VARIETY: NEW MOON MOVIE DEFINITELY SHOOTING IN ITALY

“Twilight” sequel “New Moon” has landed its first overseas sale, to Italy, where the Chris Weitz-helmed vampire romancer is partly set.

Eagle Pictures, which released “Twilight” locally, announced on Tuesday that it has reupped with Summit Entertainment for the sequel, which will shoot in the ancient Tuscan city of Volterra for two weeks in May.

In Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling “New Moon,” Volterra is the town where the powerful Volturi vampire coven resides.Shooting on the pic begins in Vancouver in March, with “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart reprising their roles.

Eagle Pictures, which is owned by Tunisian mogul Tarak Ben Ammar and has close ties with Summit, announced that “New Moon” will be released in Italy on Nov. 20, day-and-date with its Stateside release.

“Twilight” took $15 million in Italy, making it the country’s ninth highest grosser in 2008, after “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” and ahead of Matteo Garrone’s “Gomorrah.”

To date, “Twilight” has grossed more than $350 million worldwide.

OME!!! I am so excited about them filming in Italy. And it’s cool that the release date is still set at Nov 20th and Italy will share the release date with the US. Road trip to Italy in May? to stalk the cast? Who is with me? (totally kidding here please do not stalk the cast).What do you think of this article?

    Hey D – I don’t want to stalk either but is oggling okay? I’ve been dream-surfing hotels in Volterra just for kicks (the pictures are FANTASTIC!!) but it’s crazy how badly I really want to go. Hey, Could we get a group rate?

    let’s try a group rate and while we’re at it, let’s ask summit if we can have a set visit, if we keep our hands to ourselves. i know that would be difficult cause who doesn’t want to cop a feel of rob or jackson.

    Wow! They will be filming New Moon in Volterra! This is great news as I heard originally that filming would take place in Rome. We will get to see the actual “Piazza” as described in Stephenie’s book. I am so excited now.

    I’m with ya, sherunswithvampires, I really want to go. When they were filming in Oregon, I had driven right through there on the way to WA to visit my cousin. I hadn’t been that into then–i think I had been reading it on that trip–but it was the PERFECT timing. I was so mad when i figured it out. Hopefully this time we’ll time a vacation to WA at the right time when they’re filiming in Oregon. :D

    I’m so excited that they are filming in Volterra!!! I live in Sicily and my friends and I will probably take a road trip in May!!! I can’t wait to see the city of Volterra!!

    Wait…if I can’t stalk the cast, can I at least stand in the corner of Robert’s room and see if he talks in his sleep!? Check out what books he’s reading? And, you know, maybe kick the tar out of any little chickie he’s got in there with him??? lol

    In reality though, wouldn’t it be terrific to be allowed on set over there?

    I’m totally up for a trip to Italy. I totally wouldn’t stalk the cast but I would love to be in the crowd for the festival! That would probably be the highlight of my life thus far. I can’t wait for November… sigh.. it’s so far away! Good thing I have TA for daily updates to sedate me till then!:)

    you guys are so lucky because your old enough to go on road trips and see this stuff. as well as actually living near there! i live in england so its pretty hard to get there, do any of you know the release date for england?
    and wow! volterra! cant wait to see the description stephanie made of that place, i bet the film will be excellent!

    That’s great news! Rob mentioned that he wanted to go to Italy to film New Moon, however he thought it was unlikely. Well, Rob, good new for you! Chris is making this movie as authentic was possible. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

    me and my friends are going to pisa, and volterra is just 50 km away. so we are gonna go when they shoot the movie…
    how can i find out where they are staying? and when they are exactly gonna be there

    wow!!!! i can’t actually put in words the feeling i have right now!!! i am new to this Twilighter thing but i have fallen head over heals for everything that has to do with it from the very first line of the first book. i live in Greece and i so much needed New Moon to be shooting in Italy, excactly as the book says, that it took me a few minutes to realise it is actually going to happen!!

    please, please, if you happen to come across any more details about anything, please post it!!!

    i also want to make an road trip to italy – first to see maybe a little bit of the shooting there and second because the city is beautiful. But i only knew that the shooting should be 2 weeks in may but when exactly? I sadly don’t know this information.
    Where can i find it out or whom can i ask?
    Do somebody know the date?

    im going everywhere in italy Milian i think and i know Flourances
    and some other place
    but i really want ,well i fantasies bumping into the cast haha
    and have dinner with Robert pattinson and Kellen and Nikki , Kristen stewart haha

    my girls and i are also planing a road trip in volterra..we almost reserved the hotel but then found out that’s not certain that the shooting will take place in volterra, so we kinda have to wait..but we are definitly going, it may be 500km…XD but for eddie it’s worth it..
    anyone has a clue of the right dates and city?..

    I live close by and I want to
    see them in action.
    I’ve gone to so many sites and I’ve heard
    anywhere from the 18th to the 26th of May..
    if that helps but I’m not sure. I can’t find any
    site where they confirm the dates….=/

    I have a tripped booked for Italy in May (booked last year in august, lol) and as far as I have heard the cast will be filming for two weeks. My friends is in the draw to travel over to Italy and visit the set and in the Terms and Conditions for the trip it said that “they should be available for travel around the 26th of May 2009″. so around that date (I doubt thats the first date thought, probably around the 18th of May.)

    Can’t wait for New Moon though.

    Hey I live here in Pisa, but won’t be able to make down to Montepulciano to see the cast. This really sucks! Just when I have the opportunity, it just slips away…..:(
