Borders isn’t the only place to be for midnight DVD release parties – Wal-Mart has just announced that they, too, will be hosting Twilight Events on March 20th, in honor of the ‘Twilight’ DVD release on March 21st. Wal-Mart will be providing DVD showing party ideas, giveaways, and be having an exciting exclusive: “Star Talk” with Taylor Lautner while he’s on the set of ‘New Moon’. Read below for more details:

“Fans of all ages have fallen in love with the Twilight series and we will bring to as many as possible special access to the stars, great priced products and additional, memorable activities around this DVD movie release, both in our stores and online,” says Greg Hall, vice president, Merchandising at Walmart.

Behind the Scenes with Taylor Lautner (aka Jacob Black) on BlogTalkRadio
In partnership with BlogTalkRadio, Walmart will host actor Taylor Lautner, who plays “Jacob Black” in Twilight, on the “Stardish Radio” program March 9, 2009 at 9 pm (EST). Speaking from the set of The Twilight Saga’s New Moon, Taylor will take questions from fans “logged in” to BlogTalkRadio with hosts Jo Ann Kubasek (Stardish Radio) and Amy Clark (MomAdvice).

“BlogTalkRadio is excited to join forces with Walmart to bring Twilight fans direct access to one of the year’s hottest new actors,” said Alan Levy, CEO of BlogTalkRadio. “By logging onto our live broadcast, they’ll be able to interact with other members of the hit film’s rapidly-expanding global community to talk about the movie and hear directly from Taylor about his experience.”

Midnight Twilight Events and In-Store Giveaways
Walmart plans to give fans thirsting for more Twilight a good reason to be at its 24-hour stores late Friday evening Mar. 20 as they await the midnight DVD movie release. Among store activities will be ideas and products for fans looking to host their own Twilight viewing party. And, especially for Twilight super fans, Walmart has reserved exclusive Twilight gifts for those first 50 fans in line to purchase the DVD movie at each 24-hour store.
Send an “eBite,” see exclusive movie footage, download your Twilight widget.

I really like Wal-Mart’s midnight release party ideas, but I still think I’m sticking with Borders.

What do you think of Wal-Mart’s ideas? Will you go to them for a midnight release party, or do you have other plans?

“Walmart has reserved exclusive Twilight gifts for those first 50 fans in line to purchase the DVD movie at each 24-hour store.”

It looks like it’ll only be at the 24-hour locations. However, I went to the official Twilight movie website and typed in my Zip Code and it gave me the Walmart located nearby even though it is NOT a 24-hour store. Unfortunately, there are no 24-hour stores nearby…so, I’ll have to stick with Borders.

But, I have a question. Did any of you pre-order from Border’s? Will we be able to pick up our DVDs that day if we had it “shipped to store”? Or are we going to be forced to buy one (if they still have them) and then return the one we’ve pre-ordered?

I just called my local 24 hour Walmart here in Ft Wright Ky and the lady told me it was going to be on the 17th, that doesn’t make sense….maybe she didn’t know what she was talking about, why would they had a dvd release party before its even released?

  • sterlingstreak

My hubby pre-ordered one for me for Valentine’s Day (who needs chocolate? I got flowers AND Twilight!!)from Borders. I’m supposed to be able to pick it up at the store on the 21st of March. Kinda suprised at Walmart’s DVD date tho. Borders claimed that the DVD wouldn’t be available to the public (unless you pre-ordered) till the middle of April. Ahh well. That’s allright. If I show up to the Walmart event that night, my ‘Annonymous’ state will be blown to heck, and my kids would never let me live it down. Hmmmn… there’s a thought. Get Twilight perks from WM AND embarass my tween/teens? I just may go after all! *lol*

are we allowed to get into these parties even if we don’t buy the dvd?
bc i’m going to the hot topic release party but that starts at 10a.m..
so do we have to buy the dvd from wal-mart to get in?

  • awesomeness

i am so going to be there :)

  • wickedxxangel

hmm……I went to the Twilight movie page and put in my area code and walmart didn’t even come up. just borders and hot topic. I am about to go crazy trying to get info so I can be there. My local store did again confirm the 17th for the release party and told me to come by the store this friday and there would be stuff posted about the up coming party. I am 33 and have never once been to a dvd release party and I am not about to miss this one lmao!

My Wal-mart is not a 24 hour store. But they are having a little party and will stay open until 12:30 a.m. to sell the DVD.

  • Disappointed

We went to the Wal-Mart party tonight and it was NOTHING like what we were told it would be. One of the employees told my girlfriend that they were having food brought in, there would be games with prizes, give aways, promo items for the first 50 DVD’s sold, etc.

We told our 6th grade daughters about the parties and they were ecstatic! We went up there, 1/2 hour before it started, to make sure they could get in there in time and there were 5 people already there. They served chips and Pace picante salsa with cake and punch and then brought out soda. They passed out the mini folders and that was it. There were no games, no prizes and no handouts for the first 50 DVD’s sold. At 11:30, the kids started to assemble a line in front of the register in the room where the “party” was held and at 12 am told them they had to go to electronics to purchase the videos! After the people filtered out into electronics to make their purchases, I inquired about the door prizes and the games and an employee told me he wasn’t sure when they were going to play the games (it’s after 12 am, now), but he’d go check on it. He never came back. Another employee asked me if I needed help and I asked her where the door prizes were and she told me that the T-shirts that they were supposed to give away never arrived. Color us disappointed that we didn’t just make the drive to Borders, like everyone else did. The girls were happy to get their videos, but were disappointed that they didn’t get to play the games or the see the other give-aways that we were told about.

There had to be at least 2,000 people in our Wal-Mart tonight. The ‘party’ was a joke. We all stood in lines and waited for 3 hours. There were no broadcasts of the Taylor Lautner special that they claimed they were going to be broadcasting, etc. They did have cake, you had to get out of line to go get it. That’s it. They gave these silly little tiny goody bag things (small, very small–a joke) to the first 50 people in the lines. There were no games, nada. You could buy t-shirts and stuff, but they were pretty much picked over/sold out already. I was about #40 in our line (there were 3 long lines stretching around the store) and by the time I got up to the dvds, they had already ran out of the 2 disc special editions. They were apparently letting everyone buy 5 each, crazy as they had told everyone over the loud speaker at midnight that they had a very limited supply of the 2 disc special edition ones. We should have been at Borders and will be for anything else like this…

  • No Release

Went to the Walmart in our zipcode as it’s the only one in town and 24 hours. Though the website stated it would hold the release party. It didn’t happen. Management were clueless. had to be told by customers that the store was listed as a release party site. The supervisor then tried to cover himself by stating they never received the promo items for the party. (He’d already admitted to not knowing about it. Long story short… they “discovered” the promo items that was labeled for management late Saturday. They were giving out the folders to patrons at the store entrance on Saturday and Sunday. Management never bothered to look for it that evening. There were quite a number of disappointed adults and children. By the time we were all told this, it was too late to drive over to the next town where Borders, Hot Topic, and the other walmart are located.
