MyAnna Buring Describes New Role on the BBC Show, ‘White Heat’

Posted March 7th, 2012 By: Evie 3 Comments »

MyAnna Buring, who plays the devastatingly beautiful vampire Tanya of the Denali Coven in Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and Part 2, is currently starring in an exciting drama on the BBC. MyAnna plays the character Lily in White Heat, and here gives us some insight into the show, her character, and the awful costumes she wears. Read it all below:

Tell us about your character Lily.

“Lily’s the kind of part that is just a bit of a dream for any actor… I read it and I just adored her, I loved her. She’s incredibly feisty but she’s also vulnerable, she’s strong, but she’s sensitive, she’s an art student.

“She comes from a place up north where her parents expect her to leave school early and start a job and be happy with that, but Lily’s the kind of character who is born into that world and always dreams of there being something more than that and going to art school in London represents what that more is for her.

“I think when we first meet her she’s an incredibly excited and idealistic and vivacious person, but I keep saying as well that she’s a grafter. Every time life throws a hurdle in front of her, she finds a way of getting over it or moving around it. I think she’s very persistent.”

How would you persuade people to tune in?

“I think this is drama at its most exciting. I think these are also stories that we tell so well in the UK, these stories where we start with characters in one time and then we follow them through, and at the same time we don’t only get to relate to and get to know characters, but we also get to essentially go through a bit of a history lesson or a history reminder.

“I love watching things that I don’t only enjoy for entertainment but that I kind of learn things from or am reminded of things from, so I think that’s a great reason to tune in.”

‘Breaking Dawn - Part 1′ Included on BBC’s 2011 Film Review

Posted January 1st, 2012 By: Evie 1 Comment »

Breaking Dawn - Part 1 has made the cut on the BBC’s 2011 Film Review. It’s in good company with other films like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The King’s Speech. Check out the video below:

Breaking Dawn - Part 1 really was one of the biggest movies this year. It’s definitely one of the first that springs to my mind for 2011 - just like Harry Potter does. I’m curious as to how big Part 2 will be in 2012. On one hand it’s the conclusion to the entire Twilight Saga, so it should absolutely huge, but on the other side, some of what a lot of people love the best about the Breaking Dawn book - the wedding and the honeymoon - happen in Part 1. I for one can’t wait to see more of vampire Bella and especially little Nessie!

Which do you think was the biggest movie of 2011? Which Breaking Dawn movie do you think will be the biggest?

Jon Hamm Says He Could Play a Grandfather in ‘Twilight’

Posted June 17th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

The BBC has a short little interview with actor Jon Hamm, probably best known these days for his role as Don Draper on Mad Men. The interview is mostly regarding Jon’s view on reasons the next season of Mad Men is being delayed. What does this have to do with Twilight? Well, Jon goes on to talk about how lucky he feels to be working in the industry at his age, comparing his age to what his role would be if he was in Twilight. Read more below:

Hamm is a relative latecomer to big time Hollywood success and admitted that he didn’t take it for granted.

“I’m a million in Hollywood years,” he said.

“I’m 40, which is ridiculously old in Hollywood. I mean, come on, I’m not in Twilight. I could play their grandfather or something.

“It’s crazy that this has happened. I’m a very, very lucky human being.”

Read the full story at the BBC here.

While I think Jon is perhaps being a touch harsh on himself, it’s still a pretty funny view of the business!

What did you think of Jon’s comment regarding the only part he could play in Twilight?

‘The Passion’ a Huge Success for Michael Sheen

Posted April 24th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

After 72 hours of going strong, The Passion, starring Michael Sheen was a huge success. Michael Sheen may have just changed the world’s perception of Port Talbot forever. Check out more below:

Watching an award-winning actor of Sheen’s calibre perform on home territory was certainly something special, but he was careful to ensure that everyone else shone too. And watching the young performers taking their turns in the spotlight after months of rehearsal brought a lump to your throat.

Despite his impressive CV, which includes major films like The Queen, Twilight and Frost/Nixon, Sheen told the Western Mail that The Passion was “the most meaningful” project he had been involved in.

One onlooker from Port Talbot summed up the occasion with one simple sentence, saying: “If my father were alive today, he would be so proud.”

Indeed, watching the drama unfold made us feel privileged to be part of such a momentous occasion.

And proud to be Welsh.
