Ask Alice: Back to School - Forks Style

Posted August 26th, 2010 By: Evie 1 Comment »

Ever had a thing for our darling humans’ wardrobe? Well now is your chance to be able to dress just like them!

The Fall season is upon us and that means it’s finally time for back to school! Research papers, books, and homework certainly aren’t things to write home about …but guess what is? New “Back to School” clothes! And what better way to draw inspiration for your new wardrobe then from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse? Let’s turn to the not so obvious members of Forks High for some styling tips: The Humans.

Since the start of cold winds is sure to be making our way, a top layer is crucial. Trench coats, and motorcycle bombers are great essentials or you can even show your school spirit by throwing on your school’s letterman jacket. These toppers are strictly that: Toppers! So make sure to put just a smidget of thought into what’s going on underneath. Plaid shirts are still as ever popular with the fellas ever since the trend began, so it’s still a great go-to. For the ladies: Long sleeved henleys are our new best friends. Any bottoms can go with these pieces so go ahead and reach for your favorite pair jeans or even try layering with a skirt and leggings. Slip on those comfy Converse or some boots and you’ll be set for the school year. Go Spartans!

Ask Alice: Glam Gams: Denim Edition

Posted August 12th, 2010 By: Evie 1 Comment »

Time to put the spotlight back on those gams with the new leggings now being showcased in denim!

Trends that become uber popular never fail to actually stay as trends, they actually progress to become wardrobe staples. A prime example: Gladiator Sandals. The sheathed ankle look has spread to wedges, platforms, booties and even to pumps! Another look that has progressed to a staple are leggings. Cotton made its comeback years ago then the leather (AKA Liquid Leggings) followed, and now your favorite pant is becoming a legging: JEANS!

Coming from the popularity of the skinny jeans (Yet another trend) , designers decided to get them down to an even more tapered leg and put plenty of more stretch in them. The end result: Jeggings! These will look so good with your favorite pumps or a sassy platform bootie. Be unique and instead of wearing them with a tunic-type blouse opt for a buttoned down boyfriend shirt tucked inside. Think jeggings aren’t a good look for you? You’re not alone! A good alternative are completely straight cut jeans. Like boot cut this is also a universally flattering pant and gives the appearance of a skinny jean without the tight denim all over. See? You too can have glam gams!

Ask Alice: Pure Sole

Posted August 5th, 2010 By: Evie 2 Comments »

Always had a thing for Bella’s kicks? Good news—they’re will within your reach!

There’s just something about Miss. Swan’s wardrobe that every girl can relate to. From the everyday plaid shirts and the simple jackets, the look is completely versatile. It’s no wonder every girl wants to dress like her! The comfy style doesn’t end at just jeans and henleys, her choice of footwear is also one to covet. Bella can be spotted the majority of the time in simple lace-ups such as Keds.

Keds are just as versatile as all of Bella’s essential wardrobe staples. As seasons come and go the choices in fabric, color, and design for the shoe are endless! Never been a big fan of laces? Now Keds are available sans them and there are also slip-ons that are available in just as many styles like the lace-ups. The simple shoe could just as easily be dressed up with new jersey fabric that will look great with leggings and a dress for Fall or show some character with metallic hues.

Ask Alice: Baby Got Racerback!

Posted July 30th, 2010 By: Evie No Comments »

Need a change from your day-to-day tank top? Race ‘em back!

Tops for Summer are constantly being put to the drawing board for re-design. Whether it’s for different cuts or colors, new styles always emerge from that board. One thing that is consistent amongst all these tops is comfort. This is the season when buyers want the least complicated of all garments because they just want to head out that door to the nearest swimming pool. And, in my opinion, nothing is as easy or low maintenance like the Racerback.

The Racerback has been fully renovated for these scorching temperatures and to fit anyone’s easy breezy style. Sheer chiffons and any and all light-weight fabrics are being incorporated as well as funky patterns to keep up with the popular trend. The actual “T” of the Racerback is also getting a makeover with innovative crochet, floral appliqués, and braiding. These go great with leggings, pants and jeans but are also the perfect complement to your “short story” (Click here for our shorts feature).

Ask Alice: A Short Story

Posted July 15th, 2010 By: Evie No Comments »

The preferred pant of the season for all shapes and sizes.

We might have reached the midpoint of Summer but that doesn’t mean the scorching temperatures have taken a break. Now is when all those Summer- wear staples are in demand and that means it’s time to give your day-to-day jeans and trousers a rest and whip out the shorts. There are many who love shorts and whole lot more than that that think anything a bit above the knee is considered dangerous waters territory. Everyone should be able to enjoy the fashion of shorts. It just takes an extra moment to consider all the dos and don’ts when it comes to wearing the iconic pant.

One rule of thumb that I recommend everyone should follow when shopping for this piece is to make sure they have just a tad of slack to them. The painted-on look flatters no one (And it gives off the wrong image if they’re a bit too short), so make sure that you’re able to zip or button them up with no sweat. If it turns out you’re going to need Crisco to get yourself into them then do yourself a favor and just go up a size (No one looks at the tag—buy what fits!). On to the next short rule: At least 2 ½ inches in length below crotch. Anything shorter than that I think people should just be prosecuted. No one needs to see anyone’s “business” out there. A popular trend to follow is definitely the pleats! Think trouser/city short. These are just so chic- no matter what fabric it’s made in- and they’re definitely a little more giving and looser than any other cut. You also can’t go wrong when it’s cuffed. It gives instant posh to any look. “The” top to wear this season with any and all shorts is the loose racer backs and halters. Make sure they don’t go past the hip (I.E.: No tunics), you want to be able to actually see the shorts and those glam gams. So take advantage of all those Summer sales while they’re still on and begin your own “short” story.
