This week we bring you The New Moon Epilogue, Treaty

TA Book Club – New Moon Epilogue Treaty by Evie

Summary

The Epilogue starts by showing us that everything has gone back to normal for Bella. The Cullens moved back to town and the hospital welcomed Carlisle back with open arms. Edward, Bella and Alice are back in school and Bella is struggling to make up missed work while she was in Italy. Bella is under house arrest aside from work and school and Edward can only visit during certain strict hours. During his visiting hours Edward helps Bella catch up on school and apply to colleges. Bella really misses Jacob, but Edward does not approve and wants her to keep her distance from him. Instead since Bella cannot go to La Push, she continuously tries calling Jacob after Edward leaves her visiting hours and before he comes back for the night, but Jacob never answers.

Bella fumes to Edward about Jacob ignoring her and Edward still feels it’s for the best. He explains that Jacob and Billy don’t hate her, but they know Edward is back in her life. Edward explains it is best that Jacob and he never confront each other and it reminds Bella of Romeo and Juliet, where Paris, the best friend, falls.

Arriving home from work one day with Edward, they find her motorcycle parked right next to Charlie’s cruiser in the driveway and Edward can hear how angry Charlie is in his mind. Bella is horrified and knows that it was Jacob who betrayed her. Edward and Bella go to the forest right by because Edward can hear that Jacob wants to talk to him. Jacob is waiting for them in the forest, acting as spokesperson for his pack. He’s there to remind Edward of the rules of the treaty. When Bella makes Jacob understand that she is already grounded and that’s why she hasn’t come to La Push he feels bad, but says he had to try to keep Edward away from her. Bella lets Jacob know that she will never want to be away from Edward again. Jacob then specifies on key part in the treaty which is that the Cullens may never bite another human; not just kill but bite. So if the Cullens turn Bella into a vampire the wolves will attack the Cullens, and if they do not turn her, the Volturi will come after them. Charlie interrupts the meeting by screaming for Bella and Bella heads back to the house with Edward by her side.

Questions For Thought

What did you think of this chapter as far as likes and dislikes?

Are you surprised Jacob would no longer take Bella’s calls?

Are you surprised no one at the hospital questioned Carlisle coming back?

Do you think Edward is jealous of Jacob or just merely worried about Bella’s safety?

What do you think of Jacob leaving Bella’s motorcycle out for Charlie to find?

Quote

This quote comes from Bella’s train at the end on page 563:

“That was true, Edward was here, with his arms around me. I could face anything as long as that was true. I squared my shoulders and walked forward to meet my fate, with my destiny solidly at my side”

What was your favorite quote from this chapter?

Music

Song for the Epilogue- : Gives You Hell – All American Rejects

What did you think of this song for the Epilogue?

Are there any other songs that you think would fit this chapter well?

Book To Movie

I think the biggest difference between the book and the movie is that Jacob didn’t actually “fursplode” into a wolf when he confronted Edward. Jacob managed to keep his calm in the book. Personally I liked the whole fursplosion in the movie. Also Edward did not propose at the end of the book, that happened earlier, unlike the movie.

Was there anything you would have added to or taken out of the movie from this chapter?

TA Book Club: New Moon Chapter 24 – Vote

Posted May 8th, 2010 By: Evie 1 Comment »

This week we bring you Chapter Twenty-Four, Vote

TA Book Club – New Moon Chapter Twenty-Four Vote by Evie

Summary

Chapter 24 starts with Edward taking Bella over to the Cullens. She rides on his back, but this time she’s doesn’t get sick and she’s not afraid of the speed anymore. Edward declares he will somehow win Bella’s trust back and Bella explains that it’s not him she doesn’t trust, but instead herself. She explains that she feels she has no hold for him and Edward tries to explain that her hold is permanent on him. Bella tells Edward about hearing his voice while doing dangerous things and in the middle of thinking about it she has an epiphany. Bella’s epiphany is that in fact Edward really does love her. Edward confirms that love and Bella realizes Edward is truly afraid for her soul. Edward tells Bella she was better at being apart than he was, he didn’t even try to make an effort for anyone. They arrive at the Cullens and Edward tells Bella he is only humoring her with the whole vote thing.

At the Cullen house everyone is waiting for Edward and Bella. They have been filled in on the whole story, and agree to vote. Everyone except Edward and Rosalie vote for Bella to become a vampire. Rosalie explains she voted the way she did because she didn’t want to be one and wasn’t given a choice. It is finally decided that Carlisle will change Bella after graduation if Edward will not. Bella’s biggest wish is that Edward would be the one to change her. After much back and forth Edward agrees to change Bella on one condition – she needs to marry him first. Bella is stunned and refuses, believing that marriage is what ruined her mom and dad’s relationship.

Later Bella explains her absence with Alice to Charlie, who immediately fully blames Edward. Bella makes Charlie understand that her and Edward are a package deal now and she will move out if he won’t accept them. When Edward is explaining his worry about her soul to Bella, she doesn’t buy it. Bella reminds him that in Volterra Edward believed he was in heaven when she saved him.

Questions For Thought

What did you think of this chapter as far as likes and dislikes?

Are you surprised Bella finally came to her epiphany?

Do you think Bella forgave Edward too fast?

Do you think it was right for Rosalie to vote against Bella becoming a vampire?

What do you think of Bella’s reaction to Edward’s proposal?

Quote

This quote comes from Bella’s train of thought on page 527:

“Option three: Edward loved me. The bond forged between us was not one that could be broken by absence, distance, or time. And no matter how much more special or beautiful or brilliant or perfect than me he might be, he was as irreversibly altered as I was. As I would always belong to him, so would he always be mine.”

What was your favorite quote from this chapter?

Music

Chapter Twenty-Four Song: I Want You To Want Me – Cheap Trick

I know this is a bit snarky for the chapter, but really – it fits!

What did you think of this song for chapter 24?

Are there any other songs that you think would fit this chapter well?

Book To Movie

This part of the movie is one of the only ones I miss from the book. While I loved the humor in the Cullen house with Jasper and Emmett in the movie, I missed the very heavy discussions that Bella and Edward have in this chapter, including Bella’s “epiphany”.

Was there anything you would have added to or taken out of the movie from this chapter?

TA Book Club: New Moon Chapter 23 – The Truth

Posted May 1st, 2010 By: Evie No Comments »

This week we bring you Chapter Twenty-Three, The Truth

TA Book Club – New Moon Chapter Twenty-Three The Truth by Evie

Summary

Chapter 23 starts with Bella waking up in Edward’s arms. She panics and tries to hold onto the feeling of sleeping because she thinks she must be dreaming if Edward is really there. Bella thinks perhaps she has gone mad since she pushed so hard to get her hallucinations. When Bella realizes she really isn’t dreaming, Edward tells her that Charlie has now banned him from coming through the door, but he actually came in through the window (as he used to). Edward is completely sick for leaving Bella to the danger of Laurent and Victoria and Bella tells him that he needs to stop feeling any guilt for her well-being. Edward then tries to make Bella understand that he simply cannot live in a world without her. He explains that he lied to her to make her believe he didn’t love her because he wanted to protect her. Bella still is having trouble accepting that Edward is back for good. Edward tells her he was hunting Victoria, but was not very good at it. When they discuss Jacob, Edward makes it clear he does not approve of Bella’s friendship with a young werewolf. Bella changes the conversation to the Volturi, believing them to be the bigger threat. Edward tells her he’s already planning on how to keep them in the dark. Bella snaps a bit, not sure if Edward’s refusal to change her is because of her soul or because he doesn’t want her around forever. Bella decides she wants to go and put the matter before the Cullen family for a vote.

Questions For Thought

What did you think of this chapter in terms of likes and dislikes?

Are you surprised that Bella thought she was dreaming when she woke up to Edward?

Would you believe that Edward was back for good?

Do you believe Edward did the right thing by lying and leaving to protect Bella from his point of view?

Quote

This quote comes from Edward on page 514.

“Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars – points light and reason. ….And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, eveything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn’t see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything.”

What was your favorite quote from this chapter?

Music

Chapter Twenty-Three Song: Sing For Absolution -Muse

What did you think of this song for chapter 23?

Are there any other songs that you think would fit this chapter well?

Book To Movie

Once again the movie did a pretty spectacular job with following the book in this chapter. I believe Charlie interrupted them in the movie, where they had uninterrupted time in the book, but other than that, it was pretty close!

Was there anything you would have added to or taken out of the movie from this chapter?

Bella is exhausted but doesn’t want to fall asleep, wishing to spend every second she has awake with Edward. Bella learns that Gianna the secretary for the Volturi hopes to one day become part of the Volturi vampires and Bella is disgusted that she would want to become that kind of vampire. Bella sits in Edward’s arms desperate to ask him questions about his leaving and about their future together but it too terrified of the possible answers to actually voice them. Alec finally appears to tell the trio they may go and asks that they don’t linger in Volterra. As Edward, Bella and Alice leave, Alice disappears to steal another car for their ride to the airport. Bella still doesn’t want to waste a minute of her time with Edward sleeping so she manages to stay awake on the long flight to Atlanta and then again on the their connecting flight to Sea-Tac. TA BOOK CLUB: NEW MOON CHAPTER 21- VERDICT

The TA Book Club is back! Every Saturday we’re going to bring you a chapter or two of New Moon complete with a brief summary, a quote, some thought-provoking questions, a song and even a little book and movie comparison. So tell your Twilight friends and come re-read New Moon with TA!

This week we bring you Chapter Twenty-One, Verdict

TA Book Club – New Moon Chapter Twenty-One Verdict by Evie

Chapter 21 opens with Edward, Bella and Alice being led into the reception area where they meet Gianna the secretary. Aro greets the trio and introduces his brothers, Marcus and Caius. Aro expresses admiration for the non-human diet that Carlisle and his family follow, and he’s also more than impressed by Edward’s self-control around Bella. Aro is fascinated by Bella, he can’t believe Edward can’t read her thoughts and is shocked when he cannot either. Aro has Jane try her skill on Bella but Edward throws himself to block Bella and takes the full force of Jane’s stare, making him writhe on the floor with pain. When Jane goes back to Bella, she too has no luck. Aro is very impressed and asks Alice, Edward and Bella to join the Volturi guard. When all three refuse Aro says that Bella knows too much (you know, like the whole fact that vampires exist) and Caius reminds everyone that her life is forfeit. Aro lets them know that if Bella were to be changed into a vampire they could all leave, but he’s seen that Edward doesn’t plan to do that. At that point Alice steps forward to show Aro that in the future Bella will be turned into a vampire, and Aro allows them to leave. As Edward, Bella and Alice leave they witness a group of tourists being brought in by Heidi and soon after hear them become dinner for the Volturi
