be like to finally become a Cullen, with all the unlimited money and secrecy.Plus if she had this part in the book, I think they would have added more best-friend relationship to Alive and Bella in the movie.

Aww. . . I read this one already. . . there all on the site http://www.stephaniemeyer.com

  • spiritblue

i read somewhere that the publisher also asked stephenie to remove some parts of all the books…i guess that is their job.. i too wish it had been left in.. i don’t care if the books had been a thousand pages… lol….

  • Jenniffer C

i liked this outtake a lot. you get to see more of alice’s and bella’s relationship.

  • sarah

were can you find other outtakes??

  • jenb

yet another great outtake that I wish was in the book! oh well I’m glad SM’s posted them for us to enjoy.

all the outtakes can be found on her website http://www.stepheniemeyer.com there’s also FAQ’s for the books.

  • ashley

    Jasper is hilarious!!

  • Cathy

After reading the deleted part I have to ask why the editor wanted any pages deleted! I’m quite sure that the price of the book would have absorbed the cost of a couple extra pages. It gives more depth and perception to both Alice and Jasper. You were able to see more of their “human protective side”. The shopping scene was halarious and Jaspers comments when he saw them coming with all the packages was just like any man would have said. Stephenie should have put her foot down and refused to delete any of the pages she wrote. Just like the deleted pages where Rosalie saved Emmett and what all happened. It should have never been deleted.

i loved it sooooooo much especaly the anemic part but witnoath is carol is that like rosalie? but yeah i shouldn’t have been deleted :(

  • http://live.com alice101

this was amazing.Jasper really shows his sensitive side towards bella. He is also very funny. And alice how she keeps Bella by her side is soooooo sweet!!!!!!!!!! It’s a shame that they took it out it would of been awsome and it would given some insite on the sensitive nature of a vampire, even though Alice is already sweet, we could of seen the most recent vegetarian (JASPER)to the family cope being near a human and taking care of her.WHY DO THEY DELETE THE GOOD ONES?????!!!!!!!

  • Dana

Carol Cna’t Be Rosalie in the outtake before carol is mentioned it says Bella pulled off Rodalie’s tight pants or whtever but then later in the hotel room it says carol……. anybody with me here?

  • leleh

Although i can see why this is an outtake i do agree that taking this out means that when Alice gains more sceans in the book (around book 3) it is a surprising how she acts. I felt like Alices true Character sort of jumps out at you because in new moon you don’t really get to see “happy chipper Alice” because she is so tence about Bella and then Edward.

  • crystal

dudee this is a great outtake they shoulda kept it in there isnt enough alice in the books D=
