Have the ‘Twilight Saga’ Soundtracks Evolved into Pop with ‘Breaking Dawn - Part 1′?

Posted October 22nd, 2011 By: Evie 8 Comments »

There’s no denying that The Twilight Saga has strong roots in music. Stephenie Meyer was never shy about proclaiming how much music influenced her writing, even giving each book in the Twilight series it’s own playlist. The soundtracks for the movies have thus become a huge part of the Twilight world, with great anticipation for each tracklist before each movie. However, it’s definitely been noted that a shift has taken place, where Stephenie’s alternative influence was clearly felt in the beginning, so far it’s all but unrecognizable at this point with Breaking Dawn - Part 1. So has The Twilight Saga, gone Pop with Breaking Dawn - Part 1? Read more below:

Pop chart mainstay Mars’ “It Will Rain” was given the plum opportunity of being selected the first single off the Breaking Dawn soundtrack. The Grammy winner’s angsty love song anchors tracks by lesser-known (by the mainstream, at least) artists such as Mia Mammoth, Sleeping At Last and The Features. (And to think, the Edward/Bella/Jacob triangle could have possibly been even more bright if only Sia’s contribution hadn’t been axed.)

Reflecting back on the very first Twilight soundtrack, from 2008, it was peppered with dark and gloomy jams by Muse, of course, as well as artists like MUTEMATH, Paramore, Black Ghosts and Linkin Park.

But by last year’s Eclipse, the third film in the Twilight saga, the music landscape in general had become decidedly more pop-leaning since ‘08, and Cee Lo Green and Florence + The Machine (not to mention Sia) crept onto the tie-in soundtrack.

I have to agree so far. There’s not much of Stephenie’s alternative influence showing in Breaking Dawn - Part 1. I didn’t even realize that there was more of a Pop influence in Eclipse, but it’s definitely showing up in Breaking Dawn - Part 1.

What do you think? Has The Twilight Saga gone Pop with Breaking Dawn - Part 1? Do you like the new Pop sound?

The Best Scenes from ‘The Twilight Saga’ Movies Thus Far

Posted October 9th, 2011 By: Evie 5 Comments »

Today Movies over at MSNBC is listing their top moment from each of the first three movies in The Twilight Saga. That means we get a best moment from Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. Here we have their clips from Twilight and New Moon. Does vampire baseball sound familiar? Enjoy it all below:

‘Twilight’

The prom, maybe? Are you kidding? VAMPIRE BASEBALL! They even have old-fashioned uniforms and striped socks, and they can play only in thunderstorms because the thunder hides the incredibly loud noise generated when they hit the ball at approximately eight jillion miles per hour. And once the Cullens suit up to toss the ol’ horsehide around, whoops, three uninvited vamps show up and start gunning for Bella. But in the meantime, VAMPIRE BASEBALL!

‘New Moon’
Oh, the Volturi. Forget Bella and Edward and Jacob. I would read an entire series of books just about them. Anyway, Edward thinks Bella is dead so he goes to Volterra, Italy, to reveal himself as a vampire in public, knowing the regal Volturi vamps will have to kill him then. So in the middle of an Italian square full of red-robed extras, he de-shirts, and Bella races across the square just in the nick of time to save him. Team Volturi!

Seriously, the first thing anyone thinks of when they think of The Twilight Saga movies… VAMPIRE BASEBALL! (Thank you Muse!)

Do you agree with their three top scenes from Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse? What do you think the top scenes will be from Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and Breaking Dawn - Part 2?

Track List for ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1′ to be Revealed on Monday September 26th

Posted September 22nd, 2011 By: Evie 4 Comments »

HitFix is reporting that the entire track listing for the The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 will be revealed this coming Monday, September 26th. Reportedly the official Twilight Saga Facebook page and twitter pages will do the reveal. Now this news is completely unconfirmed at this point, but with the Bruno Mars song being released in full on Tuesday, it definitely sounds like a possibility. Stay tuned to TA for updates!

The entire tracklist for the “Breaking Dawn” set will become available on the “Twilight Saga” Facebook page and Twitter on Monday (Sept. 26).

Mars made the announcement on his own website, with the single artwork, posted below.

Just this week, rumors began to swirl that the film’s co-star Robert Pattinson would be contributing music to the soundtrack. As we previously surmised, Muse may contribute again, considering the British band contributed tracks to all of the other sets.

And if Summit/Chop Shop/Atlantic want to keep a trend going, every song on “Breaking Dawn - Part 1″ will be an exclusive contribution, meaning they’re songs or remixes unavailable anywhere else.

All I can say is Muse had better be on there!

Now that the release of the soundtrack track list is imminent, who are you hoping for?

(Thanks Noor! :) )

Muse to Begin Recording Sixth Album in September

Posted August 10th, 2011 By: Evie 2 Comments »

In a new interview, bassist Chris Wolstenholme of Muse told BBC Radio 1 that the band will begin recording their sixth album this September. Chris also went on to say that Muse has no intention of scaling back on their touring, and still love to play live. Read it all after the jump:

Muse will enter the studio to begin recording the follow-up to their 2009 fifth album ‘The Resistance’ in September. Bass player Chris Wolstenholme said that the trio will be heading straight in to the studio after they headline Reading And Leeds Festivals at the end of August.

Speaking on BBC Radio 1, the bassist said of the band’s recording plans: “September and October, that’s when we’re going to get into the studio to start writing the new album.” Wolstenholme also indicated that the band have no intention of scaling back on their live commitments in the future, despite having had a fairly quiet 2011 in terms of live dates.

He said:

We’re always going to be the kind of band that want to get out and play live. As the years go on there’s that temptation to cut the touring down less and less but we still love playing live. I can’t ever imagine we’ll be the kind of band that cut the touring down significantly.

Trailers for ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ and ‘Bad Teacher’ Mention ‘Twilight’

Posted June 2nd, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

There are two new trailers on the web and TV that both have little Twilight mentions in them! The first one, Crazy, Stupid, Love, has actress Julianne Moore telling her estranged husband that she went to see the latest Twilight movie alone, and it was bad! In addition you might recognize the song ‘Starlight’ by Muse in the background. The second one is Bad Teacher and at the very end we see the gym teacher throwing a ball to a kid and calling him “Twilight” (the kid does look like a mini-Edward Cullen). Check out the trailers for Crazy, Stupid, Love and Bad Teacher below:

Crazy, Stupid, Love

Bad Teacher

(Thanks Noor!)

Aww, the first mention, while still kind of a funny mention was rather mean. The second one I liked much better, and honestly that kid was pretty Edward Cullen looking!

Had you seen these trailers yet? Did you pick up the Twilight mentions right away?

Muse Win 2011 Ivor Novello Award and Plan for a New Album

Posted May 19th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

Muse have won another award, this time, winning at the 56th Ivor Novello Awards. Muse picked up a big win at the Awards for International Achievement. According to the organizers, the Ivor Novello Awards are designed to “celebrate honour and reward excellence in British music writing.” In addition, bassist Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard chat about working on their new album and what we might expect. Read more below:

Drummer Dominic Howard and bassist Chris Wolstenholme spoke about the plan to NME at this afternoon’s (May 19) Ivor Novello Awards ceremony in London, where they won the International Achievement award.

After revealing that they were planning to put out the follow-up to 2009’s ‘The Resistance’ in 2012 Howard said that the album could mark a shift in style for the band. “Matt [Bellamy, frontman] showed me a few chords recently,” he said. “Who knows, it might be softer rock, but then it’s up to me and Chris to make it heavy again. A heavy rock lullaby! But I’m sure it will move forward in some way.”

Wolstenholme explained that the band had been jamming on the road ahead of sessions later this year. He added: “We’ve got Reading Festival [plus the Leeds Festival, with them set to headline both] in August and maybe a few weeks off after that. So September, October time we’ll get into the studio and start writing and working on the songs.”

Howard concluded: “It takes as long as it takes really, because you have to love it before you can just chuck it out there and into the real world. But definitely next year.”
