STEPHENIE MEYER.COM UPDATE: ‘THE HOST’ MOVIE

Late last night we told you about how it was just announced that Stephenie Meyer’s book The Host would be turned into a film (read the article here). Well, I’m sure nobody is as excited as Stephenie herself, and she took to her official website to share her excitement:

 
I’m so excited to be working with Nick Weschler, and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz to bring The Host to a visual format. They’ve all been a dream to work with, so lovely and collaborative, and I feel like we’re in a really good place to make a great movie together. And then to have Andrew Niccol writing and directing? Truly awesome. If you’ve never seen Gattaca, go watch it now. One of my favorite movies of all time. It’s such a great example of character driven science fiction, which is ideal for The Host, no? I’m having an absolute blast imagining different dream casts, which I would post if people didn’t take my silly blogs so seriously these days. I’m looking forward to seeing the cast lists you come up with in the fansite forums, and if any of them match mine.

So, very exciting. Yay Host!

I believe in an interview long, long ago, Stephenie had mentioned something about Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as main characters in the film, but I’m sure her opinions have changed since then. So who would you like to see play the characters in The Host?

    For Melanie, maybe Sophia Bush. In the book Mel is supposed to be like 25 for the main part, and close to 18 in flashbacks. She could pull it off.
    For Wanderer/Wanda I´m not sure. She´s only supposed to be 16 or 17 for most of the book.

      wont they have the same voice? because Wanda is in Mel’s body.. ohh im so confuseddd

        No, I kinda had a feeling reading the book that they were “talking” to each other in Mel´s head using different voices, but when Mel/Wanda spoke to others they had the same voice.

    it would be better if she would pick people who were not as famous as the people you all are talking about because i have read the book countless times and cant picture any of those people playing the characters.

        when she is in melanie she looks like her but at the end when shes put into Petals open to the moon then she is different

      Love all your choices! Except Amanda Seyfried as Wanda. I pictured her as smaller, softer, and…well…prettier. Also, younger, but that could be remedied. But I’m not a Seyfried fan, so I’m probably biased. She’s not believable in any of the roles I’ve seen her in.

      I vote for AnnaSophia Robb for Wanda/Pet :)

      Zooey Deschanel…LOVE her! I wouldn’t mind if she were in every movie ever made.

    i am just now reading this book and found out they are making a movie! great news, but i have to say i can not get donald sutherland out of my head when reading and picturing jeb. sam elliot and robert redford would be great though. cant wait to see who they cast for everyone..

    Jared HAS to be Jensen Ackles! It’s saying something when so many people independently are thinking the same, to have him for the part. When reading the book, I imagined Jared as Jensen, as my fiance is a Supernatural fan.

    The only two characters that I can’t see as portrayed by any other actors are Jared played by Jensen Ackles and Kyle played by Kellan Lutz….I just see those two anytime I picture either character

    I definately would NOT have picked Jessica Alba, ugh. Pretty face, unimpressive acting. Especially when she looks nothing like the actor playing her little brother. I had read that Saoirse Ronan (“Hanna,” “The Lovely Bones”) was going to play lead which had me quite excited. I’m sorely disappointed.

      That comment was in reaction to a trailer I watched but I’m now realizing said trailer is most likely fanmade, thank goodness!!!
