ROBERT PATTINSON MOBBED IN MEXICO

Posted October 23rd, 2008 By: Team Switzerland 28 Comments »

Robert Pattinson landed at the airport in Mexico City where he is scheduled to promote the Twilight movie and was promptly met by a mob of screaming fans(and a sombrero).

Check it out for yourself:

EDIT: The original video has been removed from Youtube, but a separate Mexico City “incident” has been put up. This one isn’t nearly as intense as the first one, but you can get a pretty good idea as to how the first incident turned out by all the people in this video:

Basically, in the initial video, Rob was swarmed by screaming fans trying to get autographs and pretty much refused to let him walk until they’re items were signed. One fan even put a sombrero on top of his head when he was trying to sign someone’s paper.

Okay even though we posted an article about how CeleBuzz says Robert Pattinson is a snob to fans and press, I think he handled this mobbing really well. If someone came at me with a sombrero, I wouldn’t be that nice about it.

Are you guys surprised by all the attention Rob is getting recently? And how do you think he will deal with all this new attention?

I really feel sorry for this guy. He’s getting mobbed everywhere and, even though that’s the price tag for being famous, I still feel sorry for him. I think he handled it really well. At least he didn’t yell or punch anyone like celebrities have done in the past.

  • Vi

I completely agree…they went a little overboard. Just give him a break! we all love him but everyone needs some space now!

  • rebekah_wilson

I think under the circumstances he was just as he should be. He was nice, signed what he could, and was off to what he had to do.

I think the rumor that he is a snob is retarded. You cant judge someone on a one chance event. If people judged me that way…I would have no friends. LOL. We are all human and we all have our good days and bad days, granted he should be aware that every move he makes is critiques, critisized and anylized…but once again, we are all human and sometimes we have grumpy gus days.

I actually feel more sorry for the guy that he has to deal with screaming fans….such as myself.

  • shae

They just mobbed my man!!! WIth how shy and uneasy his in public they are gonna cuase him to have a stroke!

  • nicole

I just watched the whole thing finally. Geez…Hello? Anyone ever heard about personal space? I would have thrown that hat off too. Those people were very rude to treat him that way. I think he handled that a lot better than I would have! Poor guy!

  • Ariana

I agree with all the previous comments,i mean people, come on,give him a break.I wouldn’t judge him at all even if he punched someone or smth LOL!
I mean,he can’t even go to the airport and walk like a normal person.
Uhmmmm,i want to say something, but i don’t know how to say it on english..LOL…
Well,in conclusion, stop doing this to him.Jumping in front of him not allowing him to walk until he signes your autograph is CRAZY…

  • Tom

That was unpleasant, but you know the “mob” was pretty small. Thank goodness!

  • Midori

I think he was very nice with his fans, he wasn’t rude or anything. I don’t think I’ve every seen him rude even if the situation call for it. He’s a sweet guy, obviously nervous with placing that sombrero on his head. I really sympathize with what he has to deal with every time he has to go in pubic to promote Twilight. He’s kind of a shy guy, it must of been nerve racking! He still has to deal with all those fans at the autographing & pix taking function there this afternoon.

OMG!! the POOR MAN!! have these people ever heard of RESPECTING PERSONAL SPACE!!! i feel so bad for him…hes just so shy in public and gets really unconfortable in these kinds of situations…for all those people to be so PUSHY is so not right…and the hat thing… that was way OVER THE LINE !! i mean he handled that really well for all i have to say!! so that stupid article saying hes rude to all of his fans…yeah WHATEVER!! they should look at all the videos on youtube before they print FALSE statements about people!!!

  • Chantel

Wow, their all up in his personal space. Poor Rob, but I think he handled it well. I don’t think any of us would have been angry if he would have shouted “Back off me!” And come on, a sombrero?

  • Hannah

Poor Rob, I wish he didn’t have to go through things like this. He’s very shy and sweet, people shouldn’t take advantage of him. I hope people will leave alone.. but it’s only going to get worse.

  • unbearable

Here’s an interesting question to you crazy fans: What is the point of getting an autograph (or taking a picture or putting a freaking sombrero on your idol) when all the time the guy is hating you for it?!
That just gave me a panic attack. I don’t think Rob had any idea what he was getting himself into when he signed up for this (as in Twilight). Hope he does not crack!

  • Francina

This is just the beginning people,
I feel so bad for him and that sombrero…
ummm how should i say this???? OVER EXAGGERATION.

  • cj

Um, were those guys in black his SECURITY? If so, they should have done a better job. Atleast so he could have had a bit of space to turn around! He did handle that very well though. Oh, and we as fans should have a lot more respect and courtesy.

  • http://// Lena

He was nice to them, he took most of the pictures with fans, he just took the sombrero off.

  • Robin

Poor Rob. I don’t think that the whole snob thing is very true. There probably is a whole lot of stuff that Rob isn’t able to talk about until the Twilight comes out. He was probably told not to answer questions. That’s just my theory. He seems like a very nice guy.

  • kerri

Wow, thats….funny and not. On one hand Im happy for him, he is in the acting buisness, it comes with the territory. On the other hand, I cant imagine how awful it must feel to have a sombraro shoved on your head by an over zealous fan. I think if I was ever lucky enough to meet him Id be too gobsmacked to string a cohesive sentence together let alone shove a hat on his head!

  • Dre

wow that was horrible. That was just sad. I feel sorry for him. All the girls saying please and I love you was just a joke. He handled it calmly but tha was just awful to be smothered in people like that and that sombrero would have pissed me off but it was kinda funny. fans are freakin psycho.

  • chelsey

I absolutely hate when people call him a “snob.” I just think the guy is painfully shy, its obvious. He’s genuinly nice but hates attention.
And I feel sorry for him because this is nothing compared to how its going to be after Twilight.

  • wikki

he even said Sorry to someone!! what snobs does that!
rob is awesome! from what I’ve read around the net..he’s been raised too well to be up himself. But the poor dear..getting mobbed like that. Dont think he was expecting that hey. I’ve seen something like that happend in Thailand when a korean singer went there..over 7000 fans showed up at the arrival hall screaming. BUT! they were expecting fans (though not in that number) so they had extra security guards..but he was still so nice to stop to take pictures and signed autographs. So Rob be Rob and we’ll always love him.

I thought he handled that very well. He just got off a plane – is probably tired and just wants to get out of there and go to his hotel. But still he smiled and tried to sign autographs. He didn’t even yell at the person with the sombrero. Just took it off and gave it back. Very proud of him!

  • Angela

I think some fans, in their zeal to be near someone they admire a lot, forget that actors are PEOPLE too, and therefore should NOT be expected to “perform on cue”, i.e. sign autographs endlessly, pose for pictures with everyone, engage in small talk – all the time. Rob is no exception! To his credit, he looked ultra-gracious on the video, I think as gracious as can be expected, given the fact that security was inadequate, he had just come off a flight, and was probably tired too. It’s exhausting to do publicity for anything. People on the receiving end should just be considerate of the fact that no one can be at their best 24/7. All things considered, I think Rob has been doing a spectacular job! More power to him!

  • Nikki

Talk about invasion of space. I don’t care if he is a celebrity, he still has a right to his own space. Those “fans” have some nerve just plopping a stupid sombrero on his head. That was way over the top and JUST PLAIN RUDE!!!! People need to get a grip and behave like human beings, not rabid dogs.
Rob was extremely patient and too kind. That video alone proves that he is not a snob. After all, he still signed autographs after being mauled. Not many celebrities would do that.

  • Vicky

how come the video isn’t working? I wanna seeeeee really bad!!

  • AlexB

I cant see it either and I really want to! Does anyone know how i can make this think work?!

  • Lisa

so, I think this goes to show just how much he is not a snob. Poor guy…I know there is a price for fame, but this is insane.

  • EsEs

WHOA MAN, i totally agree with all of these comments : Rob needs some space and like im sure that some of these people wouldnt like it if they were mobbed like that ! :O

  • rob girlfriend

oh my god i am in shock with you people.. please is insulting saying the sombrero thing… people that does wear sombreross.. mostly dont have internet, and live very far awary from the city… THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TWILIGHT IS.. SO PLEASE STOP INSULTING MEXICO…. NOBODY WAS WEARING A SOMBREROOOOO….. HAVE SOME CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE PLEASEE.. MEXICO IS NOT LIKE IN THE MOVIEESS
