WHAT'S NEXT FOR ROBERT PATTINSON?

WHAT’S NEXT FOR ROBERT PATTINSON?

Variety.com has just posted a great and candid interview with Robert Pattinson. He talks about issues they had with his makeup in Twilight, why he felt it was necessary to change some aspects of Edward’s personality, and so much more.

Brit actor Robert Pattinson’s life changed the instant Catherine Hardwicke cast him as Edward Cullen, the vampire lover in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series.

“How old are you?” asks Bella (Kristen Stewart), a new student at Forks High.
“17,” he says.

“How long have you been 17?”

“A while.”

Pattinson has seen the way women react to him as Edward at Comic-Con and festivals. (They tend to scream.) In this flip-cam interview, he talks about how tricky playing it was to play this kind of swoony leading man, figuring out the makeup, his music, his upcoming films Little Ashes and How to Be, and the new movie he starts in January, playing Dennis Hopper’s grandson in writer-director Brian Horiuchi’s L.A.-set multi-generational marriage drama Parts Per Billion, also starring Olivia Thrilby and Rosario Dawson. Hollywood is sending him scripts, but everyone it seems, is waiting to see how Twilight fares when it opens November 21:

This was by far one of my favorite interviews. The woman interviewing him asked some really good questions and Rob had some great things to say in response. I was very, very shocked that Rob said his favorite book of the series was New Moon. Not only because his character is in the story so little, but because a good majority of the Twilight population that I’ve talked to regards New Moon as their least favorite book.

What did you think of this interview? Were you surprised by anything Rob said?

  1. Jenniffer responded:

He looks so tired! I thought that was a good interview, I totally agree with him saying that movies should be first about the script, I can’t wait to see him in Twilight and future movies! :)

  2. Ana responded:

The book was my least favorite too, I didn’t hate it, I liked it because you see what Bella goes through with out Edward there, and then in the end you see that their love just becomes to the title that has come to be, which is “epic”. That NOTHING can keep them apart and their love is SO strong that they would literally die for one another. But, it wasn’t bad at all.

I think the reason he says that he liked it was because we see this part of Edward that is out of character for him. He gets to play Edward in a different way, and even though I will be bauling my eyes out, I can’t wait to see him play in New Moon, we’re going to see BEYOND phenomanol acting from his part. We see a very dark part of Edward, and from what I’ve heard of Melissa Rosenberg interviews, she’s going to try to keep him and the Cullens in the movie a little bit more than the book. I want to see Edward suffering and wollowing in sorrow in the back of an alley in South America, I want to see the pain he went through. It’ll be heart breaking to watch, but good to see.

  3. Rebecca responded:

This is by far the BEST interview I have seen. He really opened up alot and was very laid-back. The interviewer did an amazing job in making him comfortable and flowing through the questions! Really great! He’s a really great guy that’s humorous and humble.

  4. kittiebeatz responded:

O M G! Loved this one (made with a flip-cam!). He seemed a lot less stressed out then I’ve seen in other ones. Poor guy, he’s always so hard on himself. I hope the crowd isn’t too crazy when I see him in Chicago on Wednesday.

  5. coco responded:

Nice interview. I thought he looked great…and more confident than usual. Which he most certainly should be because he’s very talented and also very handsome! :)

  6. shannon17 responded:

This interview is one of my favorites. In this intimate and calm setting, Rob was able to answer the questions thoughtfully and rationally. I found his answers fascinating and insightful.

The interview really makes me rethink attending scream-fest public appearances. While I like the excitement of seeing the actors and being in the same room, I don’t really gain as much as I do from interviews like this one. I ended up feeling uncomfortable for them.

Rob does look tired. I hope he gets some time to unwind before he starts his new movie in January. I don’t want him to get burned out.

  7. amy responded:

Definitely one of my favorite interviews. I loved how she had the camera positioned so it looked like he was looking right at you :) . He really seemed better rested and I loved watching him play with his hair again. He always seems so genuine and interested in answering the questions the best he can. He really did well being one on one like that instead of a screaming crowd.

  8. Becky responded:

New Moon is my favorite book too!

  9. Krystyna responded:

I LOVED this interview. He does look more comfortable with this interview and I love his laugh. The questions were great and so were his answers. He’s just so lovable. *sigh* and I love that he digs New Moon that was my favorite. I guess my order would be New Moon, Midnight Sun (so far), Eclipse, Twilight and Breaking Dawn :) I can’t wait for the movie to come out already jeebus 10-11 days….

  10. kn responded:

I was actually really surprised by this video. It was strange of him to say that he didn’t think he did a very good job as portraying Edward and this really surprised me. But he did seem to be rather uncomfortable by this interview, I think. I strongly dislike seeing a celebrity I like using swear words to be honest, and I’m having mixed feelings about that. I know to some it is not a big deal, but to me it is. It was also kind of cool hearing his real accent.

  11. kerri responded:

Ana, I agree 100%! New Moon is painful for me to read! I hate it when Jacob is even brought up because, come on, you have this beyond amazing man that takes care of you, loves you unconditionally and then theirs Jake. He’s like everyones younger brother, fun to hang with, annoying and too blunt but he’s NO Edward Cullen. I understand that Stephanie wrote both loves for Bella to represent her human exsistance vs. her future exsistance. I really wished we could have seen the pain Edward went through. We got to glimps Alices stress and grief over her brother, Rosalies smug callousness and even Esme and Carlisles pain, but not so much Edwards. He cracks and becomes the monster he always believed himself to be, minus the actual murders. But Im excited to see the reunion scene in Vulturi, my favorite scene to read!

  12. Unbearable responded:

I have read all the books at least 5 times, well, I listen to the audiobooks on my way to work, I have a long commute and they keep me company. The first time I read New Moon I cried so much when Edward leaves that I had to keep on reading until he came back (took me all night but I was so sad I just could not sleep). The next times I read it I just could not read that part cause I would start crying again even though I know what happens! So I just skip till the end of the book when Alice comes back. I think Rob likes this book because it is a very interesting side to his character to play, I can understand that. But OMG was it painful to read!

  13. unbearable responded:

Yes, I agree, the climax of New Moon is worth the pain the rest of the book puts you through!

Is there a second part to this interview? It felt it got cut off at the end…

  14. Emilie responded:

I love that Rob loves “New Moon”. It shows that he truly understands the depth of the love that binds Edward and Bella. And there had to be a “New Moon”…that is the only way Stephenie could show us the extent and depth of Edward’s love for Bella. And when reading “New Moon” we as the readers actually walk down the road with Bella and feel true feelings of loss, depression and devastation. Only then can the true value of their love be experienced. You know the old saying “absence makes the heart grow fonder”? “New Moon” is the best example of this ever! And when Edward and Bella reunite in the end, all the pain is worth it…and with all the pain comes and even greater understanding of what they share…it is an essential part of the story that really holds it all together.

  15. Cate responded:

What strikes me about him is that he is so self-effacing. It would be easy to assume that his humility is an act, since it seems like almost all women respond to him so dramatically (how could he not know how beautiful he is?), but especially after watching this interview I really think that he genuinely does not think that highly of himself. The moment where he says he understands what Stephenie Meyer meant about him not being a good boyfriend, because, like Edward, he doesn’t think he is actually deserving of anyone’s interest or affection, and would just mess another person up if they got close to him, was very revealing. It strikes me as sort of sad that he feels that way about himself, but perhaps going into Hollywood with lower self-esteem that he really should have will help keep him grounded, even with thousands of girls screaming his name wherever he goes. What fantastic casting though- self-hating like Edward, highly intelligent and thoughtful, especially for a guy his age. Great interview.

  16. Jen responded:

wow. Can i marry him now? Seriously he is so awesome

  17. VanessaC responded:

Wow. This interview is so amazingly great I’m really at a loss for words… and Rob has to be the single most amazing person alive. He’s got EVERYTHING… looks, intelligence, an amazing amount of humility, humor, an incredible amount of depth… the list goes on and on and on. This interview was just…. ugh I can’t describe it, but I LOVED it (that’s putting it mildly). I’ve watched it like 5 times now, it’s amazing, and he is most definitely “incredibly, inhumanly good-looking” if anyone ever was. OME I really just can’t even talk about this, words don’t do it justice… Robert Pattinson is by far the most incredible person in the world, and what makes it so sad (but even more perfect at the same time) is that he’s SO humble and down-to-earth and really thinks so little of himself- almost to a fault. It’s crazy, and although I’m VERY careful not to ever confuse “Edward” the character with Robert the real person, I must say, that’s something they REALLY have in common- being so amazing yet thinking of themselves as being completely worthless. That’s one of the many, MANY reasons I think there is absolutely not a single other person in the world who could have been a better person for the role- amazingly good looks aside, his personality just fits so well with Edward’s… anyway, this post is going on forever, so I’m just gonna end it now b4 it goes on even longer :)

  18. Kim responded:

Thank you so much for posting such a great interview…I like seeing him in a natural state and seeming very open and honest about his occupation of being an actor and what is important to him. He seeems to have a very humble attitude about his work and himself. It makes him even more likeable.

  19. Jesse responded:

I am also like Rob, in the, way that I don’t think much of myself. Like Edward says to Bella “You don’t see yourself very clearly, you know.” Rob defiantly doesn’t see himself clearly. But, what he said about how hes not good enough for someone to get close to him, that is just a defense mechanism, its just a way to keep people out. I know cause im the master of it. =P Anyone, that has eyes can clearly see he is handsome. Unlike most of you other Rob fans, I don’t have a crush on him, and even I can see he is handsome. Part of what I like about him, is just his mannerisms the way he is timid, and captivating. He just seems like someone, Id enjoy having a conversation with. New Moon, was my least favorite of the series. Probably because I went through a depression, similar too Bella, I was catatonic and stuff. I still suffer from depression, Her reasons were different. But just semi-living through that depression and feelings again, is painful and eye opening. I always want to skip it, but I just cant, its a very important book, even if it isnt my favorite. I always want to rush to the end of the book to get to the part with Edward, but I dont cause I know, I wont enjoy it, unless I suffer along with Bella. When they reunite is such a powerful scene. Even though I dont like new moon as much, you still need it, cause I dont think the characters would of appreciated each other as much, If they didnt go through it. When they do the movie, I dont want to see that last part changed, it doesnt need to be, its perfect how it is. I hate places with big crowds and alot of people, but I cant wait too see rob on nov 14. I hope I get in, and Ill be the only fan, not screaming and acting crazy. =P

  20. Emma responded:

    ok i’ve a few things to day…

    1. ROBERT’S GONNA BE IN A GAY FILM!?!?!?!?! eh, i’ll go see it.

    2. i totally agree with his view on the script coming first in a good movie.

    3. alright, i get that he has the whole “just rolled outa bed” look going but really! he looks like he hasnt slept in days! LET THE POOR BOY GET SOME SLEEP!!!!!

    ….that is all

  21. Caroline responded:

I agree with Ana I really thing they should put a little more Edward in New Moon so that you can see the pain that he is going through trying to stay away from Bella. It will be a great acting challenge for Rob and he would go an awesome job at it.
This is by far the best interview with Rob i’ve seen to date. He seems alot more comfortable with her and she asks some good questions unlike the silly questions places like MTV ask. We find out more about his character in Twilight as well as more about Rob as an actor and the films he likes to do. It seems like he really has his head on straight and knows how to look for good parts which makes me so happy to see his future films!

  22. edward x lover responded:

I agree with Rob New Moon was my favorite too. I like it because Bella and Edward discover that no matter how far apart they are they will always love eachother and nothing can ever change that. It’s like the epitamy of their relationship.

  23. Dawn responded:

I’m so happy that Rob likes New Moon. Personally I really liked that book and I totally agree with him about Stephenie Meyers writing. I literally cried reading the months pass, where as in other books like what he said “It could be very tacky.” Thank you Rob! New Moon is my favorite also(: But I liked Twilight just as much. haha

  24. jade responded:

    omg he is sooo handsome

  25. MrsKittyFig responded:

I was much more impressed with this interview than most of the live-public interviews he has done. I saw much more of who he is rather than his nerves. When he is nervous he is a ding a ling! Anyone catch the Jay Leno show? Of course what 22 year old guy wouldn’t be acting like that with Heidi Klum sitting next to him. That interview was pure nerves, I don’t know how he didn’t just throw up. Here, it was awesome, it was good to hear his voice and see him looking more comfortable talking about himself. Some people really have a hard time with that. He seems a real good guy! Way to go Rob! I for one can separate you from Edward and I do see a difference. You are an awesome actor, truely!

  26. emily responded:

wow that was a really really good interview!! it actually has depth. other stuff that i have seen ask the same basic questions…gets boring. i dont know how they can do it answering question after question after question. from the interview i definitley get that robert pattinson is extremely smart and well read. the way he talks is amazingg and its admirable. i also like his belief in script first then movie especially today in hollywood. so many of the movies coming up are crap…its like what is this?!? robert’s heart is in a good place. keep up the good work dude!!!!

new moon is my favorite book of the series too!! i told all my friends the same exact thing when i read it a while ago. those pages with just the months on it were soo amazingly powerful because it is soo sad. and even though edward isn’t in the book that much, like pattinson said, it makes the ending so much better because all the while you are longing for his return.

  27. Nikki responded:

New moon’s also my favorite book, it shows how heartbreaking it is for them to be apart and i assume every reader felt that heartbreak thats what made it good for me. It’s the most emotional book out of the series (for me) and i felt that too

  28. Midori responded:

I liked Rob’s responses to the questions asked by the interviewer. Also, I like New Moon, it is my favorite because of the emotions involved in the story. I felt the pain that Edward had to endure to protect Bella. The love they share is so stronger that distance wouldn’t effect it. Rob is going to do a most amazing job in portraying Edward once again in New Moon. We have much to look forward to with Eclipse following. As for Breaking Dawn, we don’t know if that book will be made into a movie. It’s to far off.

  29. Catherine responded:

you want to know why i absolutly LOVE this???!
because robert seems so honest the whole time.
like he’s speaking from his heart.
like it isn’t just publicity talk, he really means it.
and he answered a lot of questions ive never heard before.
usually there the same ones;; but these were different.
    UGHH I LOVE HIM.!!!
