If you’ll recall, we told you back in the beginning of July that Muse’s song ‘Survival’ had been chosen as the official song of the 2012 London Olympics. If you’re like me, you waited patiently through the opening ceremony waiting for a glimpse of Muse - to no avail. But fear not! Muse have been confirmed to be playing at the closing ceremony for this year’s Olympics and have even treated us to a picture of their warm-up. Check out more below:

“Warming up…”

The band, who penned the official track for the Olympics, titled ‘Survival’, reveal in this week’s issue of NME, which is on newsstands from today, or available digitally now, that the track only came about after talks about them playing the closing ceremony went well.

“I’m happy with the song. It’s a proper Muse song,” drummer Dom Howard told NME. “It’s not something we just did for the Olympics. They sowed a seed by asking us to do some music but then five months went by. We showed them a few songs when they asked us about [playing the] closing ceremony and they loved it. It represented the enormous competition of what the Olympics is”.

The line-up for the closing ceremony, which will celebrate 50 years of British music, is being kept a closely guarded secret, with only Muse, Ed Sheeran, and George Michael confirming that they will be performing. The Who, Take That, and the Spice Girls are all rumoured to be appear at the event. Yesterday, rumours also started to circulate that Kate Bush could perform, after a remix version of ‘Running Up That Hill’ was posted on Amazon, and subsequently removed.

The band has also played a big part in the film adaptations, having a song on the soundtracks for Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. Now in some very exciting news, the band’s song ‘Survival’ has been selected by the London Olympic Committee to be the official song for the 2012 London Olympics. Check out the song and then read more below:

The song will be played throughout the Games including when athletes enter the stadium, in the lead up to the medal ceremony and also as the theme for all international TV coverage. The worldwide radio exclusive will be tonight on BBC Radio 1 around 19:30 and will be available to buy on iTunes and in the muse.mu store immediately afterwards.
