YAHOO: TWILIGHT IN THE TOP 10 BOX OFFICE MOVIES OF 2008

YAHOO: TWILIGHT IN THE TOP 10 BOX OFFICE MOVIES OF 2008

Yahoo has listed the top ten box office movies of 2008 and guess which movie is included? I bet you have no idea!

In 2008, superheroes, spies, and animated animals dominated the box office, with moviegoers flocking to theaters to see a little bit of everything, from new heroes to old favorites. Here are the top ten highest grossing films at the domestic box office this year.

9. TWILIGHT Total Gross: $158,461,000Fueled by an enthusiastic fanbase, Stephanie Meyer’s hit literary phenomenon jumped from the page to the big screen to take a bite out of the annual box office, grabbing the number 9 spot during the last weeks of the year.

I am not the least bit surprised Twilight is on this list. Go Twilight. I hope the movie continues to make money and blows the competition away. What do you think?

    I totaly agree!
I hope it make much more money.

    Go job twilight!
    :)

  2. michaela responded:

i can’t wait to see all the losers faces that thought Twilight wasn’t going to be a “GOOD” movie. . .well just look at it now!! it’s in yahoo’s top ten!! those losers better suck it up because Twilight is going to be around for a while. . .WAY TO GO TWILIGHT!!

  3. MOAR Edward responded:

I think it’s impressive Twilight landed @the #9 spot, esp considering it was released in November!!! Imagine how much it would’ve made if it was released much earlier in 2008!!!!!!!!

  4. Rachel responded:

Umm…just because it grossed SOO much money, doesn’t mean it was a “quality” film!! No offense, but if I keep reading these posts about Twilight being a “GREAT MOVIE” I’m going to frickin’ lose it!! You guys…it WAS NOT a GREAT MOVIE!!!! If we DON’T ask for a BETTER SCREENPLAY (closer to the book!!), BETTER ACTING (c’mon! ALL involved need to do BETTER in the next 3 movies!!), BETTER SPECIAL EFFECTS (no one can say the special effects were even BELIEVEABLE!), BETTER MAKE-UP (I could SEE the caked on white base on Carlisle at every close up!!!) THEN WE WON’T GET IT!!! Twilight was a LOW - BUDGET film!!! And it is ONLY because of us DIE-HARD BOOK fans that that movie was catapulted into one of the highest grossing films of the year!! It WASN’T because it was a great movie!! THE BOOKS WERE GREAT!!! And now it’s up to US to make sure that SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT, STEPHENIE MEYER, MELLISSA ROSENBERG AND CHRIS WEITZ STEP IT UP BIG TIME!! Cause I don’t want to settle for anything less than FANTASTIC for the next several movies!! As Devoted and long-time fans, WE DESERVE BETTER!!!

  5. Brianna responded:

    I second Rachel’s comment.

  6. kerri responded:

Feel better Rachel? LOL. I agree 100%! The only actors I praised were Rob, Kristen, the guy who played Charlie, and Jackson really captured their characters! I thought they did great capturing their characters. But Im with Rachel on everything else. I was surprised to be honest at Summits New Moon budget. I thought they’d get much much more. Dont really get that.

  7. neetabug responded:

I think we all pretty much agree that only the main actors were doing their job - and we’ve all had a crack at the extremely ordinary special effects (I know I have).

But when you consider the pittance Catherine Hardwicke had to work with, it is a great movie! Despite Mellissa Rosenbergs trite screenplay it kept pretty well to the book, and it moved at such a pace that certainly none of my clique found ourselves checking our watches. I’ve seen it 11 times now and I still wish I could pause and rewind certain parts - can’t wait for the DVD to come out.

So I’m ecstatic that Twilight made Yahoo’s #9 - I suspect it could be even higher considering that the box office takings now are even higher.

So dig deeper in your pockets Summit. You know very well you’re going to get your investment back in spades. But if you skimp again, Twilight fans won’t forget that and it could haunt future projects - not just future Twilight saga movies either.

  8. ?? responded:

Ummm…NO OFFENSE Rachel, but they use airbrush in filming and it doesn’t cake. Sorry. You shouldn’t be able to see it…but hey what do I know! I think that people should take the movie for what it is, nothing more nothing less. It was overall a pretty good portrayal of the book, considering the circumstances.

  9. twilightfan14 responded:

Yay! Wish it could have been higher on the list but very happy. I have said before that Twilight will not win any Oscars but considering the budget and the time constraints and the awful weather they all had to endure, it was a great movie. The script could have been better and the effects were not up to par because of the budget, but this movie is a little miracle. A true romance movie that Hollywood has forgotten how to make. That’s why Hollywood couldn’t make it. Just hope Summit doesn’t turn into souless creatures like most of the “big” studios. I tried to go see Twilight tonight and it was SOLD OUT. Wow!

  10. Megan responded:

Great! I’m so glad it is doing well! This is by far the best “chick” flick I have ever seen. I will continue watching it until they take it out of theatres. I can, but I can’t wait until it comes out on DVD! I will SO be at “Wally World” at midnight to purchase my DVD.

  11. Melannie responded:

    To Rachel,
Completely understand your point… But if I am not mistaken… Summit is kind of “short” (budget) causing not to meet your expectation =)

  12. edes responded:

twilight movie’s nice. well, when compared to the book, i’d go for the book. but compressing a 400-page book into a 2-hour film is very hard. so we should give them the credits! good job twilight makers.

  13. Amy responded:

um, I’m not sure if this is correct or not, but if you click on the sourse and flip through the top ten, I think Twilight was actually number 8, but it made less than Quantam of Solace. However, it is listed after Quantam of Solace (#9) as Twilight #8

  14. Megan responded:

I’m a devoted Twilight fan. Spend hours researching every last bit of information I can suck up.

Rachel’s comment really hit me, and not in a good way. They could only do so much (it’s called a budget, dumbass, and America isn’t exactly drowning in cash right now). Sure, we’ll probably have better effects in New Moon because of the director, more cash flow from the last movie, and more experience, but it will NOT be of the people complaining like Rachel.

I love the Twilight Saga and the movie dearly. And I do not like to see people trash all of their hard work. (You don’t think it was good- YOU try!)
