TA Book Club: New Moon Epilogue – Treaty

Summary
The Epilogue starts by showing us that everything has gone back to normal for Bella. The Cullens moved back to town and the hospital welcomed Carlisle back with open arms. Edward, Bella and Alice are back in school and Bella is struggling to make up missed work while she was in Italy. Bella is under house arrest aside from work and school and Edward can only visit during certain strict hours. During his visiting hours Edward helps Bella catch up on school and apply to colleges. Bella really misses Jacob, but Edward does not approve and wants her to keep her distance from him. Instead since Bella cannot go to La Push, she continuously tries calling Jacob after Edward leaves her visiting hours and before he comes back for the night, but Jacob never answers.
Bella fumes to Edward about Jacob ignoring her and Edward still feels it’s for the best. He explains that Jacob and Billy don’t hate her, but they know Edward is back in her life. Edward explains it is best that Jacob and he never confront each other and it reminds Bella of Romeo and Juliet, where Paris, the best friend, falls.
Arriving home from work one day with Edward, they find her motorcycle parked right next to Charlie’s cruiser in the driveway and Edward can hear how angry Charlie is in his mind. Bella is horrified and knows that it was Jacob who betrayed her. Edward and Bella go to the forest right by because Edward can hear that Jacob wants to talk to him. Jacob is waiting for them in the forest, acting as spokesperson for his pack. He’s there to remind Edward of the rules of the treaty. When Bella makes Jacob understand that she is already grounded and that’s why she hasn’t come to La Push he feels bad, but says he had to try to keep Edward away from her. Bella lets Jacob know that she will never want to be away from Edward again. Jacob then specifies on key part in the treaty which is that the Cullens may never bite another human; not just kill but bite. So if the Cullens turn Bella into a vampire the wolves will attack the Cullens, and if they do not turn her, the Volturi will come after them. Charlie interrupts the meeting by screaming for Bella and Bella heads back to the house with Edward by her side.

Quote
This quote comes from Bella’s train at the end on page 563:
“That was true, Edward was here, with his arms around me. I could face anything as long as that was true. I squared my shoulders and walked forward to meet my fate, with my destiny solidly at my side”
What was your favorite quote from this chapter?
Music
Song for the Epilogue- : Gives You Hell – All American Rejects

Book To Movie
I think the biggest difference between the book and the movie is that Jacob didn’t actually “fursplode” into a wolf when he confronted Edward. Jacob managed to keep his calm in the book. Personally I liked the whole fursplosion in the movie. Also Edward did not propose at the end of the book, that happened earlier, unlike the movie.
Was there anything you would have added to or taken out of the movie from this chapter?
