VARIETY SAYS ‘NEW MOON’ COULD OPEN TO $80 MILLION
In a very interesting new article, Variety is stating that The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which we all know hits theaters on Friday, could bring in a whopping $80 million domestically on opening weekend! That is more than $10 million more than Twilight opened to last year. Read more from Variety below:

Summit Entertainment’s sequel “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is looking to feed on the bloodstream of the worldwide box office as it unspools today in its first pack of territories before opening in the U.S. at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
The question is how big the sequel can go after last year’s surprise performance.A year ago this weekend, the industry was stunned when “Twilight” opened to $69.7 million domestically, eventually grossing $191.5 million. The “Twilight” opening, combined with the strong bow of Warner Bros.’ “Sex and the City” just months before, upended the theory that female auds don’t usually fuel big openings.
There’s plenty of evidence suggesting that “New Moon” could open well north of “Twilight’s” domestic debut, which could mean a domestic opening of $80 million or even more. Sequel stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner in the title roles.

I think, hands down, that New Moon will rock Twilight at the box office. I’m no good with numbers so I won’t even throw a guess out there, but $80 million sounds pretty impressive. It’ll be interesting to hear the numbers next week! What do you think about Variety’s prediction? Do you have a guess as to what the film will make in it’s opening weekend?
